Adobe Lightroom 6 Video Book: Training for Photographers

I downloaded the Kindle version of this book and I like that I can read AND watch the videos that come with the book! The link to the videos was a little confusing to access. First you have to register your purchase and then you get an email stating you now have access to the online videos. Once on the website, I kept getting an error message that I didn't have access but I clicked on another link on the page and was able to see all of them. The videos are not boring! They are well-made and Tony is easy to watch and goes through every feature of Lightroom. I've learned so much about the program already and while watching on my Kindle I have Lightroom loaded on my computer and I can stop the videos and practice what I just learned! I like reading the book, but I get so excited about something I just read that I keep running to my computer to try it out. So the videos are great for me but the book is a great reference and has lots of detail. This has been a great investment and I have already gone back to re-do some photos that I adjusted previously while experimenting on my own. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who would like to learn Lightroom but thinks it may be too advanced.

I was SO frustrated with Lightroom. Photoshop has been my Go-To editing software for YEARS. With all that folks were telling me about LR's superb organizational aspects, I had to give it a try. I was NOT a happy camper. There are just too many features embedded & I was missing most of the subtleties. Tony Northrup is an excellent presenter. I have trusted his observations on other content, and so turned to this book as my entry into fluency. I COULD NOT BE MORE PLEASED!!!!!!!!!! The text includes HOURS of video training not available on You Tube; the text becomes a great reference afterwards. Tony is clear and concise. He will begin a topic, offer an overview for context, and then later delve into greater depth when his viewer is ready. The order of his topics is well considered; his examples amplify the skill set he's speaking about. It's obvious he really knows his material, but he never makes me feel overwhelmed and lost. And I love his easy manner. Anyone needing to learn the intricacies of using Lightroom confidently--look no further. This is a fabulous learning experience!!!! It's worth 50 times more than its cost!!!

When I got more serious about photography a couple of years ago, I made the lucky decision to get Tony Northrup's Stunning Digital Photography Kindle book. It is still my "go to" field reference on my smartphone. The book was highly readable, he makes the complex simple and does it with good cheer. It has lots of video tutorials linked to it, so I'm able learn both ways, first from the book and then by him showing me how it's done. When his Lightroom 5 book was released, I jumped on that. Even though I had been using Lightroom for over 2 years, he taught me new tricks and seriously sped up my workflow and enhanced my ability to find image quickly. I also got the Lightroom 6 book as soon as it was released, because I had just subscribed to Creative Cloud. Hours and hours of video tutorials are also included in these Kindle books. And, each of these books are the best $10 you'll ever spend! I'd recommend anything by him and his wife Chelsea. They rock!

The video presentations are quite well done for the most part, and will provide the viewer with a good basic understanding of Lightroom, as promised. The links published in the book are either broken or lead one in circles, so you have to plan on doing some searching to find the videos amongst many pages of other products and services offered by the Northrups. If you purchase the book from Amazon or some other retail source, you will need to register the product to get to much of the available content, which is not unreasonable. However, the process of registering the product is a little clunky, and I was kicked out mid-way several times with error messages, and in the end had to email the author with a copy of my Amazon receipt to get registered. They did respond and get me registered within 24 hours.

Tony Northrup is a great teacher. He teaches with a happy, charismatic and light-hearted manner and yet DOES NOT stray off the subject matter. This book and video series is GREAT since I can stop, pause, put to use what I have learned and go back to the video - all at MY OWN PACE! This book and video set will NOT make you a great editor. But - it WILL show you what the many features in Lightroom are for and how to use them! I fervently wish I had purchased this book a year ago, when I first subscribed to Lightroom. It is also nice to have fast replies from their support team, through email. I got quick answeres both times I wrote. This is a must buy set for all people first starting out with Adobe Lightroom.I will also be purchasing more of Tony and Chelsea's books and video courses.

If your afraid to dabble in lightroom...don't be! I read this book....jumped into lightroom and read the book again while practicing within the program. Absolutely great publication. Gave me enough knowledge to confidently run a sizeable workflow. Lots of tips and tricks. Chelsea and Tony know how to write in ways that is easily understood and applied. I keep the book right next to my computer should I need to reference a shortcut or process. Was the best lightroom book I have purchased and read. *** Northrups Stunning Digital Photography book compliments this very well! Make sure you buy them both and keep close at hand. With these two books, confidence and camera time, you'll be up and running and producing stunning images, with confidence!

