I have not tried it with formerly internal HDDs yet but I am wholly confident that it will work. I would therefore highly recommend this device to all who have old but working optical drives & hard disk drives from old computer builds but no bay or provision in their current computer rigs for the installation of an optical drive or not enough space for all the old HDDs they might have.
