A wonderful love story. I only gave it 4 stars because the character Alice was a little annoying. But overall the story was beautiful.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was just great historical fiction taking place in Poland during World War 1. Alternated between past and present. Deep messages about family, ancestry, and the connections that bond us. Themes included sacrifice, resilience, and kindness.Very well written and everything about this book was amazing.

I have always been curious about holocaust. This book is the most real vision of that time I have ever read, and I have read many. It led me through a journey of anger, tears, heartbreak, and hope. And a new understanding of what a heroism is. I will never forget this book. And it will be on my reread list. A rare thing for me.

One of the best war time novels I've read. The past and present storylines are expertly woven together to tell this incredible story of how love and hope can conquer all evil.

Good use of story of individuals to tell Poland’s story during Nazi control. I found the great love a bit over whelming and unrealistic but could imagine two young people who shared such tragedies being loyal to each other. I just couldn’t buy that it wasn’t a true marriage after 60 plus years.
