Q: What happens with the outer net that holds it together - does these have to be removed before transplanting, or does it also dissolve away?

Have used in sandy and clay soil. They have never dissolved for me. I find that I have to remove the netting on the bottom of the plug when transplanting, or the plant will become root bound and die.

Q: Why is one dimension in millimeters and the other in inches?

To ensure both systems are represented.

Q: How long do they last? If I only use 50 will the other 50 be good next year?

as long as you havent wet them they will last a long time & are usable.
