It functions as described.
It’s good. The drawback is “reading between the lines.” But that is standard for this type of indicator. Don’t leave it unsheltered for days on end. Remember remove it from the intended area. Clean/dry it. Isolate it and place it somewhere it will not be exposed to the elements.

Easy to use
This meter could not be easier. There is one button. Select Light, Moisture, or pH. Stick the probes in the dirt and read the result. The package has a handy guide on the back to how much water is appropriate for around two hundred plant varieties. Probably worth saving somewhere safe. I would not say the tool is flimsy but it should be carefully stored in a safe place. The long probes invite damage otherwise. No batteries! Just use and put away. For gardening on Cape Cod, with very sandy soil, the moisture sensor is very helpful. It is almost impossible to overwater due to drainage through sand. That said, things don't dry out in an hour but without the meter it's a guessing game. While the pH meter is helpful, it is a coarse scale. I ended up adding a second tool, a pH-only digital meter, to my gardening equipment. This tool is easy to use. If the scales were a little easier to read I would happily give five stars. That said, I have looked at a bunch of similar meters. The scales are pretty much the same setup, same size, just plain the same. This one is not unusual. Possibly there is something better but it does work, it is handy, and it couldn't be easier.Regarding easy-to-read scales, manufacturers should recall that a large portion of gardeners are over fifty. That means a large portion of gardeners use reading glasses. Personally, my reading glasses should not need to accompany me to the garden so I can read the scale on an otherwise handy meter. Is anyone listening?I hope that is helpful for someone.

Mine works fine, including the PH meter.
I saw that a number of folks said that the PH meter function didn’t work, but mine works fine, or at least it measures acidity given an acid enough testing medium. I dipped the probes into a few inches of diluted Diet Coke and it certainly is acidic, as my dentist warns me. The moisture and light meter functions work fine also.

Sunlight meter is good and easy to use, but the pH and moisture meter broke for me :/
The sunlight meter on this has been good, although I can't say for sure that it is 100% accurate. The pH meter appeared to work for the first day, but after, it's just stuck on pH 7... I followed the instructions exactly but I guess mine broke. Whether I stick it in my regular potting soil, my acidic soil (for blueberries), my peat moss, etc., it still only reads pH 7.Lastly, the moisture meter appeared to work for the first few days, but whenever I stick it into the dirt now, it goes completely off the charts saying that the soil is completely drenched. I kinda doubt the accuracy of this because I haven't watered some of these pots in days. With that said, it seems like a lot of these meters suffer from these problems, and this one was cheaper than the others so it was worth a try. Amazon was pleasant in dealing with a partial refund because only 1/3 meters worked for me. Your mileage may vary.

Useful soil tester
I bought this to check the moisture and pH for my indoor and outdoor plants. The meter is very easy to use. No battery is required. There is one button. Select Light, Moisture, or pH. Stick the probes in the dirt and read the result. This meter is helpful and take the guessing game out. I would recommend it.

Wish we bought it sooner
Neighbor brought this over to try, liked it so much we ordered one the same day. Found out we were watering way too often. Houseplants doing much better now, and I was able to use it to fine tune my drop irrigation system in the garden as well. Water bill dropped 15 bucks last month.

edit; Stopped working after 5 months.....old title; Works Great
edit; at first i as very happy with this ph soil tester and it seems to work fine. months later only the light feature and wetness feature are working. All the soil i test comes out to a ph of 7., even when i add white vinegar 5% which should make it acidic (no alkaline), this meter is now worthless. Additionally i take care of all my gardening equipment, it is important to me so i cleaned the probes and stored the unit appropriately. i guess you get what you pay for.old review; NO LONGER VALID This soil tester works as advertised, please know that it is not a chemical 'add water and drops' type of tester. you simply slide the unit into the ground and it will tell you if that area needs water, what the ph is and how much light this is getting. i'm not familiar with how the light test is helpful, since it hasn't told me anything that my eyes can't see ;).... however it works well for PH and to see if ground needs watering upto 10 CM or so

FIND ANOTHER WAY TO MONITOR WATER IN HOUSEPLANTS
They are very easy to use. However, I needed them to monitor water intake for my houseplants. The only time the meter would move is when I take it out of the plant and reinsert it...plant would be dry and the reading was that it was moist. The sunlight portion worked as long as the meter was facing the sun. Waste of money. I ordered two and opened them both. BIG MISTAKE.
