Virginia Woolf: The Complete Works

So far, I have read The Voyage Out as well as Orlando and enjoyed both. I find that when reading Virginia Woolf, it happens best for me if I take a deep breath, slow down my breathing then focus and involve my mind on her writing completely. Nothing rushed - Virginia Woolf is never to be rushed. The Voyage Out was a remarkable piece of work with vivid and memorable events and characters, so well drawn as only Virginia Woolf could. Orlando was something else completely, I felt a little sad the way Violet Trefusis was portrayed throughout as she was not a vagabond when involved with Vita Sackville-West, but was merely the product of her times - and loved someone (Vita) who was notoriously prone to infidelity. Both Vita and Virginia appeared to make fun of her in Orlando as the Russian princess, which I found somewhat disappointing. But that's my opinion only. In real life, I think that Violet's main mistake was to involve herself with Vita at all. Virginia Woolf was also ultimately betrayed by Vita Sackville-West, (Orlando, being written in the aftermath) so all in all, Orlando was written in honour of a person with no moral compass. Thus far, I have enjoyed the collection thoroughly though.

A classic must read for all

It may be premature to review a book I've only read a fraction of (it's very long) but I was delighted to find Woolf's essays as well as her novels, and A Writer's Diary too. I am thrilled to have this rich collection. So far, I've read The Voyage Out, her first published novel, which I've never read, and selections from The Common Reader I, which I read a long time ago. I postpone re-reading my old favorites, but I know I'll get there. Woolf isn't to everyone's taste, but this is a bonanza if she is.

well, Virginia wolf is a must, no library is complete without her works

One of the most important voices of the Twentieth Century. She is at her best in her critical essays of literature, art, and biography, but the journals and diaries are also quite fascinating. Among her novels, my personal favorites are Orlando and Flush, but to each his own. This collection is truly fabulous.

This was a great compilation of some of the world's greatest writings. One of the books I would take to a desert island. I'm using the Kindle version to accompany me reading the book in Italian so I can look up words I don't know in the English version as I go along.

This is an amazing collection. Some of the works here, I had never read and I found myself awed by them. Stories like 'The Mark on the Wall' and 'The Widow and the Parrot' blew me away.
