Best of several Cloud Security books
It's rare that I read a technical book straight through; I usually read key chapters and save the rest for later reference. But Winkler's book, written by an accomplished and highly experienced security professional, was worth a complete read, cover to cover. Of the recently published cloud security books, such as...Cloud Security and Privacy: An Enterprise Perspective on Risks and Compliance, by Tim Mather, Subra Kumaraswamy, and Shahed Latif; O'Reilly Media Inc, 2009;Cloud Computing: Implementation, Management, and Security, by John Rittenhouse and James Ransome; CRC Press 2010;Cloud Security: A Comprehensive Guide to Secure Cloud Computing, by Ronald Krutz and Russell Vines; Wiley Publishing Inc, 2010;...Securing the Cloud is the most useful and informative about all aspects of cloud security. Clearly, through his experience, the author has thought through many practical issues of securing large, virtualized IT installations. His Chapter 6 on Best Practices and Chapter 9 with its valuable checklists are worth the price of the book. If you are among the many new cloud computing professionals, Securing the Cloud is an essential reference for your work.

Thorough and well written
I liked this book because it is an excellent resource on cloud computing and security and it is very well written. It offers a clearheaded treatment of the risks and benefits of using the cloud IT model, it covers the differences between cloud computing and other IT models and it does a very good job of organizing and presenting enough technical, "best practices" and cloud engineering material to build a working background to cloud computing. One thing this book does very well is how it organizes and presents material to give the reader a background in understanding what would otherwise be complex concepts and tools for a security evaluation of a cloud, or how to design a secure cloud. It is a little dry, but it is well written and and a fast read.

A Little Cloudy Unless You Are a Techy
I wanted to find out about CLOUD and this certainly is a book that is complete and does the job. It gave a good introduction to what Cloud computing is and explained the security you get with it. It is, however, very technical and I bit off more than I could chew...or interpret. I liked the parts I understood but think this is a book for tech people more experienced than I am. The author did a good job in trying to make the explanations clear for all and some were but others just had my "head in the clouds".There are parts on just about everything one would want to know about Cloud from what I could tell and am sure the parts on data backup and recovering losses would be very helpful to those in the know. If you are a technical person and into computers, I am sure this would be a valuable book to you. For me, it just showed me how much I don't know about computer technology! The checklists that are included were useful, especially the parts I understood. Guess I should be looking for one of those "Dummies" books on Cloud before I try to tackle this but for those ready for it, enjoy!

A good book for a quick start
This book helped me to get a quick orientation in the new area. It combines theoretical considerations with practical recommendations. It may be too simple for established professionals in the area but is excellent for someone who wants to get started. On the weaker side - the figures in the Kindle edition that I have are sometimes too small and incomprehensible.

Excellent text used in Grad course
Addressed areas relevant to understanding cloud and security. Course combined this text with NIST 800-series publications, and used AWS for practical exercises - excellent combination.

Great book on cloud security!
Used this for a "Securing the Cloud" course. Nicely and understandably written, even though I am not a tech-heavy programmer type.

Used for Class
The use of the Kindle app and in some occasions software was seamless as I bounced from the PC, ...to my Mac...to My iPad to study material for a class I was taking.
