"Any landscape architect worth their soil should pick up The Architecture of Trees , an all-encompassing atlas of all things tree-related."โ The Architect's Newspaper An incredible book for anyone interested in trees, this botanical masterwork's new edition preserves the original magnificent illustrations and text, translated into English for the first time. Selected as an "Oprah's Favorite Things" pick upon its release, The Architecture of Trees is a gorgeous, large-format volume that features more than 550 exquisite quill-pen drawings of trees. The result of over twenty years of dedicated study by landscape architects Cesare Leonardi and Franca Stagi, this is a legendary and unsurpassed masterwork. This new editionโs features include: Each of the 212 tree species drawn to a scale of 1:100, with and without foliage. Considered a standard in many landscape architecture firms, this botany bookโs drawings, essays, and charts are essential for large-scale landscaping projects and a helpful tool for backyard renovations. Landscape designers will think in new ways about the effect of seasons and the time of day on trees, and anyone interested in nature and trees will be captivated by the hand-drawn illustrations, each stunning in detail. Review: Canโt believe this is a real book someone made - An utterly breathtaking book, full of meticulous illustrations of trees, with and without leaves, along with diagrams of their shadows through the year. Helpful for winter ID
This book can help with winter identification when the leaves are gone. For example, the book has nice line drawings for both the red oak (Quercus rubra) and pin oak (Quercus palustris) that clearly show the pin oak has limbs and branches that are completely haywire and chaotic in comparison to the red oak. Most of the trees in the book aren't native to America, but many of our trees are no longer native because of pests and diseases. There are now many Asian and European native trees that line our streetscapes- katsura, zelkova, Japanese lilac, London Plane (a hybrid), European hornbeam, etc. Many of our non-native trees are illustrated in this book.

Beautiful trees
This is a gorgeous coffee table book. The illustrations are framable. Unfortunately I was looking more for a winter tree ID book. This didnโt fit the bill for me. If you like black and white drawings, this book is for you. Definitely worth the price.

fantastic overview
A must have for architects and landscape architects, but especially architects such as myself, who have no idea about the specificity of different kinds trees and shrubs, and whose knowledge on the subject ends at the level of "green" or "evergreen", big or small. The illustrations in scale are absolutely fantastic and the entire publication is very luxurious and a pleasure to hold and look at.
