MY absolutely favorite rice
This is the most wonderful Basmati rice in the world !!! The flavor is highly aromatic to the point that my whole house smells like the rice. The grains are super long and very defined despite being fluffy. This is a premium rice that deserves a place in your pantry if you love Indian cuisine at home. I love it so much I eat it plain. I used to cook Basmati rice the way that my dear Indian friend Uma taught me. Rinsing the rise, soaking it for 20 minutes, frying it a bit in ghee, and then putting it in the boiling water and covering it. Then let thing the rise rest for 10 minutes after the cooking time was over. Now I have an inexpensive rice cooker that is one of my best ever purchases.With the rice cooker I rinse the rice very, very well, then I soak it it for 25 minutes, rinse the soaked rice in cold water and place in rice cooker with 1 tsp salt. The ration of rice to water is 1 to 1.5, that means 1 cup rice soaked and rinsed, to 1.5 cups of water, 2 cups rice to 3 cups water., and so on. Don’t add any oil or butter. Cover rice cooker and let it run its cycle. Once it’s done, let sit covered for about 5-10 minutes. Uncover and fluff with a fork and serve. Store in fridge and warm in microwave, adding about 2 tablespoons of water and covering tightly- this will steam the rice. Yum! Hope it helps.
