I'm not a very large person and am borderline minimum recommended weight for this size Axis. Bought the 120 in case my older boys wanted to borrow it. Would recommend the 10 foot version for someone my size. I gave this 4 stars because it is rather challenging to control with the skeg up, though, this might be attributed to how light I am too. This is a fun kayak to paddle but a wind gust on the river did put me in a fallen tree. The dry storage is fantastic but will be looking into a way to weight the bulk a little to help compensate for my lack of weight, bulk rides a bit higher on the water. Fun in choppier water. Averall, love my Axis and getting A LOT of use out of it!

Great crossover boat for lakes and Class II moving water; skeg/rudder and bow design are key
I have a 2014 model Axis 12.0 in lava color scheme and have been very pleased with it. Kayak holds me comfortably at 6'1" and 240 lbs; at that weight and with the normal dry-bag gear I still have a good 8" of freeboard above the waterline. I've used this on both lakes and rivers, and it does work well in both types of water; the drop down skeg (fixed stern rudder that you can raise and lower by rope from the seat) is fantastic on open water with wind - once you drop the skeg you can feel a noticeable difference in how it tracks and how few course correction strokes you have to make. On river water, the boat does well as long as you don't get too bold - Class II is definitely doable and I've inadvertently gotten in to Class II+-III water and done pretty well other than taking on water due to lack of a skirt. This is a big boat, so maneuverability in fast water is something you have to think about ahead of time as you pick your track. Seat is comfortable, foot blocks are at a good angle and lots of adjustment available. Hard to beat this one for the price, quality and crossover capabilities.
