They provide security over the factory door locks that can be easily opened by simply breaking the glass. We keep expensive equipment in our plumbing vans and this makes us feel a little safer for daytime security. The brackets are stainless steel which is nice, but the lock pins are not and have already began rusting in less than three months in our South Carolina rains. Were going to keep the WD40 to them and hope for the best as the lock and ring are one piece ( contrary the the pictures showing a locking pin ring on the guard ) and you cant swap the lock for a hardware store version without loosing the security shield and making the lock easy to wrench off.
