Informative and inspiring
I've read this from start to finish in one sitting, but will be coming back to it again and again as I intend to work my way through the techniques. I got the kindle version and it is great on my large kindle Fire, with the ability to show the colour photographs in their sumptuous glory. I doubt it's suitable for my small reading kindle. Ruth Singer has a wonderful ability to explain quite complicated fabric manipulation in understandable steps. The drawings that accompany the directions are very useful and the photographs of manipulated fabric are beautiful. The only thing I can imagine could improve the book is if there were the actual fabric samples included (obviously, only in my dreams).

Well suited to a beginner
I bought this this book for myself as I was looking for some ideas on different fabric manipulation techniques for dress making. The book is an impressive size with a lot of information. The photos were really detailed and explanations were detailed in the sense that they were easy to understand and were broken down into individual steps. Honestly, I felt this book was better suited to someone who has done little to no manipulation - much of the book focuses around ribbon manipulation like is shown on the cover, or pleating. I was hoping for more of the manipulation techniques that build complex structure. I was suggested to The Art Of Fabric Manipulation as a book better suited to what I was looking for. This book will be useful for ideas for different pleats and the ribbon folding, but I do not think I will personally reference it a lot. If you have done little to no manipulation in the form of pleats etc the book would be ideal for you. I have rated it 4 stars as it is very detailed and is a good book, but just wasn't quite as detailed as I was hoping.

Could have been better
Whoever gave this book 4 or 5 stars, did not try the instructions. I wanted to make the embellishment featuring on the front page (which is why I bought the book), but after several evenings lost in trying, did not manage without the help of a Japanese origami expert friend. I tried contacting the author for more info, but to no avail. Furthermore, the examples in most of the pictures are rather clumsy, if I was to finish projects like that, I would not be satisfied, let alone publish it. Rather a disappointment, the author has some good ideas, but is not quite getting there.

Brilliant
I have been looking for a book like this for embellishing all sorts of projects, from cushions to clothes, and this was just what I was looking for and well worth the money. Lots of ideas, many of them quite simple, but I'd never have thought of them. Very effective ideas, not just the usual applique, etc, etc. Great value.
