A MUST buy vacuum for pool debris!
If you're debating on whether to get this vacuum/skimmer, JUST BUY IT!!!! I read countless reviews on this product and went back and forth since there were many who mentioned the leaking issue. I chose to just take the good advice left by others! The first thing I did- the baggie trick. Thank you fellow reviewer. I put the battery module in a ziplock baggie, sealed it in the battery compartment and ZERO water. Albeit, no water seemed to get into the compartment at all, let alone the baggie. I haven't used the WD-40 trick yet however I dried the unit off after use, opened the battery compartment to air out- and will hope for a long life for this guy. The suction power is incredible. It picked up all the debris off the bottom of my pool- twigs, leaves, acorns, etc. The ONLY thing it refused to pick up was a quarter sized rock, it didn't like it. Literally left only 1 thing in the pool. All the dead algae is now gone off the bottom, and I was able to do a 34x16 foot above ground pool in 30 minutes- batteries were still going strong. The vacuum fit easily over my telescopic pool tool, and easily skirted across the bottom without any issue. It is incredibly light weight and I found zero issue with keeping it on the bottom of the pool- you HAVE TO BE PATIENT AND WALK SLOWLY IF YOU WANT A THOROUGH JOB WITH ANY VACUUM. All in all, economical, easy to use and efficient. Checks all the boxes!

A well engineered product always brings joy
So the pool had a ton of leaves from all the storms and leaves that fell. I purchased a $200 Pool Vacuum with rechargeable battery and spent 20m to pick up like 10-12leaves. Why? Because the design is poor - a narrow slot chokes all the leaves like 1 toll booth open for 6 lanes. While all the leaves get near due to the powerful suction, no leaves actually went in. Also the bad flap meant when you pull it out half the leaves go back into the pool. So I returned it and bought this and WOW! SO MUCH JOY! As a computer Engineer, I love products that are designed well and engineered well. And this is made in the US! Which is a huge plus. While it cost $90, it is so well worth the money honestly. I had maybe a few thousand leaves in the pool everywhere. Some floating on surface. Just maybe 5 min later it was down to like fewer than 20. I only emptied the bag like maybe twice just because. I did not even really need to. All I need to do is ensure I'm moving along and because of the small eddy spiral into the chamber + wide mouth means in one pass, you pick up 95% of the leaves. A second pass and voila! that spot is clean. The bag design is also such that the leaves stay sucked in at end of the bag and don't come out at all. The skimmer worked beautifully as well. It is light weight so even my wife can easily skim the pool or move it around inside the water and collect all the leaves. It is such a fantastic product. I took pics of before and after and in 5m the leaves are all gone and you have a nice clean pool. The battery compartment is possibly the lone area I'm a little concerned about - eventually it will give way and short inside. It just needs a more water tight compartment design. It also had epoxy on the wiring which is fine but may eventually crack. The blades also are nice plastic but will eventually give way. 3 hour battery life is great with 8 batteries but a rechargeable battery pack would have been nice. Just put 8 rechargeable batteries into a water tight design and the IP90 or whatever certification for water avoidance and you're set. Kudos to the company that made this. Fantastic product. Wholly recommended over any other pool vacuum honestly.

Love it
I love this pool vac. The bag is huge and holds a lot which is important to me because we live near a lot of trees. I took the suggestion of another purchaser and put a silicon gasket around the battery pack. The batteries have lasted all summer. It's so easy to use and cleans so well. If something happens to the one I have now, I will definitely purchase another one.

Great....if you plan to use it once or four times
Wow I should have listened to all the other reviews but no I just had to try it. Sadly when it works it works really well and is so easy to use. Considering it requires 8 AA batteries, who would have thought that this lil vacuum could suck up so much dirt and leaves. I was stumped how well it picked up all the dirt in debris in my 22,000 inground pool. Thought I made a wise investment until I used it for the second time and it would no longer turn on. I opened it up and bam batteries were all corroded as well as the battery compartment. 2nd use and it was useless. I contacted VMInnovations and they immediately responded and offered to replace it for me but could not guarantee that the replacement unit would be leak proof so I opted for a refund instead. I am still waiting for the refund but other than that their customer service is pretty quick in responding via Amazon. I do not suggest calling them at their business location. Keep it safe and make all communications through Amazon. Edit 07-31-2014: I have to say that VMInnovations has pretty good customer service. I contacted them and told them that the unit broke after one use and they sent out a replacement pretty quickly. That was a week and a half ago. The replacement unit worked much better than the old first unit since the battery compartment sealer was much more secure. Sadly with it's 4th use, the motor burnt out and I have shared pics to show what that looks like. Started to smoke after a few seconds then it burnt out. So the batteries stayed dry this time but water leaked into the motor and short circuited the unit to its death. At least this time I got 4 uses out of it, if they would just fix the sealer mistakes then this little device would be great. I noticed VMInnovations will do whatever they can to avoid refunding but this time I requested (sternly) that I do not want a replacement but a full refund otherwise it's an a-z complaint.

