I currently have spotify family,  can i use these cards to pay for the service?

The cards are not fraudulent, but Spotify won't accept them for family plans or other "discounts and promotions". Other discounts and promotions can include student plans, or plans set up through a third party service. For a family plan there are workarounds for getting the cards to work, but they are a bit of a pain to do. You have to drop the primary family account back to free, redeem the card, add premium family back onto your plan, then re-add all of your family members to your family plan, meaning that they also have to fill in the address section again on Spotify to reactivate their premium service.

When you redeem gift cards, does spotify require you put a credit card on file for your account?

No credit card was required when we used the gift card.

Can these cards be used for student accounts?

I don't think they can in the sense that you'll get a duscount. You'll be able to get 6 months of premium, but not a discounted rate. Hope this helps :)

I am not sure. When I ran into this problem I ended up chatting with Spotify customer support and they told me I would have to cancel my existing account and with that lose all music I downloaded and playlists. Then I would have to set up a new account and start all over. At the time I was very perturbed.  If I recall,  it was the inspiration for my one and only Facebook rant.  If you are a student I would not take the chance with the $60 you would have to invest.  It is not worth the hassle.
