Amazon Basics Cat Scratching Post for Indoor Cats & Kittens, Medium (31.5"H), Cat Furniture with Dangling Ball Toy, Grey

This an excellent value for cats who like to scratch--obviously most do. We have several indoor cats and have several larger cat scratchers which they do like. This smaller and less expensive unit is great for kittens--the original reason we bought it--but also smaller cats. They last a long time but that of course depends upon the usage but it is a quality item and easy to put together plus at a great price.

Tall, sturdy and stable is how I would describe this scratching post. I have two male kittens and they have thrown all their strength into trying to knock it over, but they can't. I'm going to order a second one.

I had tried several cat scratchers including the corrugated cardboard variety, a half log that I placed on the floor, and some boards screwed to the wall but my cat ignored everything except my oak teacher's desk, which I got on salvage from the local school system and refinished when I was 14, which I was not overly fond of. The scratching, not the desk. Anyway, I read an article that said cats tend to be either horizontal or vertical scratchers (who knew?) and it occurred to my that mine might be the latter so I bought this. The design permits folding into a compact form for shipping so don't freak out when a small box arrives. It assembles easily and is quite sturdy. It is about as attractive as an item of this kind can be. My cat ignored it at first but I encouraged her by using it myself when she scratched (it is surprisingly soothing) and eventually she caught on. Now she has quite taken to it and it is her go-to scratcher. She is a fairly large cat and the height allows her to extend in a way that seems to please her. The toy hanging on the top has so far not interested her. I suspect if it were suspended away from the post it would be an improvement. However, overall it is quite a nice item and I recommend it.

The only caveat is the base. It could be a little larger; the cats like to “stand up” when they groom their claws.

Got this to try and get my cat to stop scratching the carpet. It worked great. The height is perfect its not unstable and the bottom felt is soft my cat even likes laying on the base. It was very easy to assemble took maybe 5 minutes to put together.

My cats actually use this and it is tall enough that they can stretch and stand up against it, which is the main appeal for them in destroying the couch. So I think this has reduced the amount of couch scratching. Worthwhile!

This cat post is a great bargain. Its inexpensive, easy to assemble and my cat literally tore the first one up! She shredded the sisal covering. That's just what you want for your cat. I bought a replacement and one for a family member who rescued a new kitty.

This took only a few minutes to put together and seems pretty sturdy. Even though my furbabies luxurious condo with many scratching options is right next to the couch, they love to scratch my couch and stretch on it. I tried the tape but I have two cats and one of them knows how to pull the tape off so it doesn't work with her. I also have two dogs and one is a fluff ball so his hair kept getting caught on the tape and making the stickyness ineffective. When I pulled the tape off to remove it, some of the threads also came off of my couch so tape or sticky deterrents are not a good solution. I ended up having to cover it til I could figure out another solution and used a toweI in the meantime. I decided to purchase this scratching post because I have a similar one in my room that they love to use and I've had it for a year since they were kittens. I initially put some catnip to attract the furbabies on this new one because they were a little uncertain at first. I left the house for the day and when I came back they went straight to it to scratch out of excitement from my return so it seems to be working. It's too soon to tell if they are still using the couch and I pray this is the solution to help avoid their attraction to it. So far I have excellent ratings because it came very quickly after purchasing, it was easy peasy to assemble, it's a great size, the color and style looks great in the room with my other furniture, and the cats seem to enjoy it very much!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I've had this scratching post for a week now with my Russian Blue, and I'm impressed with the overall quality, especially considering the Amazon Basics price point. Assembly & Setup: Incredibly straightforward - took maybe 10 minutes. Everything needed was included, and while they provide instructions, the design is so intuitive you barely need them. No missing screws or confusing diagrams here. Build Quality: Much sturdier than I expected. The base has good weight to it and doesn't wobble or tip when my cat really goes at it. The sisal rope wrapping appears well-secured and shows no signs of loosening after a week of daily use. The materials feel appropriately soft where they need to be - comfortable for paws but durable enough for serious scratching. Maintenance: Too early to comment on long-term cleaning needs after just a week, but the materials appear straightforward to maintain. The sisal surface doesn't seem to trap debris, and any loose fur brushes off easily. Cat Approval: My Russian Blue took to it immediately - no coaxing needed. The height (80cm) is perfect for a full stretch, which seems to be exactly what she was looking for. The dangling toy was a nice bonus that keeps her engaged. Value: For an Amazon Basics product, this punches above its weight class. I've seen similar posts at pet stores for significantly more money that don't feel as solid. Overall: If you need a reliable, well-built scratching post without the premium price tag, this delivers. One week in and both cat and owner are happy with the purchase.

Excellent and very stable

My dear Emma loves this post. She uses it frequently every day. Emma said nothing is better than having a good scratch after waking up from a nap. Plus she has not scratched the furniture or carpet since we got it. It is a nice height...allows her to stretch to scratch. Pleased that it is quite sturdy in structure, and only took a few minutes to put together. Emma is happy. I am happy. My furniture is happy.
