This kit is very complete as far as I can tell. I'm new to the Foam Game, but have had good luck with my first couple of tries. My attempts at freehand cutting to specific dimensions turned out badly, but when I used a straight edge the results looked like a first timer, but were acceptable. I can see this is another skill that requires some practice OR are you one of those able to cut a Staight line?

inexpensive. Easy to use. Can handle approximately 6 inch width foam. cuts cleanly and easily. However, precision depends of a steady hand by the user. Ruggedness is low. This tool can be easily broken by the ham-fisted. Is not built for professional/commercial production. If you are a hobbyist who wants to shape one or two of foam projects, this tool is for you.

Received my hand held Foam knife and hot wire cutter it seems to work pretty good I did a simple test of each of the Cutting tools the Hot Wire bow works Really well and heats up to cut quickly, The Long knife and the Short one do not cut as easily and I noticed that they do not heat up very quick at the tip if you want to pierce the foam (I'm using primarily xps foam) but we will have to test it further and see if time gives it heat at the tip for penetration holes in the foam. We will have to see how it handles over time but its a nice set of starter tools and its thoughtful tthat they not only give the NICAD wire Strung on the Hot wire tool but they give you a few feet of extra wire. The Tips interchange fairly easy there is some tightness in fitting each which is good so that you don't have the tips falling off during work. The Blades do get really hot at the sides so Please Be aware if you touch them you could get a nasty burn. Overall a good and useful crafting tool at a reasonable price.

I got a very large Ashland solid foam pumpkin from Michaels for my Halloween project and decided to try this hot knife to cut it. After pre-cutting the pumpkin with an Xacto knife and then a larger box cutter, I started with the smaller (engraving) tip and made it about 3/4 of the way around the mouth before it stopped heating. I waited a few minutes in case it was overheating, and then changed to the longer tip, since that was my goal. The long tip flexed and bent quite a lot and even started separating at its seam. I stopped using it at this point, and tried the short tip again, but it will not heat with that tip in the handle. Hopefully this is salvageable, as these pumpkins are becoming rare and very expensive. The jagged lines in the pictures are from the hot knife, and the clean lines are from the Xacto.

Recently I was commissioned to create a Stranger Things style portal for an Air BnB ceiling. I needed a foam carving hot wire set with multiple options for carving, so I tried the Winons hot wire kit. It worked like a charm! I had a variety of hot knives already, but no wire tools. This kit was a lot of fun to throw into the mix. It's far more versatile than I needed for this project, so I'm excited to see what I can pull off when I really push it. If you're looking for an all-in-one, affordable kit like this, don't hesitate. Just be patient with it because the tools are of lighter quality, so care should be taken when learning their personalities!

Product is good and would be great for smaller projects. The project that I used it on did not work well for the main wire cutter, so I had to use the bore hole and it took a lot longer to complete. Bottom line is it did the job and I had no issues, just wished the wire cutter was not constrained to only going in 3-4 inches for cuts. If the manufacturer changed the design from a big U shape to a straight narrow hold it would be a five star product easily!! Still a great product for small projects

It's a slower cut and the wire is not as taunt as the prior hot wire tool I purchased but the cuts are smooth. I was able to cut 2 inch purple foam like butter and without a lot of melting.

Very pleased with this item. For years I've cursed that foam packaging that so much stuff is packed in nowadays. It's hard to dispose of. To get it in the bin it's difficult to cut even with a sharp knife, and sawing it leaves a million little white bobbles that get everywhere. We've recently started getting our meat and fish from an online supplier. Lovely quality, but packed in large foam boxes and the prospect of dealing with them on a regular basis almost made me give up using the company. So I bought this, and what a pleasure it is to use. It comes with three fittings. Two wands of different lengths, and the bow shaped wire cutter which is what I use for the boxes. Slices through the 40 mm foam effortlessly, allowing me to cut the foam into small sizes suitable for a bin bag without a hint of mess. Brilliant! Mains supply, so no worrying about the battery running low, and comes with a spare wire. don't know how long it will last, but so far I love it. EDIT. 17th Dec 2025. I mentioned in my original review that I didn't know how long it would last. Turns out - about 5 years. It's just gone BANG. Literally. Big flash. Loud bang. Something internal in the plug has shorted and even split the plug! So. Don't know quite how to react. I must say, though, that it's been fantastically useful, during quite a hard life. It didn't do any harm when it went, and I'm going to get another. Wouldn't be without it now. I'm not even going to change my rating. Still a 5 star item for me. I just thought I'd mention this development.
