I am a First Dan Black belt but because of my absence due to years of traveling for work and living in different places, I am refamiliarizing myself with all the great knowledge I was trained in over 15 years. Great beginners book For the basics about the traditional karate form. A quick read without a lot of wasted words. Particularly helpful was the chapter of terms

Not good. No good photos. Tiny drawings. More history than anything. Just tells you what you need to know to pass but doesn't show you hardly anything. Not worth the money.

This book was extremely vague. It was good for someone who was thinking about studying Shotokan but not someone trying to use it to help them improve and understand the move shown in this type of karate.
