Nice Lamp but Beware of HOT On/Off Switch!
This is a nice little desk lamp with a modern look at a great price. It doesn't take up a lot of room, and it's sturdy (heavier than expected). Very flexible gooseneck, so repositioning is easy. I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that the metal ring at the base of the on/off switch gets VERY hot. I wasn't expecting it the first time I went to shut the lamp off, so I'm now sporting a medicated Band Aid on my thumb. If you can remember to touch just the plastic switch and not the metal collar, you'll be OK.

It's hot because you're using an incandescent bulb 🤦
Conflicting reviews on this item so I felt I'd throw in my two cents. Perhaps the quality control is bad, but I think this little lamp is great: It is compact and flexible, the base is sturdy, it fits a standard A19 bulb and it costs $10. Exactly what I needed for a small desk lamp.I honestly think most of the bad reviews are crap from people who don't know what they are talking about: tons of bad reviews from people still using incandescent bulbs claiming the lamp is too hot: of course it gets hot! That's because of the type of bulb you use and not the lamp itself. 🤦 This lamp socket will take any A19 bulb 60W or less and unless you have a monster bulb, it will probably fit easily in the cavity. I put a 9.5W LED (60W replacement) in there and it works perfectly and it is still cool to the touch even after running for several hours. A CFL would work fine too and would still not put out nearly as much heat as an incandescent.

I loved it
It's the first time I bought a lamp for my desk.I didn't know which one to pick since Amazon has a lot of great options but this one was cheap and looked fine. The overall stability is better than the old one this one is replacing. I can orient the light in almost any direction without problems. Its 12" flexible neck is very solid but easy to move. You have to get used to the on/off switch. I spent about 5 min trying to press "the button" before realizing you have to turn it.This one takes 60 W max E26 bulbs (the common ones), but I am using it with a 14 W CFL (900 lm) that I also bought here in Amazon (it was one of the suggested things that other users bought together with this lamp). I also tried to use a 65 W halogen lamp but it's too bright (1519 lm) for a desktop lamp. Moreover the lamp itself got quite hot after just a few minutes.I suggest to use it with "Warm light bulbs" (2700 K to 4000 K) since it doesn't produce the glare on the white pages of your notebook that is typical of the daily-light bulbs (6500 K or around this "color temperature")

Great desk lamp! Recommend it - except for the wattage recommendation.
Heavier than I expected, which is a good thing with a gooseneck lamp. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is that the description says you can use a 60 watt bulb in it - but really you can't. My lamp got burning hot... like scalding hot... dragon fire hot. Not a huge deal, I'll just buy some 40 watt bulbs, but I really wanted the brightness of a 60 watt.If you use CFL bulbs - not an issue. But I use an old school bulb for my desk lamp... my eyes prefer it.

Perfect little retro lamp (use an LED bulb to keep it cool)
I had been looking for a small desk lamp for some time and this fit the ticket exactly and at a great price, too. I use a Philips 10.5-watt (60-watt equivalent) 800 Lumen LED bulb that produces clean, bright light yet keeps the lamp cool to the touch (cost nearly as much as this lamp but worth it).I work from my home office and like to use two small desk lamps, one on each side. This lamp would also make a good bedside light. I had a similar desk lamp when I was a kid (a very long time ago!) and I guess a good design stands the test of time. It's a solid lamp with good weight and there is a velvet (might be some kind of heavy paper) on the bottom to protect the surface it sits on from damage. The lamp is all metal (might be aluminum) and the only plastic is the on-off switch. It is packaged well and ready to plug-in upon arrival. This is a great little lamp. Two thumbs up from me.

A classic.
I still have one like this from college 40 years ago. That one has a slightly elongated front "hood" to the shade, like the bill on a cap to shade the light, which I really like. Other than that, this one is very similar. An ideal desk lamp.

knob becomes impossible to turn within months or a year
Update 3: I can't give more than 2 stars given that my second one is breaking the same way the first did (see below). And, whereas the first lasted a year, Lamp #2 is nearly at the final stage after just a few months. This is a pretty junky product.Updated Review: It's surprisingly difficult to find basic desk lamps on amazon. I want metal, corded, non-LED, plain base (no storage trays/slots), goose-neck. I bought this lamp when it was $8.99 and it lasted exactly a year before the knob became impossible to turn, even with pliers (while the lamp was unplugged. That's sad because my previous desk lamp lasted literally eight or nine years and multiple cross-country and even trans-Atlantic moves, but products are crappier and crappier nowadays, so $9 for a year seems *maybe* okay... Now that it costs nearly double that, I'm less inclined to purchase it, but I might anyway because I need a lamp and my local Target had horrible options, to my surprise.

This Lamp + These Lightbulbs (listed in the review) = Perfect Combination!
After much searching and comparing different lamp options here on Amazon, I bought two of these lamps to put on the bedside tables in my guest room. Nearly all of the lamps that I was finding were either too small, or too large (shades of Goldilocks and the 3 lamps!)...these ones are *just* right, and I really like the flexibility (heh, pun intended) that they give my guests in terms of where they want the lamp shining (are they reading in bed? Working on their computer? etc.).Because I don't like how a standard bulb looks in these lamps (a standard bulb is a bit too long so it sticks out past the shade), I ordered these 40w appliance bulbs to go in the lamps, and they are *perfect*!
