Big enough for larger dogs (~13-15 pounds?), Beautiful design
SIZE I looked everywhere for reviews for people that have dachshunds, because their bodies are very long, even though they stand short. This carrier holds my almost 13 lb miniature dachshund and is actually a but big for her. She can be completely stretched out inside, and definitely has plenty of room to move around. You can see from the photos that she is quite comfortable inside. When the the bag is sitting upright, which is the position you would have when you are wearing it as a backpack, my dog has to lean her head down to look out the window. When the bag is laid on its back/ back down (this is probably the position you would put it in under an airplane seat), she is able to be completely stretched out and stand up completely. HOWEVER, I do not think that this bag is small enough to be carried as a carry-on bag for in cabin pet travel. It is too large to fit underneath the airplane seats. There is a smaller bag, it's the darker leather brown (pictured), and I will include the link. PETRIP Cat Carrier Cat Backpack Carrier for Large Cats 22 lbs Dog Backpack Carrier Dog Travel Bag Pet Backpack Carrier for Medium Small Cat Dogs Carrier for Hiking Airline Approved Pet Carrier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GST13RM/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_8408E7MKG6T242GBFBBY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 My dachshund fit quite comfortably in both. If you have a dog that is going to be sitting up right in the backpack, you might want this light tan canvas bag because it is taller. Otherwise the dark leather-like one is more travel-friendly. TRAVEL Continuing on with the airplane theme for national flights you have to have three sided ventilation. For international flights you have to have four sided ventilation. This bag has four sides and would work for these stipulations. Comparing it to the dark leather bag, this one is much less likely to fit under the airplane seat. If your dog is small enough, I would imagine the other** bag working as a carry-on. CLEANING To compare again: The leather like material bag would be completely wipe-off-able and stain proof. Obviously, you can remove the inner padding in both. I would say that this would be leak proof per airport "standards." I like that the leather like material does not let the dog hair stick to it, so it looks very clean, and elegant. The light tan canvas bag, which is made of canvas seems durable, the brown leather is much more cleanable. The light handbag is canvas, and the dog hair sticks to it, and it would be more likely to stain. PERHAPS the light canvas material would be more durable than the leather? I'm assuming that the Leather-like material might be more likely to get scratched or snagged. Time will tell! LOOK The material is high quality, and looks great. One thing I was looking for was a bag that wasn't super obvious to being a pet carrier; as you can see from some of the pictures, this bag is obvious that you have a dog in this bag. When comparing the look of the light tan canvas bag, I think that I like the overall structure of the light tan canvas bag better. COMFORT I would say this would be completely comfortable for my Doxie to be in for several hours. She has plenty of space to move around and it is well-vented. For the person wearing it, it is not the most comfortable backpack I've had. It's not a bad backpack, but it has some form of a frame that keeps it in shape. But overall the straps are padded, and fit nicely over my shoulders. The light tan canvas bag felt like it didn't dig into my back as much as the dark leather. It has a longer length to it, and maybe it's that better on my hips. I'm not sure. STRUCTURE This bag has a sturdy structure, good shoulder straps, zippers work nicely. I DO NOT like that these zippers go around the entire base of the bag - that entire base is supported only by the zipper. I feel like that's not really durable, and the second your zipper breaks, you can no longer transport your pet with this bag). I am assuming that it wouldn't break. But I'm saying "if" it broke, that could be bad. I really like that this bag has pockets - the leather one doesn't! ***I will be returning this item only for one reason: It's too big to fit under the airplane seats.