The idea is brilliant! Works great but built more like a cheap toy than a quality tool
EDIT 3/20/2021 - I've used the vacuum all last season and it's still working, but battery compartment is corroded, and that is with me taking out the battery pack, taking out the batteries, and blowing everything dry with a compressor EVERY time I use it! Just know that if you buy this, you can't just use it and toss it to the side and expect it to work next time. You have to take out the battery pack and dry everything out every use. I would be surprised if I get one more season out of this. I suppose 2 years of life = $45 per year, and since it is a really useful tool maybe that's not so bad. I spend that much on a container or two of chemicals. Again, the vac works great, no issues with that at all. As long as you are okay with completely drying it out with an air compressor each time you use it, you should get at least a couple years out of it. This is a review that’s hard to write. The idea behind this is brilliant. Battery powered fan sucks the bugs, worms, leaves, and dirt into the bag with ease. This saves so much time and is very satisfying to use! The issue is with the quality and construction of the vacuum. It looks like a cheap Chinese made toy. Something that will work for a while but then break in a month or two or way before it should. Of this was better built, and felt higher quality, it would easily rate 5 stars. But man, I can’t see this thing lasting more than a season or two. I use it about once a week. Always take the battery pack out, and blow out the battery compartment and the entire unit with compressed air to dry it out. By keeping it clean and dry I’m hoping to get a couple seasons out of it. I’ll probably buy another one when this dies. That’s how easy and useful it is. It gets all the nasty stuff and leaves in about 10-15 minutes of cleaning. Much better than I can do with a leaf and bug skimmer. By the way, it uses 8 AA batteries and I get 2 uses of about 10 minutes out of a set. Not bad. I could ge5 more time, but by then the fan is turning slower, not working as efficient so I just replace the batteries every 2 uses.

Great Value and love it being cordless.
Our trusty, tried and true hydo powered leaf vac broke at the hose connection last month. We replaced it with a similar hydro powered unit that ended up being terrible and made more of a mess than helped. I came across this battery powered unit and was willing to give it a try. Most of the cons are more suggestions for a second generation development than actually issues with the current unit. pros: -Easy to use and maneuver -No adding extra water to the pool this throwing your PH OUT OF BALANCE, then costing more in chemicals to rebalance. -no water hose to wind up, or unwind, or moving patio furniture . -Works really well with smaller leaves -This unit picks up a decent amount of leaves before having to be emptied. Cons: -the plastic seems a little inferior to our old hydro unit and I fear that it may not stand up to rugged use over time. -I hate where the power button is, as the handle tends to get in the way of turning it off when emptying the bag. -I would rather have two replaceable and rechargeable battery packs as this takes 8 double AA batteries. I can see how batteries could get expensive over time, would recommend. Buying rechargeable AA from Amazon basic. -When vacuuming up large oak leaves or leaves with longer stems they tend to get caught on the blue plastic stabilizers that hold the yellow motor in place. This then limits the amount of leaves that can be picked up. In a traditional hydro powered unit there is nothing in the center and the water being shot up creates the Venturi effect to keep leaves pushed up in the bag. I would suggest that when they do the next generation that they make rolers covering these blue plastic stabilizers so that the rollers can turn and the leaves could then unclog since it is not stationary creating a leaf jam. -I would prefer that the unit have a multi positional pole holder kind of like a Dyson stick vac to where the unit will remain flat, but depending on your position you can move it easier with outputting too much lateral pressure on the plastic connector to your extension pole. I feel this will be a week link. -Suction power is pretty decent, our hydro powered unit would suck up an acorn or acorn cap, but this will not provide the needed power to do that. Our regular Polaris will end up picking it up though.

A great product but be careful.( See three year followup)
This is a leaf vacuum but it does more than that . It gets everything up except fine dirt. Just put it on the end of the pool pole, turn on and you are in business. A regular skimmer vac has trouble picking up leaves . It gets caught in the vac head brushes. This device has rollers which are about 3/4" higher than the head which sucks up leaves without issue. The downside to this otherwise perfect gizmo is that they do leak on occasion which can cause failure. This has been written about many times in previous reviews. To prevent this I undo the battery pack screws and inspect for a leak after every use. So far there was just one. I just wiped it out and let dry without any issue. If I didn't catch it the batteries would have corroded within a week being immersed in water . I switched the regular alkaline batteries to rechargable. I use the device a lot so that is a money saver. My opinion is that this is a great product even with the leakage issue. You can clean a 36"X18' pool in 15 minutes. Spot cleaning even less. It will not replace your skimmer vac but with this product you will be using it a lot less. BTW no good on dead algae it will go right through the net. Best to use the skimmer vac for that. I find after 3 weeks of opening the algae issue is not there anymore. Fast forward three years . The 75 cent on off switch broke . It is so cheap it is beyond belief . They do not offer a replacement. So shell out another $90? Nope. I bypassed the switch which leaves it on all the time . My on off is just connecting it to the battery pack and then sealing the battery pack . When done cleaning I just unplug the battery pack. Probably just as well. as you need to open it up after every use to check for leaks. Also after three years the chlorine n he pool destroyed the rope holding the net onto the vacuum . Pointless to try to redo a small rope in the net so just buy another net assembly . The net also showed wear after three years. So after all that if I had to replace this device every year I would. It is just a time saver for my leafy pool!

This product is likely to fail within 18 months
Out of the box it's easy to get going since there's no battery to charge. Pop in 8 AA batteries and you're off and running. It does what it says it will do for the first use and maybe the second and maybe the third. However, at some point water will get into the battery compartment no matter how focused you are in water not getting in there. Before I purchased I read other reviews. I used dielectric grease, made a custom gasket, you name it. However, water is GOING to get in the battery compartment given enough time. That' exactly the problem, time. You use it and put it up. If there's a drop of water that got in the compartment last use the contacts are now corroded and there’s 18 of them to clean. You clean them, replace the 8 AA batteries and go again. Maybe the fifth use (again depending on length of time between uses) you have to really scrub the battery contacts with a wire brush and replace the 8 AA batteries again. After 8-12 months you're on shaky ground. For my device, the on/off switch also became corroded so I had to fiddle around with the contact plunger using a screwdriver to get it to release and to make contact again. Oh, don't forget to clean the battery contacts (some are now very corroded) and replace the 8 AA batteries again! After 14 months I junked it. If you're a glutton for punishment buy this device. It will work well the first time.

Great product.
It works great for leaves and much easier and faster to use instead of a net or pool vacuum.

Einfach - guter Poolreiniger
