Finally a knife sharpener that I'm happy with
Previously, I'd tried numerous sharpeners from small handheld "pull-through" styles to pocket sharpeners. Most of them were successful to an extent but it wasn't until I had a small pocket knife that would not sharpen, no matter what I tried and I also went on to blunt a relatively sharp chef's knife with a honing steel that I decided to do some proper research. After watching a few YouTube videos I decided that a proper whetstone was the way to go. I also learnt that honing steels don't sharpen knives. Not wanting to over spend on something I had no idea would work I opted for the Kunqun 1000-6000. On receiving the item I was pleasantly surprised by the included accessories for the relatively low price including a nice holder made of what appears to me bamboo. Similar to the style of household decorations which usually sell for the same price as this whole sharpening kit. So I'm happy with that. My first attempt successfully sharpened the knife which was previously unsharpenible albeit with an uneven bevel (my fault) and my second attempt with another knife was also successful (judging by my sliced skin on my fingers I used when testing an edge's sharpeness.) Both only took about 20-30 minutes. I have a strange aversion for having knives which are too sharp (weird purchase given that fact) but probably more down to something someone told me many years ago about sharp knives holding their edge for less time. I've no doubt if I sat down, and practised more, this stone would easily sharpen all my knives to a razor's edge. For the price this is great value for money. Do yourself a favour and invest in a proper whetstone instead of the (more expensive) kitchen gadgets you usually see advertised. There's also the added benefit that I find sharpening knives using a stone to be somewhat satisfying and therapeutic.

Effective and easy to use
First impressions are that it's very sturdy. It doesn't shift about while trying to sharpen and the guide is really helpful for first-timers. I love that the different coarsenesses are colour coded, but I would suggest a different colour, perhaps grey as I'd like to have it out on display but it's always covered in grey marks from sharpening and doesn't clean as well as I'd like. Otherwise, it sharpens well, and flattening stone is a great feature.

It's definitley worth the money
4 Knives, 1 hour, absolute begginers? Now we have 4 knives that can cut paper perfectly. It did exactly what we expected it to, and performed to the best of our expectations. Everything we ordered arrived safely packaged and completley un-damaged from transport. Each stone was individually wrapped in bubble wrap and came our clean and smooth, ready to be used immediatley. There are no instructions on how to sharpen your knives, however there is a handy booklet on looking after the whetstone itself, and plenty of videos on your chosen streaming site to learn how to sharpen your knives. It's a very satisfying thing to use, and even more enjoyable when your knives are finally able to cut instead of being fancy ornaments in a drawer.

New life for my knives
Finally found the right sharpener for my kitchen knives. I have been using a two stage grinder sharpener for the past three years and I have never been satisfied. It has taken me a few attempts with this whetstone to get a nice sharp edge on two of my favourite knives but I think I am getting the hang of it I think that with practice and patience I should achieve near perfect sharpness. I would echo other reviewers advice to go on to you tube and look at a number of videos to find the technique that suits you best, the one that worked for me was common mistakes when sharpening with a whetstone. Great product at a great price.

Excellent stone for a fraction of the price of others
Was considering a £150 Japanese santoku knife when I watched a video on maintaining them with a whetstone. I thought I'd have a crack at sharpening my decent German knives (had them for 10 years) which I couldn't get sharp with an old oilstone instead. Had a good shop around for a compromise between an £80 Japanese stone and cheap nasty forgeries. This caught my eye and the reviews were good. And what a bargain! Keep it wet, keep blades at constant angle (20 degrees for Western steel), watch a video if not sure. I spent 90 minutes on 6 different knives and thoroughly enjoyed it. Blades are razor now, and better than I've ever known them. I only anticipate using this occasionally for top ups, with a steel for keeping them in tip top condition between use. Awesome!

Has anyone else noticed or can relate to having this issue or is it just a me problem?…
Before I start I rarely write reviews unless I feel they’re warranted and hear in mind I’ve still given this 4 stars… Such a small design flaw that takes it from being potentially near perfection and knocks it down to effective once you problem solve it yourself THE NON SLIP AINT NON SLIPPING! It’s supposed to be but isn’t very effective even less so when you sprinkle some water on the stone as you go 🫤 I would say that this is the only flaw but it’s an annoying one!… who wants to be sliding around the place while sharpening knives?! After the third use and treble that number of attempts to MacGyver my way through, in the end I bought a non slip mat (the kind that goes under kiddies plates) that didn’t cost the earth but done the job so I could do the job point is that I shouldn’t of needed to I hope the manufacturer reads these because it’s a minor detail that wouldn’t cost them the earth to source better materials or drive up the price for doing so, it would still work out cheaper than having to buy what I bought, they really need to improve on it it lets down a really good product As I said it might just be me but If it isn’t then be mindful that you may well need to purchase something extra to get the best (and safest) use from it if you don’t already have something that can do the job BUT…. The whetstone itself is brilliant.

Nice stone Which sharpens well.
Nice stone well packaged with accessories such as the bamboo holder and rubber non slip frames to hold the stone and stone flattener. I’m new to using Waterstones but just tried it out on my plane iron and have a nice sharp cutting edge after honing. Been using diamond and oil stones but this does the job for what I want it to do. Just make sure the stone has been soaked for around 30 mins before use and keep the stone flat if you are using for chisels, plane irons or similar.

Google a few Pro's showing how they use the stones for a 1st class result.
Brilliant kit. I had been frustrated for a while that the 2 Japanese KIN knives I have had lost their super sharpness and foolishly tried to get the edge back on them using a diamond Steel, big mistake. I have an oil stone but it gets a bit messy and best kept for DIY and gardening tools. The Kunqun 1000/6000 was the option I went for as it is recommended by KIN [theirs sells at £70, no extras](many celebrity Chefs use these knives, it was James Martin who led us to them at a BBC food show in Glasgow many moons ago). My purchase came with an angle guide and levelling stone, I tried the guide but found it much easier doing it by hand. It certainly pays to watch a few chefs showing how they do it on YouTube, all slightly different, but I found keeping the angle correct and only apply pressure dragging the blade back, not when pushing works great. Now cuts single hairs (much to my wife's dismay!) and slices paper with ease. Ninja sharp. Excellent value for money and super sharp knives again. Sushi chef sharpness is such a pleasure.
