The media could not be loaded. My kittens had this toy donated to them at the shelter. They loved it so much the volunteers brought it to the pet store where they were setting up adoptions. They were so enthralled by it, we had to turn it off just to get to know them. The pet store didn’t have it so we had to run to Amazon. They have the attention span of a golf fish, but this keeps them entertained consistently. It’s small, so it can fit in small spaces. The butterfly looks as realistic as a toy can. It moves well, it just needs a little momentum sometimes. I only wish it had 2 butterflies so both my kittens didn’t fight over it.

I got 2 similar "butterfly" toys for the kitties, and they love both. This is a simpler one but larger than the other one I got for them. As with these toys, the butterfly jiggles the entire time, and goes around in a circle to amuse the kitties, and they're hooked.It's simple operation, and turns on/off easily with a quick gentle tap of the foot on the switch.It works fine with NiMH cells (1.2V vs 1.5V alkaleaks), so you can use them and not have to worry about it getting ruined by leaky cells. Plus, they're rechargeable, so you're not throwing away cash on disposable cells.

My cats love this toy, especially how the cover spins around. I would have given this five stars. However, the yellow tail spins on a thin wire that easily snaps when a cat sits on it or pins it. Whereas the butterfly can be replaced, there is no replacement for the spinning yellow feather. So, I must give it three stars for the lack of durability, broken after two weeks, and replacement parts.

It is a little loud when it’s on but it’s definitely fun for her and keeps her entertained. It is the perfect size and it’s so cute. I wish they made other replacements like a bird or some other stuff would be awesome!

I originally ordered (2) of these back in June 2022. Per the original 5-star review below, the cats LOVED these fanatically and both of the toys lasted nearly 3 years of heavy use! I only had to replace the Butterfly Wands when the butterflies became too ragged to “fly;” they were sturdy and they lasted a long time too (also All For Paws brand).Fortunately I had (2) identical replacement units on hand for when the original units eventually gave-out. I had purchased extras so the girls would never be without their favorite toy.Unfortunately the newer versions ARE NOT of the same QUALITY. Both of them, plus a 3rd unit I purchased a couple weeks ago, all from the same company, BROKE within the first week of use … in potentially dangerous ways. [see photos]I only used to allow play with automated toys while someone was present, due to many reviews of “imports” causing pet injury. But this specific toy/brand had a 2.5 year track record with us, so I did not monitor when I set out the new ones … MISTAKE.The 1st unit’s BUTTERFLY securing-mechanism broke apart within the first couple days, leaving small parts on the floor and exposing the metal hook which secures the butterfly. The butterfly had also separated — top layer peeled away from the bottom layer (earlier butterflies did not have this issue and were much sturdier). So I replaced the Butterfly Wand with one of the wands included, hoping this was just a one-off … but the same thing happened a few days later! I could only pray that neither cat ingested any of the pieces. I get-it that the butterflies get chomped-on a lot, but this never happened with any of the many AFP Butterfly Wands from our 2022 purchase.Our younger cat was injured when the wand broke. She was playing with the butterfly as usual, but this time the butterfly securing-mechanism broke apart. I noticed the bright-red cut on her lip/chin first thing; it must’ve been painful for her to eat/drink that week as her gums were likely injured as well. She now has a SCAR from the center of her lower lip down her chin, the width of the thin metal Butterfly Wand. Since she has white fur, the scar is a visible reminder of her playtime gone bad (which prompted this post).With that unit broken, I opened the 2nd and 3rd units. They too broke within the first week of play, but in a different way … each of the METAL Butterfly Wands SHEARED-OFF at the base! The sheared-off fallen wands, now propped-up by toy’s base, could have severely injured children and/or pets (long thin metal rod poking into eyes, ears, nose, etc.). I replaced one of the Butterfly Wands with one of the included spares, hoping this too had just been a one-off; but within days it too had completely sheared-off at the base!!!IN SUMMARY: Based on my experience, the large base of all (3) newer units had been running strong and without issue and still seemed of high quality … all of our issues were with the included Butterfly WANDS. Is a flimsier cheaper fabric and metal being used? Are wands being outsourced to an inferior 3rd party? I only know the wand issues we recently experienced had never been an issue with the two original AFP units and AFP Replacement Wands purchased in June 2022 which made it through nearly three years of heavy use without issue.I hope the company reads their reviews and addresses any issues. The cats are going crazy calling for this favorite toy, but I’d rather be safe than sorry again — one scar is enough. I’m just grateful none of the small parts were ingested.June 2022:“100 PAWS-UP” CAT LOVES THIS! DURABLE, LONG LASTINGFirst, BUY THIS MODEL NOT the one from the other vendor with on/off switch on bottom of the unit; you want the on/off switch on TOP of the unit. They look identical except for location of the switch … but there’s a BIG difference in performance. That one had poor reviews; this one is tested awesome )on/off switch on top)!Gracie has been playing w-this for HOURS EVERY DAY since getting this a month ago. I even join in, batting it back and forth with her. It’s been a wonderful bonding experience :-)This model LASTS A LONG TIME. She’s had it about a month and I haven’t had to change the battery OR the butterfly yet! Very DURABLE. She plays several hours a day every day; and she’s no lightweight: it gets batted, sat-on, pounced-on, chewed, even batted by humans!I even BOUGHT HER AN ADD’L UNIT so she has one on both 1st & 2nd floors … I got tired of running the toy up and down the steps, as she’d eventually cry if the toy wasn’t around for her to play with (and we never want a sad kitty).Second, per reviews only ONE BRAND of BUTTERFLIES WORK with this unit so buy them WITH 1st ORDER. Do not wait until you need it or kitty cat may become vocal until toy is up and running again (like my cat). Keep some on-hand.These butterflies are VERY LIFELIKE and are WORTH THE PRICE — your cat gets the full predator / prey experience: these move like, sound like, and (as they flutter) feel like real live prey.[NOTE: IF butterfly DOES NOT FLUTTER its likely due to wire being angled too high; this will also cause it to fly too high, too FAST, and cat may lose interest. Hard hits may also throw it off.][EZ FIX: With unit off, use finger to gently push-down on wire near the base; wire will appear somewhat parallel to floor.]Turn on and Butterfly WILL FLUTTER just above ground level; it will move, feel and sound JUST LIKE REAL PREY! At least to me it did — it made my stomach queezy as it fluttered in my palms, felt like a real live bug 🤮.]The ONLY DOWNSIDE, which would have been a deal-breaker had Gracie not loved this toy more than anything else in the world: there is NO MOTION SENSOR. This toy exceeded our expectations by far. Gracie has so much fun chasing and catching that she doesn’t realize those hours and hours of ‘play’ every day are actually exercise; exercise in which SHE chooses to engage. Nothing forced, all her choice :-)This is a FANTASTIC product for exercise and play; alone or with human family. Gracie and I give this (AND the recommended replacement butterflies) a hundred PAWS UP 🐾
