The unabatingly impressive backpack that I didn't even realize I wanted
I travel a lot for business and I used a laptop case to carry my files, receipts, laptop, chargers, etc. As an airline carry-on option, the laptop case was convenient because of its size, but it had one strap, and I was finding that my tendency to put it on my right shoulder over the years was causing my back to go a little out of whack, and switching sides constantly was not the solution I needed. This backpack was discounted a bit for Black Friday, and having seen the quality of AmazonBasics products before, I knew that $30 was a fair price and I expected a decent product based on the reviews. When it arrived, I was able to take everything from my laptop case - passport, flash drive, files, chargers and more - and transfer it into this backpack with ease. There are dedicated pockets that are intelligently sized (there is one small pocket that is flash-drive-shaped, which was amazing). And, because of the way it's constructed, it's smaller and lighter than my laptop case. From the beginning, I was impressed, but that was only the beginning. The backpack itself complies with my airline's (and, let's be reasonable, most airlines') definition of a "personal item" rather than "carry-on luggage," whereas my laptop case was too wide to be considered a personal item (though most airlines wouldn't bug you, still, it's always better to be able to point to the regulation and say you're in the right!). This bag maximizes economy of space brilliantly, and fits under the seat in front of you on the plane, so no rummaging through the overhead compartments looking for your bag. I thought the bag couldn't get any better, but it didn't stop there. I was initially concerned about whether having a backpack rather than a laptop case would appear "unprofessional," but as a traveling salesperson, it didn't appear that anyone judged me for having a backpack rather than a case. The zippers are strong and large, so no cheap metal or plastic breaking on you as you try to open a zipper that got stuck on cloth. Everything is laid out very well. Having all my chargers, cables and files handy was useful during my presentations, when I was able to pull out hotspots, folders and other things with ease, and even keep my coins together for easy reach while paying tolls. I'm excited to use this backpack for personal 1-2 day trips also, because I can definitely fit a bit of clothing in the other pocket I didn't use (there was so much space, I didn't need to!) and be able to travel in a plane, train or automobile without having to worry about lugging around...well, luggage. The side compartment is perfect for the average bottle of water, for people that want to use this backpack in the outdoors or for long trips, and just about any laptop will fit inside the slit in the back. If the events of Amazon's history as a company in the last two decades had only culminated in the design of this backpack, that would honestly be enough to justify its existence. Of course, I'm exaggerating, but this backpack is yet another example among the many reasons more and more of my purchases are being made through Amazon. Their reputation for quality and economy of design understates the achievements of this backpack, which sets standards beyond all those previously achieved by Amazon. Thank you again, Amazon, and I look forward to seeing what the next item is that you decide to improve in ways I didn't even realize I wanted.

Too many compartments, if there can be such a thing!
I like this backpack. I looked at a lot of them online and in a few stores before deciding on this one. It is well-made, the materials are plenty sturdy, and yet it is still light and comfortable to carry. I had a hard time settling on which backpack to buy. This will accommodate a large laptop, so it ended up being a bit large for me. I wasn't sure how many pockets would be useful in a backpack I use for my laptop + business stuff. This has too many for my purposes. I get lost in the zippers. I frequently open the wrong one. There are 5 zippered compartments, with 4 zippers across the top pretty close to each other. 1) I use the very front zippered compartment for biz cards, pens, etc. There are lots of handy pockets in there for these things. 2) The next compartment back contains my laptop power cord, wireless mouse, adaptors, any other cords/cables, etc. There is plenty of room to spare. 3) The next compartment towards the back is the one I could do without. I'm not sure what to put in there. Sometimes I put my purse in there because I don't want to carry that separately along with the backpack and a projector. 3 separate bags to carry is too much. 4) The next compartment back is a small zippered pouch that hangs from the top between the 2 largest zippered compartments. I never use it, and it gets in the way. I'm thinking about cutting it off because it's irritating. I'd much rather have 1 fewer zippers to clutter up the top of the pack. 5) The rear zippered compartment is very spacious. I could carry several textbooks and/or binders if I used it for college. I often have presentation handout folders and sometimes a light jacket in there. 6) Laptop pouch/sleeve inside rear large zippered compartment. A thick, large laptop would fit in this. My thin, 15" laptop floats around, so I usually slide a padfolio in with it. There's still room for something thin if needed. It's nicely padded and there's some foam at the bottom. This should be plenty of padding unless you plan on throwing your pack down with force with your gear in it. 7) I haven't used the mesh pockets on the sides. I think I'd like to trade at least one in for a zippered pocket. My gym backpack has 1 water bottle pocket and 1 zippered pocket, which I like. There's a lot I like about this backpack. It's well made and designed, so I give it 5 stars for that. If I had to pick again, I'd probably pick a smaller backpack with fewer pockets as noted above, only based on personal preference for how I use it. I'm not going to trade this in, but if it wears out then I'll have a better idea what to pick next time. I'm generally pretty satisfied with it. :-)

