Exceeded Expectations
I didn't give much hope for this little thing to actually work on my sewing scissors, but after finally figuring out how to use it, it gave amazing results. I have 3 pairs of sewing scissors from various scissor companies. All are working like new again! It seems like you should be able to put both top and bottom blades on the sharpener at the same time and draw towards you, but it will not work that way. I found focusing on just the bottom or the top blade alone worked best. Keep the scissors steady and swipe the sharpening pick back and forth on the blade of focus. Allows you to get a lot of swipes in quickly!

What a nifty little tool
I didn't have high hopes for this guitar pick-looking thing that only cost a few bucks. But it really did sharpen my scissors, something they've been needing for years. Every home should have one of these.

Minor improvement on some
The first thing you have to understand is, like all cutting blades, not all scissors blades are sharpened at the same angle. This was easy to use with and did make minor improvements after about 50 strokes to the thin bladed plastic handled scissors at the top of the picture (next to the green check marks) but they're far from being like new.It did no good at all and/or couldn't be used due to blade width on the three pairs at the bottom with red Xs. In fact, the medical scissors (bottom right w/shortest blades/longest handle) ended up worse. I'm not going to return it, but I wouldnt buy it again. I think my sharpening stone is as easy to use (which is: not very easy) and gives a better result.I think this would work on, or the best use of this tool is to maintain the edge on Fiskars brand sewing shears because you know the grinding angle is the same. You know, the ones that look like the top sets in my picture except with orange handles. However, the best way to keep scissors sharp is to use your scissors smart, so you dont need to sharpen them. Have a dedicated pair for various materials. Paper, believe it or not, quickly dulls blades, even though it feels very easy to cut even with dull blades- so never use your good scissors on paper, keep the worn pairs for that. Fabrics will nearly never dull sewing scissors, so keep a dedicated pair and resist the urge to reach for those to open mail or wrap gifts or do craft projects other than cutting fabric. Sequins and anything metalis or glittery will also rapidly dull blades, so never cut those with your good shears.

NOT FOR LEFT HANDED SCISSORS - Hidden Print on Site
I have used left handed scissors for years. I had forgotten that 40 years ago they didn't exist.Fisckars has also forgot.... about it's Left Handed users. I received my item last week & just now got around to sharpening my scissors. I opened the package & then looked for directions on the back because they are not self explanatory. There it states - Not for Left Handed, seratated, razors edge or pinking shears or scissors.I look on the Amazon Item site and after looking & looking, I finally found a hidden note that these were for just plain, straight edge Right Handed Scissors.I THREW THE ITEM IN THE TRASH SINCE I ONLY OWN LEFT HANDED SCISSORS. The childhood feelings of not being good enough because I am Left Handed tried to creep in but luckily thru the years I have become a proud, strong Lefty. I don't need the business if they want to make my life difficult or more expensive because I was born Left Handed.I will look elsewhere to find a sharpener. If I am unsuccessful, I will by new scissors BUT I WILL NOT BUY FISKARS BRAND.Will try using some sandpaper cuts for now on my Lefty cutting tools.

Didn't work at first...
.. and I actually thought I might have ruined my Fiskar scissors, they felt duller after I tried to sharpen them. So, I ran over there and started reading all the reviews, and a few people described exactly how they got it to work for them. And I realized... I simply hadn't done it enough times! I had run the blades through maybe 3 times, then tried to cut a piece of fabric, and it simply slipped between the blades. (I should mention here that these scissors are actually over 20 years old and have NEVER been used on fabric, I used to be a heavy duty paper crafter!) After reading the reviews, and grabbed that sharpener and my abused scissors and went to work. I counted each stroke, at 15 I tried them... they cut through the fabric (a small piece of an old sheet), but not quite perfectly... so on to another 10 strokes. And those babies are as sharp as when I bought them, if not sharper! I could now use them for fabric, but I have a "good" pair of scissors for my fabric use, so these will stay paper scissors for cutting patterns. But as for the sharpener? It works WONDERFULLY!!! These scissors were EXTREMELY dull, bending paper rather than cutting it... and now they cut fabric! WITHOUT expensive sharpening services. Yep, very happy with this little devil! It was a great purchase, was priced well, and it WORKS!
