Pentair Pentek BBF1-20MB Big Blue Deionization Water Filter, 20-Inch, Mixed Bed Deionization Filter Cartridge, 20" x 4.5"

Wanted to upgrade the 10 inch filters to this and I was able to by getting the 20 inch housings and swapping some parts. I go through a lot of DI water at work and needed larger filters. We run our water through a water softener first. Then it goes through a set of GE Merlin RO filters which brings the TDS down to 11 ppm. Then the water goes through 2 of these 20 inch DI filters and then in to a storage tank. Using 3 calibrated TDS meters, we get 0 ppm. The resistivity through some machines is so high, we have to add a hint of tap water back. So it truly is DI water.

This has worked great as a post free rinse on my cars i purchased solids parts per million counter and my water is around 180 , Once I'm done washing my car i hook up the filter and put the nozzle on a very low flow and rinse the car off "basically spot free rinse" Car comes out spotless This will hold me over until I'm able to purchase the larger spotless system.

I have purchased over 100 of these filters for my employer to filter coolant on a 3000 hp water cooled VFD. They last 2 weeks longer than the previous brand we were using. Typically they last 4 weeks before we need to replace them because the water starts to measure .75 Microsiemens. The water travels through a cooling tower which cuts the life of these filters due to the introduction of copper piping in the flow path. This is a Deionization filter that Deionizes water for mineral free water, if you are using this for a whole house filter it will probably not work well.

Arrived in perfect condition, I use these filters on CNC Laser cooling chillers.

Everything OK

I chose this cartridge rather than "Pentek PCF1-20MB" for it has 3 times more capacity (1850g vs 600g) than the other one's. The "Total Dissolved Sediments" dropped down to 3 ppm from 450 ppm (or mg/L) and the pH was reached perfect 7.5 at the first day. I was surprised at its performance and happy that I did the right choice. I started smelling a fishy smell from my tap water after the first day and the TDS raised up to 450 ppm (mg/L) again. I knew something wrong with this cartridge and also suspected that fishy smell is from alkaline smell based on my biochemist background. That fishy smell indeed is the strong alkaline smell because the pH meter indicated the pH value raised up to 12. What an incredible value!? This is very basic water that EPA won't even allow to be used in your home. I immediately discharged this cartridge and waiting for calling Pentek later when the time reached to their normal office hour. Jesus Christ :(