Could use more padding, but this has been a decent backpack for the price!
I have now owned this backpack for almost a year, and here is my full impression and review. I will cover everything from the materials, comfort, and durability to the functionality. I hope buyers will find this useful, as I have used this bag for school, traveling, and laptop storage. MATERIALS/DESIGN: I personally like the aesthetic of the backpack; the black cloth material is simple and clean looking, while the orange stitching adds subtle style and helps you tell your backpack apart from others. My only complaint is that the backpack could use more padding in back, since it is designed to carry a laptop, which can add some weight. DURABILITY: After putting this bag through its paces, and carrying a LOT of supplies and books day after day, there are virtually no signs of wear on the main material. All of the zippers have held up as well. My only problems has been that one of the zipper stops on the small device pocket broke off, so the zipper could come off. I fixed this very easily by sewing some nylon thread around the end. This has held up for six months and I can't even notice it! This backpack will last you a long time. STORAGE/FUNCTIONALITY: The number of pockets on this backpack is perfect. On the inside, there is a sizable padded laptop pouch that hold my 15.6" Asus gaming laptop, which isn't exactly thin! Next to that, there is a sleeve that is perfect for holding a tablet! The main area which contains the aforementioned pouches is large enough to hold a couple textbooks and/or binder, so most of my school materials for a day. Additionally, there THREE more storage areas perfect for holding books, laptop accessories, or really anything else! The smallest of the three has an organizer for pencils/pens/etc. On top of the backpack, there is a smaller pouch that will hold a cell phone, MP3 players, or other device. The sides of the backpack each have mesh pockets large enough for small water bottles. There are two adjustable straps on each side that can cinch the backpack together if you are carrying fewer item (OR you can use them as straps to attach other items). I give this backpack and overall 8.5/10. For the price, you can't really beat this! It has held up better than any backpack that I have owned. If you don't mind sacrificing a little comfort or having a name brand product, or need a better way to carry your mobile devices, I would recommend this as a first choice to anyone.

Good
I've been using this consistently for months and it's held up very well. It seems very durable and it has a lot of pockets to store things. I have broad shoulders so it's not the most comfortable to wear on your back but for a smaller person it would probably be perfect

[Update1 06/27] Fits my 17.3" Dell Precision M6600 (Sort Of)
Update 1 - 06/27 - Approximately one week after my purchase of this Backpack, I got an email from Amazon "Your purchase of the AmazonBasics Backpack for Laptops Up To 17-Inch comes with 6 months of FREE Unlimited Online Storage from Amazon Cloud Drive (a $29.99 value) " . Wow this was unexpected and a pleasant surprise as I did not read of this promotion anywhere in the description and it basically pays itself of the entire cost of the Backpack. I am not sure if this is a temporary or permanent promotion. Original Review : I purchased the AmazonBasics Backpack half expecting to return it as I was not entirely sure if it could fit my huge 17.3" Dell Precision M6600 Mobile workstation that I use for work . I mean this laptop is big, thick and heavy - It weighs in excess of 8 pounds and is measures 19.5" inches diagonal externally. But as you can see in my video that it has no issues swallowing my laptop with the least amount of shoehorning or protrusion - So I would declare this a fit , granted that the laptop will only fit in the main compartment outside the laptop sleeve. (see my video) Space, Build Quality & Comfort ------------------------------------------ - The backpack has tons of space and compartments (almost too many for my requirements) to carry anything you can think of. I carry mainly my office laptop, powerbank, stationery , towels, lunchbox, headphones, documents and the occasional tablet in it daily with plenty of room to spare - The material of the backpack is fairly good for its price but its certainly not Jansport good. - With all the stuff I carry around my backpack weighs in excess of 12 pounds. Even with this heavy weight I find it comfortable to wear on my shoulders with no unnecessary stress or fatigue points on my body - The shoulder straps seem to be holding up to the 12 pound weight fairly well so far. I will update if that changes in the long run - As you can see it has no issues fitting my 17.3" Dell Precision M6600 The Good ----------------- - Had loads of space and compartments to swallow anything you throw at it and is expandable further - Build quality is surprisingly good at this price point - Zippers glide smoothly - Good looking - Comfortable - Even weighing at 12 pounds after I put my stuff into it, I found it comfortable to wear on my shoulders. Its padded in the right places The Not So Good ------------------------- - The only minor issue I found so far was an aesthetic one - Because its designed to be expandable and carry so much stuff - If you dont put a lot of things in it , the front part collapses and looks weird and squishy (see my video) . I wish that Amazon would have provided it a more rigid structure - Laptops greater than 17 inches will not fit in the laptop sleeve - They will only fit outside it in the main compartment. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and it is really a great value for money option which fulfills my need of fitting my large laptop ,have sufficient space to carry other stuff like my lunchbox, chargers and still be comfortable to wear

