I was researching the other more expensive glass cutters on desertcart, looking into "carbide" wheels to see if that would improve the quality of the cut and thought I needed a more expensive one in situations involving more expensive glass. However, since I was only going to use it once, and since you only need to use this to make a score, and not actually make any cuts, this worked as well as any to make a nice score with which to make the break. It was very important to practice a few times because the first few times I tried I made mistakes. Also, I used some mineral oil that I got from a dollar store. Not sure if it was needed, but it provided lubrication for the wheel at a very low cost. Review: good at cutting small pieces of glass for craft purposes - I have used this in two contexts; it is a little different to operate in each, but it works for both. I was first exposed to this tool when I was in grad school in chemistry. We would buy large, glass-backed TLC (thin layer chromatography) plates and cut them smaller to actually use. You could get away with scoring pretty lightly when doing TLC plates (and breaking along the score lines with gloved hands) because the glass was thin. In that instance, you pretty much just needed to see the score line in order for this to work. I have also used this to cut thicker glass at home. Please note that the glass I am cutting is sold for crafts and is not random glass I found around the house (e.g., not in windows or storm doors, etc.). I use this very infrequently, when I do, I dip it in oil to keep the cutting roller from gunking up. Sometimes works great, sometimes not so great. I attribute this to my lack of precision/skill and the fact that I am using cheap glass. If you are a crafter, not a hard-core glass cutter, this will be great.
