The box stores and Amazon sell 6” orbital sanders and 4” oscillating ones for very few dollars. - Once sanded remove all of the dust and such with a lint free cloth and mineral spirits. - Buy a pint of the “blue labeled” product called Man-O-War Spar Varnish. Available at most hardware stores, box stores and Amazon. - Let dry for 24 hours. Once dry lightly sans with 240 grit in the direction of the grain. This will take care of all the pours of wood that have stood up. - reapply varnish. -I’ve found that 3-4 coats with light sanding between created an incredibly deep and always wet looking appearance to the surface. Hope thar helped. **Q: could this product be heated and molded and keep its shape ?** A: I would not recommend to mold into different shape. But heating under sun helped to make super flat. For me, i felt $80 price tag should equal perfect quality material and a good product experience. I am happy to say i feel that i got my money's worth out of this item given it lays flat on my wood table.Thank you to the customer service for sending me a new table protector that met my expectations.***ORIGINAL REVIEW Feb 2019***It has been over two weeks since i recieved this item and am dissatisfied with the product i recieved.I ordered the 2mil thick 54 x 54 inch plastic sheet.ISSUES:The product is indeed transparent as I'd hoped, but the sheet of plastic arrived in an oval shaped roll instead of a perfect cylindrical roll.I followed the instructions for making it flat as defined in the item description and was almost able to achieve a flat laying sheet of plastic as shown in the advertised images - but I needed something that laid VERY flat because the center of my table rotates. I planned to cut the plastic to fit the rotating part of the table.I tried the blow dryer directly on the surface of the sheet, this was ineffective and did not work for me.I found the following procedure works well:1. roll the table protector back up in the opposite direction it was rolled.2. Insert the hair dryer into the center of the tube and let it heat up for 10-12 minutes at a time on high heat. I made sure to space one end of the roll about 1/4" from a wall as to force hot air out of both ends of the plastic roll - this evenly heats the roll of plastic.3. On a flat surface, CAREFULLY Unroll the plastic sheet as not to stretch or tear it (yes, it sticks to itself when hot).4. Rotate the sheet 90° and repeat steps 1-3 until all four (4) sides are completed. After completing all sides, the sheet should be nearly flat with few to no waves.NOTE - It is also useful to pay attention to the smell of the plastic. When it reaches its annealing temperature it will begin to offgas a slight smell similar to a hot glue gun. This is when you should unroll the sheet and allow it to cool.