So pleased with this bag!
I bought this laptop backpack because I have been spending 3 days of my week in Coffee Shoppe’s while my husband is working. He doesn’t work well at home so each day I have been packing up a cloth grocery bag with snacks, bottled water, my laptop, my kindle ect and going with him to spend the day in different coffee shops around my city. Lugging all my stuff around on the bus in a cloth grocery back was so difficult and I had been looking for a good back pack that wasn’t too expensive, but still good quality and that had plenty of room for all the stuff I need and bring with me. After searching for a while and seeing that even normal Jansport backpacks that aren’t designed to carry laptops were $50 or more I was getting discouraged until I came across this Gem! This Bag carries 2 large laptops with a special area for both, has a holder for my water bottle, several individual pockets for things like my keys, medications, and snacks. It has a built in wallet type area that will fit cell phones, pens, pencils, small notebooks. Plus 2 or 3 outer pockets on the bag itself for smaller items. One of my biggest worries when looking to buy was that the laptop would be slamming against my back while I wore it. But this bag has plenty of cushioning between the back and where the laptop is stored. This bag would work for Students in place of a laptop case, or could easily be used for hikers or campers. It is versatile and has cushioning on the shoulder/arm pads and a handle for comfortable holding and wearing. The material seems strong and put together well. For the price on this product it is so worth it in my opinion. Normal Backpacks with way less storage can go for so much money and I was able to get this for $25.29! My only real disappointment was that there were no options to personalize it to my taste. I didn’t get a color choice like you do with most back packs or laptop cases. This is a black back pack with small areas of orange threads. While Orange is not my favorite it is subtle enough that I was okay with not having an option on color. Overall the bag appears like a normal back pack would, with an affordable price and a variety of pockets and holders on the bag that make up for the lack of color options! I am so pleased with this purchase and so glad I decided to get it!

Good backpack, nice price
Very good backpack, and a bargain at the price. There are quite a few pockets to use, the quality of the pack is very good, and it’s comfortable to wear pretty much all day. I found it much better than the much more expensive Osprey bag I was considering.

