My training just got real. AWESOME.
I saw a lot of trainers like this asking for a much higher price. I had my doubts of what I'd be receiving but this thing is is rock-solid. I'm taking a Filipino Martial Art called Kali and it has a lot of knife training in it. We have plastic or wooden trainers but I wanted something with true weight to practice as realistically as possible. To that end I also wanted to be able to practice drawing and readying a folding knife. I thought the lock might turn out to be like crap but this thing locks super solid and feels good and heavy (a little heavier than a regular knife would be since its un-sharpened). I don't usually buy Kershaw, but if its anything like their trainers, I'm probably going to go for the real thing. This knife is going to stand the test of time and enhance my training big time. Can't wait to show my sifu.

Outstanding trainer, and not just for the budget.
Pros: Inexpensive. Exactly like the Kershaw 6034 Kershaw 6034 Emerson Designed CQC-6K Knife in weight and feel. Differently colored so it's recognizable as a training tool. Surprisingly strong frame lock. Cons: Main screw comes loose occasionally. Fantastic, durable, inexpensive trainer. Deployment of a knife is usually hard to do in a self defense situation. The Wave feature makes accessing your weapon so much easier, and the Kershaw trainer makes learning it much safer. Standing around by your self could be a good way to familiarize yourself with weapon access, but utilizing this trainer and a training partner, you are able to pressure test your skills, and improve them safely and effectively. I've purchased two personally, and encouraged my students to do the same.

good trainer but the clip isn' really reversible
They drilled holes for the clip on the other side of the handle, for left handed deployment from the pocket for left handed people, but you can't actually attach the screws. no threading, they never tapped the holes, the screws have nothing to bite onto. I have two of these and both have the same unfortunate issue, so it's not an accident. the holes either need built back up and then tapped, or need slightly bigger screws. It's a bigger issue with this knife than with others because it's meant to deploy from the pocket, and being clipped properly to the pocket is a key factor that enables that to happen. For people who are doing left handed work, or want to put an aftermarket retaining ring on their trainer and set it up for a karambit draw and deploy, this knife's just no good. If that's not you? This is good gear, but given that the knife is marketed as having a reversible clip and clearly doesn't have one, I have to take off a star.

Perfect trainer without breaking the bank
This is a perfect trainer for martial arts or teaching someone how to use a pocket knife. And, it's $30, versus $130, so it isn't cost prohibitive. As a bonus, you can get the same Kershaw/Emerson with a live blade. An excellent, affordable solution.

Quality Trainer, Safe for Sparring
The quality and sturdiness of this trainer is unmatched. I own both the trainer and the live 3.2" emerson wave knife - there is very little difference between the two. I've used this trainer in a series of edged weapons overview courses, putting it through some fairly vigorous prssure on the folding and locking mechanism. The blade itself is naturally heavier than the real-deal knife, but the difference is negligable and expected. The point is not sharp enough to cause any serious impact injury to areas exposed outside of standard sparring PPE (i.e. eye glasses, sparring helmet with face shield). The emerson wave mechanism works based on clip orientation and is extremely easy to manipulate regardless of pocket clip orientation. This trainer should be mor expensive for the value it brings to the table.

Can't argue with utility
What is it you want to do? Train in knife fighting? Check. Figure out how to do all those fancy flips and spins Neeves does with his knives? Check. Want a realistic simile of a real folding knife to do all that? Check. The action is a little stiff, but this is a trainer, so who cares? Otherwise, it's about as realistic as you can get without worrying about bleeding out. Oooh.. that rhymes! The only negative would be the price, but after all, you're basically paying for a real knife with a fake blade, so... I get it. I'm very happy with it personally.

This is a must have trainer!!!!
I can say without hesitation this is a must have trainer for anyone, not just those purchasing a Kershaw/Emerson, a full on combat grade ZT or the original hard use Emerson brand blade. . I appreciate and use/carry several quality makes of edged tools & Kershaw/ZT was the right choice for this collaboration .....High Quality and Affordability Is their trademark and Needless to say when I saw this trainer I jumped at the chance to abuse it !! I am a multi-discipline combatives trainer and have trained with Sir Ernest himself and have to say this trainer is just as sturdy as the Emerson trainers for normal instruction and wave training at a fraction of the cost. Get one!!! —Please train responsibly. These are blunted metal blades and can and will cause injury during training—
