Great quality image
Two items of importance to me. 1. Quality. This camera has way better quality than previous camera I had with similar price range. I'm not sure how image looks at night, but it looks very good day time. (Update, I'm satisfied with image at night) 2. Water proof. My previous camera only lasts so long with me going to the car wash on a regular basis. I'm not sure yet if those one will be better.(Update: I have no issues with water from car wash upline previous cameras) I must say, the location of camera is ideal for anyone with a hitch. You can point it down to see the hitch which is perfect to hook up anything to your hitch. For a 4 door full size pick up truck, the wire was long enough to reach the front from the rear number plate I may consider wireless option in future, as install takes a long time. Grid lines didn't work, not sure why. I get a blank screen when I switch to grid lines. Definitely recommend.

The connector is worth the price admission. Seriously.
PLEASE NOTE: Review of the transmitter follows this review of the camera! :) There is obviously a lot of rebranding going in the backup camera department here on Amazon, and believe me when I say I have tried many of them. This particular Auto-Vox unit stands out in multiple ways - so much so I felt compelled to post a review to help steer people this way and hopefully avoid the disappointment I've previously experienced. First, understand this is not a $500 backup camera. That said, its low price is quite deceptive - it's better than backup cameras costing several times as much. Trust me, I tried them too. Everything about this camera is thoughtful: The bracket has a rib for ridigity that others do not. The actual mount for the camera is just a piece of metal, whereas other cameras use a hinge. At first you'd think that makes it less functional BUT those hinged models are poorly assembled and vibrate loose over time, requiring constant adjustment or sometimes removal and tightening. Once you gently bend this bracket where you need it to be, it stays. But, here is the KEY ELEMENT that makes this assembly better: Auto Vox thoughtfully provides a tiny 4-pin connector to mate this camera to its wiring harness instead of using common RCA and DC jack connectors - that means if you're drilling you only need to drill a tiny hole (1/4" IIRC) instead of some massive hole to pass an RCA connector through. THAT'S HUGE. In terms of performance, I compared this camera against another slightly more expensive color camera and a SLEW of black and white cameras equipped with both IR LEDs and white LEDs for night vision. During the day, this camera at least as good and possibly better than more expensive color cameras, and tangibly better than the B&W cameras - adding color to the mix helps you spot obstacles more easily than fishing out detail in a B&W image. B&W is great for security cameras where you're sitting still watching things happen, but for backup cameras where you are looking for obstacles rather than motion, your eye identifies color much more quickly than shape. At night, the low-light sensitivity is totally adequate, perhaps not quite as good as more expensive color cameras but absolutely equal to ALL the LED-assisted B&W cameras I tested. It's worth mentioning that my application is a 32' long motorhome - this camera is mounted up near the roof to get a view of the full width of the vehicle, and even with just reverse lights 8' away from this camera the view at night is FINE. On a car, where the camera and the reverse lights are much closer together the view would likely be great. The wide viewing angle is legit - the motorhome is over 8' wide and I can see both ends of the rear bumper. That's a big deal for me, and in fact the entire reason I bought a camera. The rear mirrors are fine for broad positioning, but I can't see the first 6' behind the bumper. This camera fully solves that issue, allowing me to back right up to a wall or a pole without fear. For what it's worth, I tried this camera on the strength of Auto Vox's wireless transmitter, which I am also using. it was so good I threw their camera into the testing mix and I have zero regrets. It's just a very nice setup, the price makes it unbeatable. I will likely pick up another one of these to use on my 22' long Cadillac limo... which is probably even worse to back up due to tiny windows and mirrors! :) UPDATE: Kind of annoying that Amazon has linked the camera and the wireless transmitter into one product, so here's the score on the transmitter to go with my review of the camera: I have to admit right away that my application for this transmitter was not as intended. Power comes from a cigarette lighter which was not useful to me, so after verifying it worked I took it apart, sawed off the end, soldered wires onto the pads, and then installed it. The upside of this was that, while apart, I had the opportunity to check out the insides. Let me just say, this setup is FAR SUPERIOR to competitively priced ones. The packaging is superior, the PCB is assembled better, and it has proper internal shielding - most of the others are just slim boxes epoxied around surface mount components. It's not even a comparison. Additionally, the transmitter in this kit uses a real antenna rather than an inch long piece of wire hanging out. Yes, it takes up more space but the results are worth it. Most of the other kits required me to mount the pieces in specific spots to get a decent picture, but across a 32' long motorhome I was not able to upset this pair. I ended up with the transmitter mounted under the bed and the receiver mounted behind the TV in front - that's a solid 28' of airspace going through wood and an LCD with zero degradation. Completely stoked about it. Although I did not need it, the receiver even has a dedicated monitor trigger to switch inputs on your display automatically. Like the camera itself, this whole package is really thoughtful. Well done Auto Vox.