Best cat backpack out there
I did a lot of research on cat backpacks and pulled the trigger on this one due to its structural integrity while still maintaining breathability via the mesh. Structure: 5/5 The top of the sides as well as the top are made of a sturdy mesh so that my cat cannot rip through it with her claws, and they supply good airflow as well. She loves the bubble on the front of the backpack, where she can get an uninhibited view of outside. The bubble itself was difficult to put on, but once situated it hasn't given me any problems. The bag itself is collapsible, which is great for storage if you chose to collapse it. In order to assemble the bag, you simply zip the bottom of the bag and place the bottom insert into the bag. The bottom also has straps that connect the bottom to the side so there will never be any malfunctions that cause the bottom to fall out during use. The top of the bag can open in two modes. You can unzip a large portion of the top and place your cat in the bag (first picture), or unzip a smaller square of mesh so your cat can poke its head out. Function: 5/5 I chose this bag because of its functionality. It has deep mesh pockets on the side for storage, which was a selling point for me because it can hold my water bottle and my cat's accessories when we go out. The inside of the bag has a small leash that keeps your cat from jumping out of the bag if they get the opportunity. I don't use it often because she gets her arms twisted in it, but I still enjoy the option. I love how roomy this bag is for my cat. A lot of the backpacks on the market look fantastic but are a tight fit for most cats. A full-grown cat should be able to move around comfortably in this, with space to sit, lay, and pace. I like that the bottom portion of the backpack is made of material, so my cat can hide behind this when she feels intimidated or scared by something. She has the ability to adjust how much she interacts with the world, which is important to me as a pet owner. Comfortability: 4/5 The bottom insert of the bag is mostly hard with a thin layer of soft material. For short trips this suffices, but I do slip in a blanket for her when we take long trips so she has something comfortable to lay on. For the wearer, this backpack is as comfortable as expected. It has a chest strap to support the weight, and has not given me any back or shoulder problems as of yet. You can feel your cat moving around in the bag, but it doesn't affect the wearer's balance too much.

Perfect for all my kitties!
Carries a small kitty to a big fat kitty! No cat is a big fan of carriers, but I'll tell you what, my scaredy-cat goes in this thing so easily and loves to go on nature walks with me and he even has room to lay down when he inevitably falls asleep!

It's decent, I'd recommend
First off, let's talk size. This thing is advertised for large cats. I've got a 14 pound tom. He isn't fat, he's just huge; nearly two feet from nose to rump. He fits in this bag, but barely. He's got room to lie down, room to sit up, and just enough room to turn around if he needs to. That said, if I add a blanket as padding in the bottom, he doesn't fit sitting up all the way. Next, let's talk about comfort. My cat seems to be okay in it, but the bottom does cave a bit under his weight, and it's very firm/not super comfy for long periods. I'm gonna have to make a custom crate mat for this bag because anything else is too thick for him to still fit in on top. My cat surprisingly is not terrified of this bag; I leave it laying on its back with a blanket inside when we aren't using it, and he takes naps in there. As for the wearer's comfort, well, this is the bulkiest bag I've ever carried, and with 14 pounds of nervous feline inside of it, I can't say it feels great to walk around in. That said though, it's probably about the same level of inconvenience as a hiking pack. It's got pretty good support and the straps feel sturdy. About the sturdiness. I mentioned that the "floor" of the bag warps a bit under my cat's weight. For a bag advertised for big cats, that's kind of disappointing. Something like a Maine coon would not fit in this bag, and I wouldn't trust anything over 15 lbs in it. Also, the strap sewn inside the bag with the little hook to attach to a harness? Snapped right off. It handled my cat's pulling 3 or 4 times, but that 5th time, it just broke. Luckily I was in my apartment and hadn't headed out yet, so my cat was safe indoors and not runnig into traffic. Again, for a bag advertised for BIG CATS, that strap was pathetic and flimsy. However, the rest of the bag is super durable, and my cat is unable to escape from it. I made the mistake of putting him in the bag before going to the bathroom, and he thought I was just leaving him in there forever. I came out to find he had flipped the bag and was flailing around inside of it (I gave him some apology treats to make up for it) but the bag is unscathed. All in all, I like this bag. My cat got used to it pretty quickly, and while he's scared of outside (more specifically, dogs and children) and doesn't want to be trapped in it all day, he does like it. He likes napping in it, he likes going exploring but having a place to hide. I wish the bottom was sturdier and comfier, I wish the leash strap wasn't garbage, and I wish the back was just a little more padded for the wearer. But I would recommend this bag. Just don't trust that strap to hold your cat if you leave the top unzipped.