I must have bought a dozen how to books about photography but very few of them were comprehensive and understandable and all of them were obsolete in far too short a time. I bought the kindle version of the Northrups' guide and was impressed from the beginning. The online tutorials are well integrated into the e book and the writing style was readable and intelligible for both the beginner and the more experienced. The customer service on their website was also excellent. As others have remarked, the e book version is very good value for money (about half of the price of the physical book). As an economist by training I find it infuriating when publishers gouge the consumer by charging almost as much for the e book as for the physical books when production and distribution costs for the former are a so much less. Moreover, when the time comes updates should be equally well priced (as long as Adobe doesn't kill off Lightroom, like Photoshop, by trying to rent it to you by the month)

I am new to Lightroom and had already purchased and viewed a different Lightroom course ($80 for about 7 hrs content, and no accompanying book). I also purchased a different Lightroom book for $25 which, though well written, had no accompanying video. So when I purchased this book for 1/4 the price of the other video course, AND had an excellent book with which I could follow the videos, I couldn't believe what an incredible deal this purchase was. And to top it off, the author is an excellent speaker and his presentation is both clear and engaging. As a further bonus, you get over 100 free Lightroom presets that you can download. Very well done!

An easy book to follow and with great video examples would recommend it to anyone.

My photo collection now extends to 35000+ photos and I decided it was time to find a better cataloguing solution. Lightroom gets good reviews and the built in simple editing abilities appealed since most edits to my pictures are just crops and exposure; I already own Photoshop elements, but didn’t find this a quick program to use for simple editing. After buying Lightroom 6 and installing it I decided I need some instruction in its use. Having looked around I decided to purchase this book based on the good reviews, normally I buy the physical book, but the e-booked seemed such good value I thought I would give it a try. I started to read the e-book on my laptop and was surprised how useful the video links were. I like the fact you can watch the video and then pause it while you try the same thing in Lightroom on your computer. Tony’s presentation style is very good and easy to watch, casual and chatty, but he seems to be enjoying himself and doesn’t get overly technical. He covers a lot of ground quickly and you acquire good overview of what the program can do. After a while I found myself watching the videos and then going back to read the book later.

Very informative book for beginners

Zum Buch selbst Man merkt dem Autor seine Erfahrung an. Die Kapitel sind logisch aufgeteilt und gut sortiert, sodass man auch als deutscher Leser nicht die Überblick verliert. Vom Schreibstil her wird zwischen unmissverständlichen, sachlichen und erklärenden Teilen und auflockernden Passagen gewechselt. Tatsächlich mal ein Sachbuch, das einfach Spaß macht beim lesen. Kompliziertere Sachverhalte werden häufig mithilfe von Bildern erläutert. Das hilft einem als Besitzer der deutschen Version von Lightroom, dessen Übersetzung oft sehr schwammig ist, ungemein, da die Position der Menüpunkte sich nicht von der englischen Version unterscheidet. Viel mehr kann man hierzu nicht sagen, also komm ich gleich zum spannenden Teil des Buchs. Die Extras Man kann sein Buch beim Autor registrieren (Das läuft über e-mail, die genaue Vorgehensweise ist im Buch erklärt). Dadurch erhält man Zugriff auf: - Videos: Es sind über 14 Stunden Videos verfügbar. Diese decken den gesamten Inhalt des Buchs ab (wer also weniger gern liest kommt hier voll auf seine Kosten) und gehen teilweise noch weiter. Es gibt unter anderem Tutorial zu bestimmten Techniken (z.B. Dodge & Burn, HDR) und beispielhafte, vollständige Workflows (z.B. Wasserfälle, Hochzeiten, Portraits). Weitere Videos zu Lightroom und zu Fotografie im allgemeinen findet man auf dem YouTube Kanal von Tony & Chealsea Northrup (deren gesicht übrigens das Cover dieses Buchs ziert). Über diesen Kanal veranstalten die beiden außerdem wöchtentliche Livestreams, in denen sie Fotos der Zuschauer bewerten und ihnen Tipps geben (Fotos können während der Show eingesendet werden) und ein paar Nachrichten aus der Foto-Welt zusammenfassen. Mittlerweile sind auch immer mal wieder bekannte Gäste dabei, wie Matt Granger und Dom Bower. Die Stimmung ist dabei immer sehr locker und meistens fließt auch Alkohol. - Presets: Es gibt 150 Presets für Lightroom zum Download. Dabei ist alles erdenkliche und sie sind sehr nützlich um sich ein bisschen inspirieren zu lassen. - Beispielkatalog: Es gibt einen 750MB großen Lightroom-Katalog mit Beispielbildern zum herunterladen. Diese werden auch in den Videos verwendet, sodass man mit den gleichen Bildern üben kann, an denen auch erklärt wird. - Updates für das Buch und andere Dateiformate: Fehler im Buch, die dem Autor gemeldet werden, werden korrigiert. Immer wieder werden neue Inhalte hinzugefügt. Wer das Buch auf anderen eBook-Readern als einem Kindle lesen will, der kann die epub oder pdf Version herunterladen. Für Kindle steht außerdem eine Version mit höherauflösenden Bildern zur Verfügung. Alles in allem kann ich dem Buch nur 5 Sterne geben, ich finde einfach keine Kritikpunkte.
