I'm very happy with this model
Review: I'm very happy with this model. I'd give it 5 stars, but have to knock off one for the issues noted below. Now, onto the building guide:How accurate is this model? While building this, I've been constantly referencing the official Zoic screen renders. I have them up on a screen continuously while constructing. This model is nigh perfect. I'll actually call it perfect - to the tiniest detail - as long as you consider the following:1. The model allows you to build it with "retracted" (90 degrees) or "extended" (0 degrees) rear heat shields. The irony is that neither is correct. Doh! If you're willing, you just need to bend these 4 shields to a 45 degree angle and you're good to go. I heated my in boiling water then bent them. It took a couple passes. No problem. If you screw up, you've got an entire back up set of heat shields, so why not give it a try?2. The model allows you to built it in "flight" mode or "landed" mode. Landed is fine. For flight mode, they direct you to cut off the forward landing leg, "leaving a stub." Do not leave a stub. Cut the forward leg flush to the ship. It then tells you to affix parts 12 and 14 around this stub. Not only must the stub be gone, but you'll have to cut the "tabs" off of both 12 and 14. If you cut the tabs off, 12 will fit flush to 14, and both can now fit flush to the hull. The instructions are totally wrong in all respects in this section. If you don't trust me, follow the instructions until you're satisfied that they're wrong, then come back here and do it this way. This is the one part of the build that I found a bit frustrating. This was a silly design. A person shouldn't have to carve up visible pieces to make everything fit.3. The paint guide shows you where white, blue and grey go. Then suggests you research further if you want better detail. Zoic has absolutely perfect and detailed screen renders on the web. Do a search. You'll see the correct color of every panel from every angle.4. In the decals, some modelers noted that the blue decals are different shades, but in the show, both stripes are the same shade. Again referencing the Zoic renders, I'm shocked to discover that the decals are correct. The nose fin is a darker blue than the hull. Who knew? I watched the show for 4 years and never caught that.5.The decals allow you choose between "Intersun", "Eversun", and whether or not to use the 2 presidential seals.6. They did an excellent job regarding the placement of slots and tabs. If, for example, you have to assemble 2 engines that are mirror images of each other, you don't have to worry about gluing the wrong pieces together. Each has a different configuration of slots and tabs, so pieces can't fit together unless they were meant to fit together.7. I wonder if the extreme accuracy of the model is because the original was actually a 3-D computer render? Unlike the old days, I'd guess that they'd just have to ask Zoic for the 3-D mesh and computers took care of most of the rest.8. I initially thought that the way the nose fin attaches to the hull was silly. It creates very obvious seams that I was ready to putty over. Again to my shock, the Zoic renders show that this was an intentional decision. Most of the "odd seams" line up with seams that are visible in the original. So no need to putty them. Well done.Hope this takes some stress out of building.

Obligatory "Model-Kit-Not-Toy" notice
Kit assembled is roughly 10 inches long, about 50 pieces, medium-hard styrene in a light cream color, and a two piece stand in clear plastic. Can be built with landing gear extended or retracted, and might be slightly longer depending on how the engine thrust vanes are positioned. Decals are for the version used in the TV series and box art only. Instruction booklet is nicely illustrative and covers painting instructions. The model went together quickly and very easily. Not many seams needed more attention than what the primer addressed. Could easily be lit internally, but that would necessitate drilling out the windows. The surface of the plastic has a slight tooth to it and the cast-in detail is slightly soft, so if you have the notion of giving it a high shine, there will be much surface prep in your future; the model otherwise lends itself very well to a matte surface. Painting was uncomplicated, and the decals took more than their load of the work. I did not build it to anything other than stock, though certainly there is more than enough room for customization and remodeled details.I have no definitive position as to how accurate the model is. It looks right, and that counts for a lot. Even if you did not like the TV show, the design has a Terran Trade Authority/Chris Foss/Third Imperium (aka Traveler) feel to it. (Ignoring for the moment how much Chris Foss defined the look of the Third Imperium...) I liked the kit, it was not at all a difficult build, and would think that it would likely make a good beginner/intermediate project.
