Review: Sangean SR-35, the only radio you need to buy. - I received my radio on December 10th, 2018 and I love it, The radio takes two AA batteries and they seem to last forever. The battery compartment door is attached to the radio so there is no chance of losing it when replacing the batteries. I am still using the first pair of batteries that I put in when I got the radio The radio's dimensions are: 4.92 inches high, 2.76 inches in width and 1.26 in depth. The radio comes with a wrist strap and a user manual. On the right side of the radio is the tuning dial and the AM/FM switch and on the left side is volume dial which is also the on/off dial. On the bottom left is the headphone jack. The radio has a very nice antenna that also swivels and it also folds nicely into the back of the radio when not in use. The sound from the radio is the best that I have ever heard from a portable radio. FM sounds especially good with the antenna extended, AM sounds great as well. The radio is able to pick up a lot of stations that other radios can't pick up. The radio is very lightweight and has nice round corners which make it easy to carry in a shirt or jacket pocket. If you are looking for a portable radio perhaps one to have when the power goes out and you need to hear weather reports or you just want a radio to listen to while out for a walk, then this is the radio for you. So after watching few videos I could clearly hear the difference. I have several portable radios and they all have this tiny box like sound, pretty similar to the sound from a cellphone speaker... but this Sangean guy definitely didn’t sound like other radios. Then I thought I’ll take the risk and just buy it and in case it has problems as described by quite a few negative reviews I’ll just return it. So I ordered the radio and it has been only few days and I am quite happy with it. The sound quality is like no other radio of this size I’ve ever heard. It is full and definitely doesn’t sound tiny and has well defined lows and highs and no distortion of any kind at normal listening volume. Hopefully the radio keeps on working for long time because only based on how it sounds I think that it is pretty good value for money and definitely a five star radio. Other aspects of it are ok too. I am not so much into listening to AM radios because of all the interference from household items such as dimmers, fridges, etc. but from the little time spent on AM I think that tuning works decent. FM on other hand is what I listen to all day and I think that this radio is perfect there. I have no complaints whatsoever, it has a great reception and because of the excellent speaker it listening is really a pleasant experience. In a test with the radio, it could receive a station on 1690 kHZ, which was verified with a fully digital radio. **Q: The radio made in Taiwan or Dongguan China?** A: This is a darn good question. The company was founded in 1974 and is headquartered in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, with a factory located in Dongguan, China.I don't know where this analog pocket radio is produced, there is no information on the radio itself.Technically, the concept of the radio is good and I found it has the best sound for this size, period.The problems are elsewhere: for the first year I gave them a 5 stars grade. After cca 1 year the moving parts start faltering and I lowered the grade to 1 star only.It is finicky to tune, the volume adjustment is scratchy and uneven, drifting is pronounced, jumps in places you do not expect. In short, it is a pain to tune into your desired station.I bought 3 SR-35 and all have these problems. Conclusion: a very good radio concept failed by incorporating sub-grade moving parts such as variable condenser and volume potentiometer.Regrettable, but true.