Not good, not bad.
I don't know how I feel about this backpack. However, let me get into the specifics. I am a college student in their last semester. When my other high sierra backpack tore, I was devastated for two reasons: 1) I loved my backpack. I loved the design, the structure, and the pockets it had, and 2) as a college student with not much money this was a major blow to my finances. Now, onto the review. It fits my laptop. I have a 15.6" Lenovo laptop, and one of the reasons I bought this is because it was supposed to fit it. My laptop scratches the two curving sides of the backpack when I close it. If I had to put it in a sleeve, my laptop probably would not fit. Hence, the 17" claim can be put to rest: it would not fit a 17" laptop, unless you have remarkable cramming skills. I docked a star for this because I know it wouldn't fit as nicely (which it should as it's well below the 17" limit) with the sleeve on, which I intended to do during times of bad weather. Onto the zippers. The flaps that drape over the zippers are convenient and inconvenient. You can't open the bag very nicely while it's new, though I suspect the bag would probably stretch in time and the flaps will become more manageable. The zippers are nice quality, with one caveat: someone in a review said that it sounds like you're walking with a ton of change in your pocket. They're right. This backpack is noisy, but the zippers seem well made. My one fear is that the stitching for the zippers will come undone as it has for some other people -- if that begins to happen, I'll knock the backpack down another star. Now, onto my other big gripe with the bag: the space. As a college student, I put in my laptop, it's charger and a mouse, a one inch binder, a course packet, a tiny planner, a thin accordion folder organizer, and then filled the two spaces with pens, pencils, and all of your stationary needs. The bag looks full, very full. I won't be able to fit my lunch bag in it at all. There isn't very much space in this bag. My high sierra backpack could hold much more, which is saying something because it doesn't look near as bulky. And last: the water bottle holder. I have a Nalgene water bottle, which fit perfectly in my high sierra backpack (with room to spare for chapstick, the occasional pen, and even my wallet). The water bottle holder wouldn't hold a normal sized small water bottle, let alone my Nalgene one. It is, effectively, useless, unless I want to put pens and pencils in the bottle holder. The backpack seems well made, though, and it seems sturdy enough. I wanted something to hold my laptop, and I got it. I just don't know how I like it. I'll test it out for school tomorrow and if it feels off then I'll probably send it back. It's not great, but it fit everything I currently have along with my laptop. I would probably say that if it could fit more things like my lunchbox I wouldn't feel as disappointed. It isn't a bad backpack. And the price is fantastic. Will update as I keep it.

This backpack is my life.
I'm serious. I got this with a student discount when I started college, and it goes with me everywhere, with my entire life inside of it. The pockets are many, big, sturdy and legitimately functional. I think in the picture it showed entire binders fitting into the secondary pockets and I was skeptical about the physics of that, but somehow it works! It's not a huge bag at all, but somehow everything but the kitchen sink fits inside of it. The bag itself is very lightweight as well, despite having so many different compartments and being really sturdy. You can tell because the zippers are so "zippy" --they feel very smooth and withstand a lot of abuse being tugged at from weird angles without much protest. It's perfect because I can carry it around instead of a purse on light days, but then fill it with 3 binders, 2 text books, a laptop, a big journal, a million girl-things in the outter pocket, my wallet, my water bottle, my charging cords, my glasses, my lab-coat for bio, a sweater and my lunchbag. All with confidence that it won't fall apart, damage my fragile goods, or hurt my back. Because the back is reinforced for the computer compartment inside, it really does wonders when I'm lugging all my college gear around campus. ANY college student will tell you how important that is!!! I'm really really glad I picked this bag over the other ones I had in mind. The main drawback for me going in was its small size, but after this semester, when I realize how much it expanded that turned out to be a bonus! :)

I'm stuck in a time warp
Werkt goed. Amazon is wel zo clever om al 1 week nadat ik deze rugzak kocht al om een review te vragen. Of deze lang meegaat kan ik nu nog niet veel zeggen dus 😅... Of toch!

Quite impressive
This is one of those products that I thought about for a few days before finally deciding to take the plunge. I didn't need a new bag, but the bag I took to work (cycling) was just a little too small for my work clothes, laptop if I needed to go to a different office and other gym going paraphernalia. I saw this bag when having a spontaneous "I'll just have a look", the details seemed to suggest that it was bigger than my own and it really was inexpensive at £23.69 so I bought it to give it a go. It didn't look bigger, so I was a little disappointed, however I gave it a go, packing my things for work the night before and low and behold it held more with room to spare due to the sheer number of pockets. It's some kind of black magic, as it still doesn't look much bigger than my previous bag. I can fit a water proof bag with my towel and shower gel in, my work trousers, shirt, socks, belt and jumper, plus all my toiletries such as moisturiser, aftershave and spray and double plastic container for my protein and BCAA. I then have spare room for laptop, wireless keyboard and wireless mouse should I need them and even more room for anything else! Amazing amount of space really! Material wise, it's not the most premium materials used, but then this is less than £25.00 so you absolutely know it wouldn't be made out of Kevlar or high quality leather or something. That being said, the materials used are very well made and seem very sturdy. I've been using this bag practically every day for almost a month now, cycling back and forth from home to work in the wind and rain sometimes (OK all the time in the UK) and there is no sign of any wear and tear, only the a fold on the panel on the inside where the laptop would sit due to me stuffing everything in and making it stay that way! Mightly impressed with this bag and would highly recommend, even if you have more money to spend on a slightly nicer looking bag.
