Finally found a good one!
Finally! A hand blender that does what I need. I recently purchased several brands, and had to return them all. But this Cuisinart is a little gem. Of course, I have several Cuisinart small appliances and I'm adding this one too. The buttons are a little hard to get at first, but thankfully I read the instruction book. There is a button on the very top, a "lock" button, that needs to be pressed down when you are setting the speed. For now, it requires both of my hands, but once the lock button is in place, everything runs smoothly. And quiet, too. I look at the button as a safety feature, it has to be locked in place before the blender will operate. Next thing I like about this is its ability to crush ice. I bought this hand blender to make smoothies, and after reading the instruction manual with the other two hand blenders I purchased recently, they both said not to use it for crushing ice. Well, when this one arrived, I went through the instruction book---thoroughly, and saw nothing about not using ice. So I thought I'd give it a spin for its first day out of the box. Worked just fine. I used six ice cubes in my smoothie, and all was well. It's a little tall so it won't fit in my above-oven cabinet while it's assembled in the box. But that's okay, as I much rather keep it in the box, so I laid it on its side. I also bought a stainless steel cup, based on the recommendation of a previous reviewer, and store that in the box too. A small drawback is trying to remove the blade assembly. There is a button on the back side that has to be pressed, and you need to twist the assembly in order to remove it. It's rather tight, (another safety feature) and when you go to place it back on the blender, make sure it locks in place and you hear a click. Now my summer is a little cooler and happier thanks to this product. Now off to get some protein powder.

A great tool...
This is a great item...I use it constantly. At this point I have owned this immersion blender for 6 months, using it several times a week. This great tool has sent my Cuisinart food processor (previously the star of the kitchen) to a hidden corner of a lower cabinet, where it rarely sees the light of day. My son loves smoothies, but before I got this blender, I hated making them because the food processor was a huge mess to clean up. Plus, the processor's blades are very sharp, and must be washed separately. I am clumsy enough that I am fearful of a deep cut every time I wash those blades. It has not happened yet, but I fear it still may. When I bought this immersion blender, I was concerned about some of the issues raised by other reviewers for similar blenders... mainly the broken plastic gearings of the motor handle. I have had no problems at all with that. I can only assume that the users were trying to grind up hard objects, such as ice, by putting downward pressure on the blade head against the bottom of the provided processing beaker. I am careful that I do not process hard objects, but honestly I think it could probably handle that too. I would say hold the blade head above the bottom and let the blades churn the ice, thus avoiding applying heavy pressure to the motor unit. But, then, I avoid using ice anyway. TIPS -- 1. Easy storage. I wrap the cord around the motor handle and put it on the shelf, then put the blade arm in the beaker and put that next to the motor on the same shelf. All is very light, compact and occupies very little space. 2. Easy cleanup. Compared to the food processor, this is night and day. I drop the blade head in water as soon as I am done, to let it soak. When I clean up, I wash the beaker like any cup (it's clear plastic, so do not use abrasive wash pads) then put the wash pad tip in the blade head, twist it a few times and then rinse it. This keeps my fingers away from the blades, and still cleans up perfectly. No cut fingers! 3. A tip for usage. When I first began using the blender, I would plug it in, insert it into the cup and begin blending the food. Often, I would stop to add additional ingredients (leaving the entire blender upright in the beaker) then resume processing. I found that sometimes the weight of the cord on the motor handle could cause the whole blender to tip over, spilling the beaker's contents ... big mess! Since then, I press the rear release button to remove the motor section, but leave the blade arm still in the beaker. Then I snap the top half (the motor half) back in place when I am ready to resume blending. This works very well. It only takes one or two spills to see the benefits of this approach. I can't say enough good things about this blender. I really really like the whole idea of an immersion blender and this one is very good. I had never even heard of immersion blenders until I came upon a recipe that specified the use of one. I was puzzled, so I looked it up, bought this one, and will never go back.

Great blender...not so great on/off function
This is a great little blender. I make soup fairly frequently, but have never cared for large chunks of veggies floating around...I prefer a more blended dish. Until I bought this I had been cooking my soups, pouring them into the blender, pureeing them, and then transferring everything back into the pot. It was a hassle, made a huge mess, and I found out the hard way that if you try and seal steaming hot soup into a blender, it will explode on you (fun times!). I'm happy to report that this immersion blender has handled everything I have thrown at it with ease. It has made quick work of potato soup, cauliflower stew, and made a perfectly pureed broccoli and cheddar soup with no problems. I was actually shocked at how quickly I was able to blend an entire stockpot of veggies. Best of all? Cleanup is a breeze...simply pop off the attachment, wash it, and you're done...SO much easier than cleaning up a blender canister, the blades, the lid, the counter because you spilled soup trying to pour it in afor mentioned blender, the wall because you forgot everything you learned in science class and tried to blend steaming soup without venting it and it blew up in your face and the all over the kitchen and your husband comes in and you're laying in the kitchen floor covered in boiling lava hot molten potato weeping into your disgraced dinner. Remember science class, children. My *only* problem with this blender is that you have to constantly hold the button down to keep the blender going. I didn't realize this when I bought it (that's what happens when you don't read the fine print) and I would have probably looked into getting a different blender had I known. It can get a little tiresome smashing the button in if you have large quantities of food to blend. I'm fairly certain blending last weeks' potato and ham chowder gave me localized arthritis in my right thumb...and I had a hand cramp for quite some time after that. I wouldn't recommend this blender as a gift for those with anything less than monster manly thumbs...don't buy it for your Granny...she doesn't need that sort of pain in her life. All in all, though, a great blender, and I'm pretty pleased with my purchase.

