Which cartridge shoots first? The top or the lower cartridge? Thanks.

I left one laying on a table and my 30 year old son thought it was a squirt gun. He picked it up and pulled the trigger. The bottom cartridge went off. It had a pretty impressive pattern on the wall BTW and ate the paint off my TV and some pictures on the wall.

How do you shoot them? I don't see a trigger.
