Writer DAN JURGENS (ACTION COMICS), artist BERNARD CHANG (GREEN LANTERN CORPS) and colorist MARCELO MAIOLO (GREEN LANTERN CORPS) bring Terry McGinnis’ Batman back to the future in BATMAN BEYOND VOLUME 1: ESCAPING THE GRAVE as a part of DC Rebirth! As the future Gotham City recovers from global catastrophe, a familiar face is ready to wear the cowl of the Batman once again. Terry McGinnis has returned to defend his city as Batman, and his family and friends couldn’t be happier. But another resurrection threatens to destroy all Terry holds dear. Rumors are spreading like wildfire that the original Joker lives-and the brutal crime lord called Terminal and his sadistic gang of Jokerz are waging war in the streets to prepare for the Clown Prince’s second coming. Just days after becoming Batman again, Terry must take up the fight against the greatest foe he’s ever faced. When the dust clears, will the joke be on him? Collects BATMAN BEYOND: REBIRTH #1 and BATMAN BEYOND #1-5 in this great new jumping-on-point graphic novel! Review: Great service, great book! - The item was shipped quickly and arrived in excellent condition. Review: Batman Beyond, Reborn!! - IGN claimed "This series admirably captures the tone of the beloved animated series and seems poised to potentially take things to a much darker place than it's predecessor ever could," and I couldn't agree more!! As a kid who grew up watching the show, and reading this for the first time as an adult, I can deeply enjoy and appreciate both ever more. The rebirth series starts with the return of the Joker (sounds familiar right?...) But in all seriousness, this recycled idea is dark, exciting and always welcomed in the Batman Beyond universe. The series and movie had it's dark, mature moments, especially for a supposed kids show, but the comics seem to intensify those themes. As the fans mature, so should the series, and this is a perfect example how to do it. I loved this first volume, and I look forward to reading and reviewing the rest of this series, and beyond...

... the animated series growing up and this does a great job of capturing that spirit
I was a big fan of the animated series growing up and this does a great job of capturing that spirit. This is a really solid story as well, having to do with the Jokerz and the return of Terry. There are quite a few twists and turns throughout that keep you engaged. Overall a hidden gem of the Rebirth titles and one that fans of the animated show will especially enjoy.

Renewed my faith in batman beyond
It is an amazing comic. Does the animated series justice and beyond. Felt like I was watching the show yet it was so much more. Officially a fan, of the writers and illustrators. Can’t wait to read the next one.

A necessary Rebirth, but not the strongest one
Batman Beyond is one of my all-time favorite TV series, but the comics have always been hit-or-miss with the future Dark Knight, even in the early days. Most recently, it wasn't even Terry McGinnis in the cowl, but a future Tim Drake in-name-only, as his personality was vastly different, because Terry was dead. Following through on recent events such as Convergence, Terry is alive and back in the cowl, and we're off. First thing is that continuity simply can't connect to the show with this. It's not the fault of this comic, as the previous Beyond comics established said continuity. However, this is one of the less-approachable Rebirth titles due to the continuity, which is a shame if you only know the show. Second is how ugly the costume design is, all due to the awkwardly-shaped red eyes. The cover lies; he never has normal-shaped white Batman eyes like he should. The big problem, though, is that the comic doesn't really do anything that hasn't already been done better in the DC animated universe. At the moment, it just sort of feels like a less-refined Return of the Joker.

Beyond brilliant.
Absolutely love this! So much better then Tom King's Batman run in my opinion. This follows Terry Mguinnis (think I spelled that right) as a future batman who is mentored by a much older and battle harderned Bruce Wayne. Dan Jurgens has done a terrific job with lots of twist and turns and of course action. It is also very interesting to see what has happened to other characters in the batman universe and where they have ended up. This is up there with Green Lantern as my favourites in the rebirth line.

Great story
I really like what the author did with the origin story and the use of supporting characters in this novel. You get to see a lot more involvement from some other characters that help develop this story and support Terry in his journey as the Batman in an even better way than they did in the animated series which for me, made this reboot even better.