Great Blender, just wish it had a base.
Cuisinart makes a great quality product which is why I chose this handheld blender over the others. It didn't let me down. It is simple to use, sturdy, even the measuring cup that comes with it is extremely durable. Only thing I wish it had was some sort of base that you can stand it upright on as you don't want to stand it up on the part that blends on your counter so it was hard to use and then set aside while cooking. You had to lay it down on a paper towel or cutting mat. Other than that, it is not small so it is hard to store in your cupboard. You have to either lay it down to make it fit in your cupboard OR there is a black button on the back of the blender that when it is pressed the blender separates into two parts which is easy to store that way in your cupboard. For simple uses like blending eggs, etc. it would be great if there was one half the size as you don't need the full size to do that. I have no problems using this mixing eggs, etc. but when I tried to mix a pancake batter it was a little more difficult as I was blending 1 cup of pancake mix and 3/4 cup of water so it was thick at first, BUT the handheld blender did mix it very well. You have two settings only Low and High. You have to keep the button pressed down while mixing, it is not a turn on and turn off type of blender, I would have preferred that as while mixing the pancake mix it was hard to keep my finger on the button and mix. The measuring cup has a pouring spout which I love and makes it easy to pour the mixture, in this case on the grill to make pancakes.

Unusable AND Unsafe.
Several years ago I purchased one of these blenders for making soap. I was delighted with it. In fact, so much so I decided to order another one to use around the kitchen (wanted to leave the soap one as a dedicated tool for soap making. I was shocked to learn that this unit is NOT the same as the one I had purchased several years ago. The main issue is that this unit now has a "safety" button that pretty much renders the device useless. In the older model, all you had to do was hold it in one hand, in the palm of the hand, and then press the button with the thumb. This was easy to do, and you could comfortably use the unit for extended periods of time with one hand, leaving the other hand free to hold your blending cup, or add ingredients to the mix. This unit has added a "safety" button to the top of the unit. Now, you have to hold both the safety switch AND the on button down simultaneously and continuously. I find this impossible to do with one hand, and uncomfortable, at best to do with two hands. Now the unit is very safe, as it is pretty much impossible to use, and will be thrown in a drawer, will never be used, and hence no one will ever get hurt. Now, next grips. The business end is next to impossible to clean. This is because the little blade does not come off, and you are forced to reach up in and around the blade to try to get the mess out of it. As you move your finger around trying to get the thing clean back above the blade, you end up cutting your finger on the razor sharp blade. So, the unit is not only unusable, it is unsafe. The next issue is that since the little blade does not come off, there is no way to replace it. When the blade becomes dull (likely from hitting the bone in your finger as you are trying to clean the unit), you are unable to replace it, and you must throw away the whole unit. Well, throwing away the whole thing is probably the best thing to do. Actually the best thing would be to simply never buy it in the first place and find a unit without the unusable safety switch, and a unit with a detachable blade. Shame on you Cuisinart. Every time I buy one of your products I promise it will be the last time.

LOVE this "Stick Blender" (but not for mashed potatoes - see review)
I am SO surprised I've never had one of these. I'm a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America. . and 54-years-old. . . and I'm just now getting one of these. I guess I always thought that I wouldn't have a use for it. . . or at least wouldn't use it all that much. . . WRONG! I make my own salad dressing, for which it works great. I have a small Cuisinart "mini chopper", which I like, but for most/many things this works just as well, and clean-up is a LOT easier. Simply press a button . . . The bottom rod comes off. Pop it in the dishwasher, and TA-DA. . . You're Done! FYI. . . Currently there is a video on Amazon.com for this product showing someone making mashed potatoes with it. . . CRAZY! Don't Do That! The BEST and EASIEST way to make mashed potatoes is to use a potato ricer! Lumps be gone! Do NOT buy a cheap, flimsy potato ricer. They bend very easily (have had a couple). It's worth investing in a nice one. . . especially if you make mashed potatoes very often. Norpro 469 Deluxe Cast Aluminum Jumbo Potato Ricer Norpro Stainless Steel Commercial Potato Ricer