I bought this for my cat's enjoyment
I bought this product for my cat's enjoyment, right? Patches is 5 months old; I use this bag to take her out and about. I've used thing a lot. Before using it however, I even let her explore it for a long time before using it. She does wonderful when it's laying down. She will go and just sleep in there sometimes. She LOVES the softness of the inside. However, she FIGHTS me like you wouldn't believe when I go to take her out now. If I catch her first thing in the morning, she's pretty mellow. Doesn't mind going to the vet in it. I put her in there to take her on a walk and she becomes this little demon from hell. Claws out, fighting while swinging her paws everywhere. After several claw marks going from elbow to wrist, I usually end up winning, barely. Now, when I out it on, I can't wear it on my back at all. She screams like I'm murdering her. I have to wear it on my front, looking like an angry, pregnant human hippo. Yes, a pregnant hippo. I'm already slightly overweight, keep in mind. It's just, I have to lean back to keep the screaming jumping bean from trying to rip the top open and go for my face. Now, she has a slight opening from the top to get her started. They have a hook to attach to their harness or collar to the bag to ensure she won't run away. Since she's too small for a harness, I can't clip it to her collar, or she'll choke herself. I could leave it in the bag and off of her but then as we walk, it slams into her head, as it swings back and forth. I don't like being hit in the head so, I TRY to be nice and leave it out. Unfortunately, like I said earlier, doing that makes an opening that can help her escape her cozy prison. Now, once she settles down, she will sit down and stare at the people as we walk through our small town. She likes watching the people, seeing the cars whizz by, and stares with intent to kill at all the wildlife around us. The biggest drawback honestly is where it lets air in EVERYWHERE. We went out for a walk, and she was shivering so bad, I had to put a blanket inside to help keep her warm. To sum it up, I like this bag because I can actually take Patches out to enjoy nature or travel to the vet in comfort. I also am not hurting my wrist carrying a huge plastic prison box. I just wish it was a little warmer and more comfortable to carry on your chest.

Sturdy and Stylish!
I bought this for my 13 lbs Maltipoo who is kinda tall for her breed. I was worried this carrier would be too small for her and/or sink under her weight. While it’s not as roomy as I’d like, she fits in it sitting up with the top closed, can turn around and can curl up to lay down if she wants, which I tried to get pics of but she wasn’t going for it. The bottom is sturdy and doesn’t sink at all. Like other reviewers, I wish there was a waist strap in additional to the chest strap for comfortability, I may buy one to add on. I velcroed a portable fan to the inside because I’m in a very hot area and I worry about her over heating even though I am satisfied with the ventilation of this bag for normal weather conditions. I taped a metal straw horizontally under the bubble window because when my dog stands up to look out the front, the front of the bag caves a lot and looks like she’ll fall out. The straw eliminated that. Overall, I’m happy with the quality, price and fit of this bag. Looking forward to many adventures with my girl!

Perfect for pet transport
Love this bag. Use it all the time to move the cat. It's very large and roomy. The ventilation is great. The sides, and top of the bag are netted, along with three metal rings with holes near the bottom of the bag, providing plenty of air for the cat.

Needs a Fix
So if you look in any of the reviews, you can see that the lead snaps off very easily. Since I was aware of this flaw, when I got it, I put on a small amount of pressure to see if mine would also snap and it did immediately. The lead is attached by a single stitch, looped up under a small amount of fabric and it cannot withstand ANY force, let alone what an animal would do. I would say that this is still a good backpack carrier overall, but if you buy it, be prepared to sew it back in first. Snap it off (like I did) and use some strong stitches to attach it to the strap that holds the top, rather than the backpack part itself. And yes, use some force to make sure it sticks. With all that in mind, it would be good for the money in general, but the lead's flaw definitely makes it impossible for me to give it a higher rating since the safety of the animal within is so important.
