The idiots

ever heard of DOGMA 95? or perhaps you did but you are still wondering what is this all about. To put it in a nutshell is the film devoid of elaborate special effects or technology. IDIOTEN gives you the chance to be acquainted with this movement, that for those interested in cinema aesthetics, is A MUST. The STUDIO SYSTEM is no welcome here. Am sure it is worth being watched & re-watched.

Love this film, it's hilarious and shattering and extremely controversial (as with many Lars von Trier films). Dogme #2/The Idiots is a wild ride and I am so happy to own it since it's really hard to find any other way

Anyone with a fascination for strange and discomfiting cinema should see The Idiots. For me it's a bit like Lars Von Triers having a go at Even Dwarfs Started Small. There are a few moments, especially the final scene; where a strong Mike Leigh flavor comes through. Honestly, the middle section of this film was really difficult for me to watch. Sometimes I would only watch 5 minutes and have to stop and digest / shake it off. Not that that's a bad thing; since I consider it a worthy barometer of my own preconceptions and programming. Certainly worth seeing.

This version ( only available in this non- US coded DVD;I bought a region-free DVD just because I wanted to see his vision) is uncut and represents the Dogme95 ethos as Lars envisioned it. Whether you like it depends on what you think of the particular film theory.

After years of waiting, I finally ordered Von Trier’s “Idioterne.” Then I waited a full month . ..waited as this film moseyed all the way from THE NETHERLANDS to my home in sleepy Shreveport, Louisiana. The Idiots was. the Only Dogme’95? film Lars Von Trier’s bothered to even film. The fact that Lars, after having painted himself into a corner, I think the Only way to make a fearless Comedy in an effort to make a deliriouslyfunny., exercise in filmmaking as one of the only directors still with us. The Idiots is undoubtedly , in my own opinion, HILARIOUS...then, sans Thomas Wittinbergb( and a few leftover directors signed on the Dogme 95 Cinematic Commandments was prove to themselves they can make a more personal, intellectually stimulating and then true to the Great Dane’s restless soul, burning bright, white light...Von Trier suddenly decided his own truly singular and , seriously Artistic movement.Dogme, for Lars Von Trier, was history . The whole point of the stringent guidelines , the whole movement itself, began to stifle Von Trier , then in his fertile imagination—The very structure of. Von Trier’s imagination, Unbridled force of nature is—He’d simply outgrown —The Artist he was. Ya know...Certain peoples are either gifted with a special innate appreciation...an inherent consciousness of particular Artists. He may provoke you,. Don’t get angry. Idiots is okay, it’s fun....If ya want to see/hear/EXPERIENCE a True artist at work....BREAKING THE WAVES, in my opinion—is HANDS DOWN—the single greatest film 🎞 of the the 1990’s! —todd gold

Worked perfectly good movie also very strange but well directed I liked the ending. Pretty disturbing great series by lars von trier

Very good film.

Based on the other reviews, it seemed like this was a region free DVD, however it will not play on my bluray player. Any suggestions? Been dying to watch this for years.

Dogma, une manière de filmer, de rendre enfin adulte le cinéma, loin des flon flon et nappes de violon, de l'usine à rêves, du story telling... Un cinéma du réel, qui ne renonce pas à la fiction, ni au mais la raconte aux dimensions de la réalité. L'antidote absolu à l'énorme supercherie de la télé réalité qui fait passer une fiction construite, au service des pires stéréotypes, pour le réel. Dogma ne mettra pas en faillite l'usine à rêves, car le produit se vend bien et pour longtemps. On peut espérer qu'il rencontrera un public qui en a marre qu'on le prenne pour ce qu'il n'est pas. Un public qui ne ferme pas les yeux sur la réalité.

Pacco arrivato prima dei tempi previsti. La qualità video lascia a desiderare, ma è già un miracolo che si sia riusciti a produrre una versione home video del film in versione integrale, a differenza di quella distribuita in Italia.

Ein Lars von Trier Film, wie man ihn erwartet. Etwas schwere Kost und an der Grenze des zeigbaren . Dieser Film lässt einen in die Gefühlswelt geistig Behinderter schauen, von Leuten die naiv aber ehrlich sind ! Super!

un film assez indescriptible, au début on a l'impression de tomber sur un faux documentaire d'une bande de potes un peu cinglés et puis on se fait vite happer dans leur groupe sans pour autant mieux comprendre leur folie. La fin est bien remuante. Un des rares films avec des scènes de sexe non dissimulées... Imaginez ça avec des acteurs qui en plus imitent des attardés... C'est sur, c'est pas commun

Still it holds as Lars Von Trier's masterpiece to me.
