Worked well for us, fast and fun

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2010*

I ordered this and the slalom sled from mountain boy (via amazon). I also picked up the sled pad for the ultimate flyer (which I recommend). We took them out today for the first time. Hill we went on is good sized and well used. Temps were in the mid 20's. Had the old plastic saucer with as well as one of the newer type foam sled which sell for about 30 bucks. The ultimate flyer worked great (I am 6'3" 215) for me, although I am a little top heavy and sitting on it got a little tipsy at speed, on my stomach worked great. The kids like it, mine are a little young to steer it but it worked well and two could go at once. I cannot even fit on the smaller sleds so this was great and more controllable then a tobagan. It seemed to hold up well and to be a bit better built then the slalom sled. The slalom was great on the hard packed snow and may have been a bit better then the fyer, but the center pivot started to loosen right away and the front wood chipped on run number two so it got retired to the car and I will maybe have to lock-tite the center screw before the next outing. Flyer looks nicer with the side rails and I am happy with it. I don't see why it won't last for some time but if I can get a few years of good use from it that would be great. These are not "heirloom" pieces and if you buy them expecting that for 80-100 you will be disappointed. They do look good though, work well, and compared to some of the plastic junk out there in the 30-50 dollar range, probably worth the little extra especially if you are an adult or want to put two kids on the sled. So the ultimate flyer I am giving a 5 star rating. The slalom I know is fixable but when I review that one I am knocking a point off for the early retirement from the hill today.

    beautiful but falls apart

*by A***E on Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2011*

This sled made a beautiful addition to our Christmas morning, but by Christmas afternoon the back had come un-attached. Fortunately my kids also received Swiss Army knives for Christmas and we unscrewed the top part and reattached the back half, but it only stays attached for a few times down the hill, even after going home and reattaching it with the proper tools. The few times it works are lots of fun, but not worth having to cut short our sledding adventures each time. If there were some sort of fix that would keep the two pieces bolted together even while steering, I'd change my rating in a heartbeat to five stars because it races down hill in both powdery and packed snow, but seeing my kids fall apart because they are only going to be able to sled down hill a couple of times after spending 45 minutes packing into our snow gear is too much hassle for me.We found the handle easy to attach and were grateful for the included screwdriver, which would have been hard to locate in the midst of Christmas Eve chaos- just wish the sled stayed together.

This is the best sled EVER!

*by J***S on Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2009*

We received this sled for Christmas and just took it out for its maiden voyage today. WOW, is it fast! We had to drag our feet at times to slow down. It took a few runs to get used to and was mostly ridden by an adult and child together. Keep in mind, you need to make sure you have some weight in front to steer -- but it is very easy to steer if you keep this in mind. I am back on Amazon tonight to order the pad now. We were slipping off too easily and I think this will help. We highly recommend this beautiful, functional, fast sled to every family! I should also mention that my husband liked all the attention we got for having the coolest sled on the hill!
