Not helpful
This book actually gave me anxiety. Here's the thing - all of this information can be found on Google very easily. The author basically took a list of anxiety symptoms and somehow managed to draw it out for an entire chapter. I don't think many people with panic attacks need this information. We already know. I thought this book was going to help me manage my anxiety, but instead, by reiterating all of the symptoms anxiety can cause, I actually felt anxious reading it.The book assumes that all anxiety sufferers are also hypochondriacs who believe that their symptoms are physical in nature, not psychiatric, and worry that these symptoms are life threatening. First off, not all anxiety sufferers believe that. There are people who panic going into a grocery store but who never worry about becoming physically ill. Secondly, this book totally glazes over the fact that anxiety can in fact have physical causes. For example, someone with a thyroid condition will experience a rapid heart beat and someone with low blood sugar will feel shaky and weak. Many times people have underlying causes for their anxiety, and once those causes are treated, the anxiety greatly improves. The author waits until the very end to share his tips and suggestions, but they're very basic, and you're probably already doing them.I'm pretty sure this book was put together in under an hour.

Understanding Panic and Anxiety
The author completely understands the symptoms of panic and anxiety and gives a lot of good advice on coping and rewiring the brain. However, I disagree with his approach that itâs âjust anxiety.â Iâm dealing with childhood trauma, and that approach seems as if heâs âblowing offâ my panic and anxiety.

Very helpful!
âAnxiety: Panicking About Panicâ is a book for those of us who suffer from anxiety and even panic attacks. Itâs split into three parts â Part 1 outlines the typical symptoms of anxiety and helps the reader acknowledge their problems; Part 2 explains the causes and effects of the symptoms, and Part 3 is the part that gives advice on how to cope with and defeat anxiety. The book concludes with the authorâs personal journey of battling anxiety. The first thing Iâd like to say is that I truly wish I had known about this book during and after law school â it would certainly have saved me a lot of time spent in the counsellorâs office! Panic attacks and anxiety are terrible things that are quite common and are, unfortunately, rarely talked about and acknowledged. As the author correctly points out, if not dealt with, anxiety can easily lead to depression which is a very horrible illness and shouldnât happen to anyone. The advice the book gives is most certainly helpful and applicable to many people who donât understand what is happening to their mind and body. The book provides a comprehensive list of most common physical and psychological symptoms of anxiety, most of which I easily recognised from my years of struggling with G.A.D. The overwhelming symptoms are very difficult to bear, especially if you donât know what and why they are occurring. Luckily, âAnxiety: Panicking about Panicâ helpfully addresses the what and the why of anxiety symptoms and provides the doâs and the donâts of dealing with the issues. It doesnât oversimplify the problem, nor does it make it into something intimidating and scary that requires immense strength and immediate medical intervention. Instead, it provides a very helpful guide to acknowledging the problems and working through them, using the authorâs own experiences. Panic attacks arenât glossed over either â an explanation of what they are and why they are not to be feared is provided, together with some very helpful ways of dealing with them. One of the most helpful things in this book is the authorâs explanation of the âloopâ â the catch-22 situation that occurs when an anxiety sufferer begins to feel anxious and panicky about being anxious and panicky and about everything that comes with it. While reading that part, I felt as though I was reading about myself â I was (and to an extent, still am) that person who immediately starts researching everything that could be wrong with me when something feels wrong, and it inevitably lead to being trapped in a vicious circle of anxiety. The author clearly and succinctly explains why it is a terrible idea to do so and ways to avoid it, using both text and graphs. The âloopâ is a very easy and a dangerous trap to fall into, but it can be avoided if one has a book like âAnxiety: Panicking about Panicâ close by.I would definitely recommend this book â in this day and age, there are many causes for anxiety and few well-known ways of working through it. I believe, therefore, that it would be quite helpful to most people.

Life changing..
I haven't even finished the book and I feel so unbelievably relieved already. Like a weight has lifted off my shoulders. Author does amazing job at making you feel human again and helping reader understand that they are not alone. I feel like my anxiety is something I can overcome now, whereas before this book I felt hopeless. Definitely recommend this!

Solution at last
Excellent book about anxiety. To the point, simple, concise, yet vast in its explanation, and more importantly, solution. Though I no longer suffer from debilitating anxiety, I once did. It would have been great if a book like this was around then. At that time, 30 years ago, only one book on the subject could be found on the bookstore shelf. I still own that book, and now this one.

and very easy to follow
As a long time sufferer of panic attacks and anxiety in general, I have read quite a few books on the topic in hopes of gaining some insight. This one in particular was really refreshing. Simple, concise, and very easy to follow.I like that the author gives the reader some background and helps to demystify the symptoms.I read it cover to cover in a few hours. His approach is simplistic and logical and I'm going to start implementing it!

excellent
I cannot say enough about the powerful influence this book had and continues to have each day. I am grateful to Mr, Fletcher for having written it. Sharing his experience with panic in such a knowledgeable and caring way has been able to give me a whole perspective on this dilemma that I've been struggling with in my own life. Highly recommend.

