Mortar Gun w/Black & Decker DR250 3/8" Drill

Next summer I will have a project repointing a foundation so this will come in handy, but right now I needed to fill 3/4" conduit tubes with concrete. After trying several methods I start to think about a morter bag, then while searching Amazon found this. It worked very well as long as the tube was first lubricated with water and the tube pointed slightly downhill. You wouldn't expect this type of tool to become a concrete pumper. But for this use it worked very well and I can foresee how much easier the repointing task in front of me will be.

The way they rigged the drill up to the hopper is just horrible they cut a brand new drill and just jerry-rig it very cheap very unsatisfied I could have bought a brand new drill and did the same damn thing just cheap made very cheap not worth the money at all

the tool arrived ready to go right out of the box. It performed as expected . It is the best mortar application tool I have used. It replaced an unreliable partner.

Tuckpointer for thirty years, I will never go back to the manual way of mortar replacement. This machine is tough and durable and works like a charm. Mortar placement is neat and clean, production increases, turns an amateur into a competent pointer in the first hour of use. Getting behind pipes and overhead work is more efficently accomplished. Lifts are a waste of time and money, this machine places mortar from back to front thus avoiding voids. Alas we tuckpointers are not allowed to use this on some jobs, (i.e.) schools, municipal and other jobs that demand the old fashioned way of lifts, which is kinda nutty because of the way the gun injects the mortar into the joint it totally fills deep voids that are difficult to manually fill with a backfiller, and as we tuckpointers know, when the inspector isn’t watching we don’t do lifts that often.

When I first started using this...I was not quite sure I liked it. It dripped all over the stone. But of course I didn't read the directions and didn't notice that I had lost the alan wrench on the front. All the alan wrench does is hold the front nozzle on. And it keeps it from dripping. I also figured out that it runs a bit better when the mortar is pretty thick. And it is much thicker than I would ever be able to handle through a bag. I also do not use the lid. I run the drill full blast and move fast. When it gets low, you grab the scooper that comes with it and scoop in a few scoops of mortar. I wear rubber gloves and pat the mortar in a bit as I am using it...which seems to make it flow faster when the mix is a bit thick. Bottom line...once I figured out all that...this thing is simple and so, so, so much faster than I ever achieved with a bag. Just a guess...I can move at least 4 times faster with this than a bag. And that is not exaggerating. Quite honestly...if you take into account the low hassle (no filling bags, you can mix a big batch of mortar because you can move fast, thicker mix...which means almost no mess, etc, etc)...I can do so much more with little hassle. So to summarize...it was a bit of a learning curve, but once I figured it out...I freaking love it. Background...I have a large stone house with stone outbuildings. I have a contracting background and I am pretty handy. I have been renovating and repointing all the building in and out for years. This has made it much easier.

When it comes down to speeding up repointing, this gun is where it's at. Only stubborn, old school masons will prefer a bag when you have over 50 square feet to tackle. Make sure the mortar you use is mixed well. Conproco Pro Masonry type S and N work beautifully, but I'd pass in any Home Depot product; the masonry mix tends to have random lil rocks in there...and that's no good for this machine. Awkward if you have weird angles to fill, but any other situation, this bad boy works like a charm. Work smarter and faster.

Doing landmark restoration on 150 year old landmark building in Tribecca, NYC tried to use it on stone work in existing window wells does not work well at all. ( would like to return) Pete. M.