Good except for new 'lock' button on end...
I was replacing a very old stick blender, and trying to get one like I got my parents - this one looked the same, but it has some new 'lock' feature on the very end, which is super obnoxious. In order to use the blender, you have to press down on the lock button at the very end, before (or after) holding down one of the 'on' buttons. The way I use the stick blender is on/off/on/off/on/off/on/off/on/off - a lot of on and off. Because this stick blender has a lock button, it makes it pretty hard to use the way I normally use it. It feels like I can fix this by taking the blender apart, but they also covered up the screw holes with little plugs, so I'm going to hot-glue the lock button in place, which I think will be ok, but... yeah. what a stupid design! It makes the single handed stick blender a two-hand operation, not cool at all. Some people have found fault with the plastic 'gear' coupling from the top part to the lower part, but I haven't had any problems. I generally use the stick blender to make pizza sauce, so I'm not trying to crunch ice or anything. (that's what I'd use a blender-blender for) YMMV depending on what you're trying to blend. Probably not ideal for smoothies, but just fine for tomatoes. On the plus side, this stick blender has a dishwasherable lower piece, which is good, my old one was old-school, and didn't come apart. The blades on this blender are actually SHARP, which improves liquification of whatever I'm blending. (most often canned tomatoes for pizza sauce) I don't know, maybe the product engineers came up with the 'hey, lets have sharp blades!' idea, and the only way they could get that feature past the safety nazis was to have the irritating lock on the end. [edit] Because I had to hot glue to try to stick the lock button down, which didn't work, next I'll have to drill out the plastic caps they put over the screws, so I can take it apart to remove the lock mechanism - I lowered my review to 3 stars. [edit #2] hot glue didn't hold the lock button down; superglue did. Hot glue popped up after a day or so... I tacked the button down on 2 sides with hot glue, then used super glue on the other 2 sides. works. stupid 'feature' (feature as in 'bug' in computer lingo)

sleek, minimalist, super speedy blender!
I am very happy with this blender. I did a *ton* of research online before I bought it. In the end, the price point combined with a 3-year warranty pushed this immersion blender to the top. I also liked the reviews that it could handle making a smoothie from frozen fruit. My blender arrived last night. The packaging was not too overdone and it was easy to open. The blender came assembled and with a plastic cup/bowl. I tried it out making bullet-proof coffee this morning. It worked so well! There are two speeds -- high and low. The button is easy to operate and the blender feels stable in the cup/bowl. It created a great emulsion. And clean-up was a dream. You press one button which causes the bottom portion to release. I wiped the handle off, washed the attachment and the bowl and tucked them away. Storage is easy too. They both stand up in my cabinet. I put the attachment inside the bowl to keep it clean. Overall, I'm really happy with the quality of the product and its appearance. **UPDATE** I wanted to add some additional information since I've been using the blender for a while. Actually, daily since I got it. It continues to work great blending my hot coffee and grassfed butter. The hot coffee hasn't warped the blender bowl or caused the blade any damage. I've also used it twice to make smoothies. This evening I asked it to take on a food processor job -- making pesto. I can't say it was a perfect performance, even using Cuisinart's instructions (www.cuisinart.com/recipes/sauces/8196.html). However, with some tweaks to the instructions (If you message me, I'm happy to share) I made some really good pesto with this immersion blender. I couldn't be happier with the purchase and I know it works way better than my old Ninja.

Excelente calidad.
Se ve de bu na calidad. Me gusta para hacer salsa Italia Ana y moler directo en la olla. El equipo tiene un botón de seguridad en la parte de arriba que hace difícil el manipularla con una sola mano.

Nice product, but you can't use it in the UK
I love the Cuisinart blender we have in the USA, which is why I ordered this one (at 3 times the price) for use in the UK. But what came was a standard US blender, that requires a 120v 60Hz power supply. It even came with a US plug, which at least saved me from plugging it in and blowing it up.

Good product, works well
Good product, works well. The button on top to keep the mixer going is a bit tricky to use at first as it’s a bit awkward handling but for the price it’s a good product. Great for soups.

Tough to Handle but Great Results
I found this to be quite cumbersome. The two button system is really awkward but I'm sure I'd be thankful for it if my kid got her hands on it. I have pretty average woman hands, a tad on the dainty side and I found the girth of this thing to be a bit much to handle ;) It's difficult to pulse with the button placement, I don't know if they are hard to press or its just the way you have to hold it... just uncomfortable and awkward. However, I still like it. I like the power it has. I like how sturdy it is. I like that my kid probably won't chop her fingers off with it. LOVE that it didn't come with a ton of extra crap. Price was good. Cuisinart tends to be reliable. It's unpleasant to use but for 30 - 60 seconds I think I can deal.