Awesome Deal!
This backup camera is an amazing deal, plain and simple. For $20, I could not be more impressed. This camera replaced a 10 year old Boyo VTL300 that I paid $150 for and which had gotten very foggy and hard to use. Honestly, this $20 camera blows that thing out of the water. For starters, the video quality far exceeded my expectations, both at day and at night. I don't see why anyone would need those LED lights on other backup cameras when this thing works so well without any LED's. Second, I love how inconspicuous it is. My previous backup camera was the license plate frame style, and due to its thickness, it obscured a lot of the plate. This thing is barely noticeable because the majority of it fits behind the plate. As others have mentioned, once it's mounted, it's very simple to bend the camera mount to point exactly where you desire, and it doesn't move once it's set. I also love that you have the option to turn on or off the distance markers/lines with a simple switch that is integrated into the power cable. I don't think I've noticed this feature in other cameras. I personally chose to keep the lines, and find them to be very helpful. The lines are pretty conservative as far as distance goes, meaning that even when an object starts to enter the red area, you still have about 2 feet of space before contact. I much prefer this conservative gauging, as it virtually ensures you don't hit the object behind you. Lastly, I loved that you have two different wires you can choose between for powering the camera; one at the radio itself and one near the camera. This allows you to power it via either the radio camera power wire (if applicable), or by splicing into the reverse light power wire (which is already at the back of the car near the camera). In my case, I have a 2010 Dodge Challenger with a Lockpick V3 that allows me to add a backup camera, so I could simply power the camera right at the radio. All in all, I don't see how you can go wrong with this camera. At $20, I'm actually considering buying a second one just to save in case this one ever dies. Hope this was helpful!

Great camera, AMAZING customer service!
Installed this camera into a 2003 Infiniti G35, using an aftermarket JVC deck as the monitor. The camera resolution is great, everything worked amazingly then suddenly the camera stopped working on me after two months of use. Whenever I put the vehicle into reverse, the screen would just show up with "no signal" so I double checked the wiring and everything was connected properly so I contacted the Auto-vox support to see if they could help me out and they promptly proceeded to rectify my situation. They provided me with a replacement unit and through a few tests, I found that the circuit board where the grid switch is located had become faulty. After replacing that, everything works great again! I can't say enough good things about this camera or the customer service provided by the company. I'll definitely be buying more of their cameras any time I need to add one to one of my vehicles.

Good camera for retrofitting a vehicle with minimal fuss.
Installed in my 2013 Nissan Xterra with a Pioneer headunit. Functionally works just fine. My only real gripe however minor is that the cable comes out directly behind the camera into the support bar, so no matter what you do you have to put a tight bend in it to go around the licence plate behind it if you want to hide as much cable as possible Since its designed to be mounted on the licence plate frame, it really should have come with a rubber grommet to pass through the the bumper since most people will have to drill through. I supplied my own to prevent chafing along with my own zip ties to finalize mounting. Running the signal cable can be a bit of a dilemma for some since it is not detachable from the power supply/switch box meaning you will have to run the cable from back of your vehicle to the front. In my case I had plenty of room, and only had to remove my seat bottoms and a couple brackets to be able to lift up the carpet enough to run the cable. Once I got it fished to the center console between the front seats I was home free, however, your mileage may vary. As far as power, I spliced into an existing tow-cable reverse light wire since it was right there by the bumper, but you could just as easily tap into one of your tail light reverse light wires on either side. I had enough extra I cut off a few feet and still looped it over on itself a couple times and secured with zip ties. Note that you will need to provide your own method of splicing into the wire, yet again something that was not included. The switch box allows you to enable or disable the guide lines. I turned them off with my unit since my headunit allows me to flip video and position my own virtual guide line overlays, but its nice to have a pre-defined option. Low light performance is serviceable, not particularly great, but you never want to go reversing through a parking lot at night all willy-nilly anyway. There appears to be a wire on the connector that is to send a signal when the camera is activated. This is probably for video monitors that do not properly detect an input signal. I did not need it in my case as the headunit switches to camera view when the vehicle is put in reverse anyway, so I just put electrical tape over it. Overall I would buy this camera again. Its one of those cheap-crap items that provides good value.
