Does the depth increase from bench to table? I want the bench to be against a wall, so will it need moving away to become a table?

Yes. You need a gap for it to convert it into a table.

Does it come assembled?

No. It comes flat packed which is very heavy. Took 2 of us to build. But absolutely worth it.
