This Book Is Gay

This Book is Gay is packed full of information - especially if you are new to the queer world. It’s actually a great foundation for people who want to debate the other side too. Interspersed between all of the facts are stories directly from queer people about their experiences. This is my favorite part of the book, but then I’ve been around for a bit. Juno Dawson put together an awesome book. I think this book should be in every library, right next to Marlo Thomas’ Free To Be You and Me. I had to read that book when I was kid - forced to mind you. I think every kid, parent, and human should be educated on what all humans look like.😆 Hey, if your gonna make a kid look a naked illustrations that are supposed to describe who I am and what my brother looks like (ick) - then let’s cover everyone. Just saying. My eleven-year-old self is still grossed out. If you haven’t figured out by now: This Book is Gay is now on my Must Read list! Kudos to Juno Dawson for writing it and updating it.

I’ve been out for quite a few years in my life. But this opened my eyes to things I never knew or educated me more on things I thought I knew. It definitely gave me insight on my children and the lives they are living currently and how different things are from when I grew up. I would recommend this to anyone in the LGBTQ+ community or anyone who has family members or friends that are a part of the community. It is very informative in a good way.

Insightful read with clever anecdotes along the way. An uplifting experience for a gay guy.

I bought this book primarily because it had been placed on several “banned books” lists. Which just goes to show how afraid of facts some people are. There are only two restrained nude line drawings, one of a man and one of a woman. And their inclusion isn’t frivolous, the drawings are to enhance the educational value of the text. The text itself is factual and very matter of fact (and occasionally funny). There’s no attempt to appeal to prurient interests, only to curiosity, and to answer that curiosity with factual information, accompanied by personal quotes from a variety of people.

banned book in town library schools and all over and dont see a point in very informational. needs to be sold everywhere. As i will be letting every family member know i have and be letting my son read. There is no reason for the book to be banned. somone just has there panties in a bunch.

Breezy but thorough."This Book is Gay" is aimed at young queer folk. However, the author never talks down to her audience and she covers the entire range of topics for any of us who have come out as queer and for those thinking of coming out. This would also be great for straight people who might want to learn about our LGBTQ communities. Highly recommended.

As an ally, I purchased this book among others as a desire to learn more about the experience of the LGBTQ+ community. The writing is targeted towards a teenage demographic and reads as a guidebook to coming to terms with one's sexuality/gender identity. While it certainly is an easy read and I'm sure has been helpful for people, I found myself yearning to learn more about the social issues and history of the LGTBQ+ community and ultimately switched to different books/avenues of education. If choosing to buy this book, understand its discussion regarding social issues and the historical context of the LGBTQ+ community is pretty shallow/limited which may be due to the younger demographic the writing is geared towards. It serves to provide an understanding of the experience of a queer person on an individual scale. In my personal reason for reading the book, I feel like I could have easily obtained this information from speaking to a queer friend.

At first I wasn't sure if I should get this or not, I thought it might be a bit cheesy and similar to pathetic advice leaflets given out in schools/colleges. However I actually found myself smiling an laughing at parts and frowning in others, but the author has written the book in a way which makes you realise individuality, personal choice and most importantly tries to help you to figure things out for yourself. I think this book is a valuable aid not just for those who are in a position where they feel the need to seek advice with issues regarding sexuality but it should be valuable for teachers in schools and for everyone who may come into contact with people from a diverse range or backgrounds. I'm glad I did order this because it has actually boosted my confidence a lot.

Saying I love this book is an understatement. This book is THE book that made me want to read more and value educational LGBT books because there is a lack of education of it in our schools. Easy to read read and follow. I'm down to my third copy of the book because I believe it should be read more and I donated the previous two books to LGBT organisms. This is a Sex-Ed book, even for straight people. It does go through the ins and outs of gay culture now. It is an interactive book, there are places to draw and write. For a ADHD person like myself, opening the book at any page, I'm sure I will learn something new or understand something better. This book is a very good start to have arguments in LGBT topics and arguments. Overall, this is is one of the best books I've read and actually use and reread very often.

imagine your best (not homophobic/transphobic) friend, telling you facts about sexual and gender identity. now in funny. and a few drawings. And now they're talking about bears and twinks and the bible. and it's still funny. funnier than you'll ever be. a perfect book for everyone who wants to learn more about LGBTQA. (gay? transgender? Bisexuell? asexuell? this book got it all.)

This book explains everyrhing. Everyrhing you need to know about the LGBT. And it is funny. Really funny. It is one of my favorite books now
