I've had two of these, its a frustrating piece of kit. I use it all the time for light painting interiors and exteriors, the results are great, lovely soft adjustable light and you can just screw a 80B to it for natural light. The problem is, it just does not feel like a professional piece of kit. The plastic battery enclosure is badly designed, I have to tape it to stop the battery popping out. I leave it on its side when I'm not using it because its top heavy and can fall over and break if you don't place it upright carefully. Doesn't fit snugly into a camera bag and for its size you would expect more power. I'm confused as to why there is nothing else on the market to compare this too? Maybe thats why its so expensive....Its great for video too, the light is soft enough to light a person with no diffusion. Needs an upgrade: more power, better build, longer battery life, and weather proofing. Now that would be worth the price tag. Review: Product doesn't charge with the AC adapter sent. When ... - Product doesn't charge with the AC adapter sent. When We borrowed a friends hoers was albeit to charger it. It was ws resent a new AC adapter and STILL DOESNT WORK! I have a 700.00 paper weight!

I like it.
I really love this light. The battery is a bit heavy for the door so it pops off easily. I have to keep tape on it to keep it in, but other than that, I've really loved it. I use it for video and photo and the portability and versatility is amazing. It's intensely warm, but I like warm images. In daylight it definitely goes very warm and unless you want that look, you'll want a balancing filter. It's more powerful than the IceLights, but the light isn't quite as soft without diffusion. I like that you can pop it up into an umbrella or whatever if you don't want the intensely round shape it creates. Really, it's a great light. I feel like I've been waiting for a product like this for a long time. The snoot is a dream come true. It is so precise and you can snoot it down to just hit the face of your subject or whatever. I can't speak more highly of it. As far as LED/hot lights go, it's the best out there right now.

The best video light in the market
The best video light in the market .it can spray up to 30 feet ,there is nothing on the market . The ice light can only go 5 feet then it's useless .the Lowel GL1 is not cheap because it will do everything you want in a LED .Save up your money ,this product will last you a life time.

GREAT LIGHT FOR WEDDING AND EVENT SHOOTING
Ok, initally I thought $700 for a LED torchlight is indeed quite pricey. At this stage of my wedding photog career, I am still using 8 flashes (SB700 and SB910)for all my shoots (no studio lights and on location battery). In the broader scope of things, I thought if I can replace 2-3 flashes with this light then it's actually pretty ok price wise. So I decided to give it a try. It's specifically designed for weddings I believe, color temp at 3000k that matches most tungsten lighted locations. The coolest thing about it is probably the ability to give the quality of the light from flood to spot. The battery, according to Lowel (or Tiffen), can last 1 hour in full power. To fully charge it takes about 3 hours. A spare battery is about $130 or so. The light has decent quality, even though parts of it feel pretty plasticky. But I am actually ok with it because that cuts down the weight. This light looks like a power drill, but it weighs nothing like one. Unlike other reviews, this light is actually very light for us. The heaviest bit is always going to be the battery. But given we constantly have a couple of nikon D4 on our bodies with pro lenses, this light is very light in comparison. It's very easy to use, and we find it very convenient in weddings when we are short of time and run out of people or just couldnt go run and setup the flashes with triggers and lightstands right away. There are a few times when the venue dim the lights to total darkness and when we felt helpless with the D4 even at 6400 ISO, we immediately have the assistant take it out and spot it on the couple right away. We are very pleased with the dramatic spot effect this light produces. Overall, this light is a great addition to our lighting setups. Will we rely on it all the time? Probably not, but when we need it it serves great purpose. And Lowel / Tiffen is definitely a company that stands behind their product. I have a question/issue with the charger, and after a few emails they sent out another one right away. Very good customer service and The thing you might want to look out for is the heavy battery is clipped into place onto the hotlight by plastic, so I imagine overtime it's going to give. At that point in time, you probably want to tape it or velcro it to prevent the battery from flying out. For that reason, I have a bag for the light rather than hanging it on my belt like a power tool. Another thing is the clear lens cover on the front of the light is plastic, and scratches easily. It also has tiny grooves that traps dust, not sure why it's designed that way. But since this is not a lens it probably shouldnt bother anyone. It takes a 82mm filter which you can get in a different color to balance out the tungsten, but I dont use that at all because this light is too weak for daylight usage. In the day you are probably better off with reflectors, flashes or softboxes etc. This light really shines at night, no pun intended. When the light is powered on, you can hear the cooling fan at the back of the light to keep the unit cool. The sound is very faint, but you can hear it, probably not going to be an issue at the ceremony. In dark places, this light can get glare-y so please inform the couple ahead of time that you are going to spot them. You also have the ability to lock the light and its power output, so you can leave it on a table without assistant. It also has tripod mounting at the base, so you can put it on tripod or lightstand, which can be handy at times (it comes with AC power so you can plug it and put it on a lightstand as long as the plug is close enough). A few times I left it in places to spot the couple while I shoot, while my assistant is busy so that worked out pretty well. The power adjustment dial knob is really cheap feeling though, it just spins around really freely without any locks, another downside of this light. Yep so you are paying for an innovative product that has features that work awesome for event photographers, and the good customer service will give you a peace of mind. I have yet to use it long enough to know how well the battery will retain its juice, so we will see.