Be careful
This self-help book itâs written from a very personal perspective. It starts with a description of anxiety syntoms. But then it tries to deal with the problem by ignoring its causes and fighting just the anxiety outcome. It even generalises some well known conditions, each one with their own causes and preferred treatments, as just anxiety. This can be harmful for many people with conditions that go beyond a high amount of sustained stress. The later is what to me this book is about. The former are conditions that, if not understood properly, will inevitably end in up the same syntoms this book tries to fight, plus a bigger feeling of despair. In fact, that treating the symptoms approach is something that medicine and healthcare in general is trying to overcome for the last decades. Fortunately, we are making a lot of progress by better understating, treating, and preventing the causes of our health problems. This book goes in the opposite direction and should be read with lots of scepticism. In fact the author boldly claims that, as a victim of anxiety, understand the problem better that the whole medical profession (like if there are not doctors that could have experienced anxiety and observed millions of people suffering from it, studied it, etc).On the positive side, the author shows a healthy approach to dealing with its acute anxiety problems. Not allowing the condition to define yourself and have a more confident and relaxed approach is helpful. The syntoms (e.g. fear) are emotions and not the condition itself, and that is something that can be deal with when they appear. In fact, with a lot of conscious work, one can be trained to deal with anxiety the same way its trained (unconsciously) to be anxious. Same way we can fight other habits. Despite this being very hard, it could improve the condition. The problem is that the approach is poorly explained and lacks rigor. So if there are more serious conditions (e.g. OCD) behind this anxiety habit than our way of dealing with normal daily issue, the problem wonât go away. And the opposite is also true. Some anxiety disorders are just habits that can be deal with as such, being aware and building more healthy habits. For those this book might have provided useful help if more rigorously approached by its author. And by the way, against what this book claims, sustained stress and anxiety can actually increase the risk of deadly conditions such as heart attacks, metabolic problems, etc. So it is a serious health threat.

FANTASTIC BOOK HELPED ME REALLY UNDERSTAND ANXIETY AND WHAT IT IS!
Wow this book is fantastic! For many years i have suffered anxiety and all the feelings it comes with i never really understood what waa going on with my mind and body until now!! I have read this on my kindle and its given me comfort and really helped me when the flutters of anxiety have appeared! Now i understand its all about rewiring the brain and the thought process. Now i look at anxiety like a Big lion or a tiger thats right behind me in a cage and its roaring and dying to get out to get me but i am not allowing it! I will not be beaten by this! Reading this book i have now seen off a fair few developing anxiety episodes they have not fully developed at all because i just tell myself its just a bit of anxiety its going to be alright it will pass soon and its going to be okay again.I feel this book has given me some strength to face anxiety rather than fear it. I no longer think i am dying or having a heart attack as joshua has described all the feelings that come with anxiety and panic!I am now about to download the 2nd of his booksThank you for helping me understand this Joshua

The best book I have read about anxiety by far
I have read many books regarding generalised anxiety and panic disorders. This is the best book I have read by a mile. It is simple straight to the point and I feel like I can be free from panic attacks after waking up this morning wondering if I would be stuck with my symptoms forever after having panic attacks every other day. At the end of this book the author talks you through a panic attack so you can read it when you feel one coming on. I decided to read it out loud and record it on my phone so I can listen to it when I feel an attack brewing. I even slightly tailored it to me. I'm going to put this book to the test and edit my review later. This book is a saviour today!

Highly recommended
This is a genuine and honest book about suffering from anxiety from someone who has known and felt it on the inside. I've read a few other books from well intentioned professionals. These have their place. This book is unique because of the sincere voice/person of the author who writes with clarity and offers helpful suggestions to dealing with the anxiety condition.

A MUST FOR ANXIETY SUFFERERS
A self-help book written clearly and in "layman's terms", PANICKING ABOUT PANIC is essential reading for anybody who suffers from the debilitating effects of anxiety. The author has been through it himself, which adds an extra level of sincerity and warmth to his writing, and he gets straight to the point from the beginning, never falling victim to tedious and nebulous technical jargon. He lays everything out with admirable clarity, and provides plenty of examples to emphasize all the key aspects of this troublesome - and very worrying - affliction. The fact that the book is not too lengthy is also a bonus, as it makes picking it up and going back to it far less daunting than, say, if it clocked in at 400 pages! Nevertheless, it covers everything in sufficient detail, and reading it was, for me, remarkably therapeutic. It's almost like you're having anxiety and its effects explained to you by a very kindly (and never patronising) person who speaks from personal experience. Truly excellent.

5 stars
I have only suffered anxiety a short while but for 40 plus years I have been a worrier. Just recently as I say anxiety hit me and finding this book 6 weeks into it has been a blessing. I have read it in 2 days and it has really calmed me and given me hope that life can return to normal or even better as I need to stop the worrying and self scanning for health issues. I know what I have read in this book has given me the tools to start to do this. Thank you Joshua.P. S. So sad about your wee Bro.

Not sure about the science
Whilst it's good to know you are not alone and that panic cannot kill you I question the science. The author says the adrenaline gland must run out of adrenaline. For a start the body has two adrenaline glands. And in my case they never run out. Hour after hour of prolonged panic.

Read with caution
I gave up as soon as the author demonised antidepressants. It's harmful to make the blanket statement that they don't work for the majority of people and that they don't deal with the root cause of anxiety. While the latter may be true, everyone experiences the effects of medication differently, and I for one have found (in addition to other treatments such as CBT) that it's pulled me back from the brink of despair. This book is from a personal perspective - which is fine, but not when there is so much scientific 'information' included. Just read with caution and scepticism. I bought this book alongside others when I was in the grip of anxiety, I was sucked in by the good reviews. I wish I'd realised it wasn't a book written by a professional with evidence based practice in mind.

Not for me
the book wasnt my cup of tea but mainly because it ws quite general and brief on each individual aspect i hoped there would be more details. i felt that it was very much based on personal experience which meant that most of the book is spent describing what it is to be anxious which the reader probably knows, rather than actually giving help or advice. i also didnt appreciate being constantly told that my anxiety isnt real and i should just let go of it rather than being given practical advice.
