Great product!
I love this stuff! I recently built a crib and I needed a strong, food safe finish. I purchased this due to good reviews as a hard drying oil finish. I liked it so much that I finished a window cornice box and matching dresser project too!First off, it smells great (kind of like a green tea smell) while it’s wet. I applied the finish with a spreader for the flat surfaces and a paintbrush for the more intricate areas, then wiped the excess off with a shop towel. I sanded the pieces to 180 grit (there were no instructions on the label for what grit to sand to but I did some testing and this seemed to give a good feel). The finish ultimately took about two weeks to cure. I applied it in my garage and temps were in the 80s. The oil soaks into end grain very fast (as you would expect) and after about an hour or so feels dry to the touch. The side grain is what took the longest to fully cure and no longer feel that oily residue.I definitely recommend this if you need a hard, food safe finish and will definitely buy it in the future!

Super oil
needed a food safe oil for a Charcuterie board. really brings out the different colors in the wood and is food safe. smells amazing and the quality of the oil makes it easy to apply. I'd recommend a light cloth cloth as opposed to a paper towel or napkin.

Slow drying, but beautiful
This is my second bottle of Mahoney's. Below, I'll give you a little detail on how I've used it, and how it works.USING ITI've used Mahoney's to refinish Ikea Gerton tabletops. Generally, I'll prep the surface by sanding through the grits, from about 200 to about 1000, until the surface is smooth and blemish-free. I'll then apply 3-6 coats of oil, waiting 24 hours between coats and fully rubbing the product into the wood before letting dry between coats. I'll then let set for at least 2 weeks.HOW IT WORKSThis is indeed a slow-drying product. Like I mentioned above, I'll wait *at least* 2 weeks before using the surface. Honestly, this product can take 1 month+ to dry to the point where you're not picking up any residue while using the surface. I was expecting this, and so it didn't disappoint me. The oil gently darkens the wood, and gives the surface a wonderful sheen, contrast, and depth, almost like a burled maple in the way the light catches it. It's a very natural looking finish, and is very smooth when it finally dries. It's not at all a hard finish and will scratch and wear with the piece. Again, this is what I was looking for so I was happy with it. There's a reason people recommend using this for bowls and not necessarilly, table tops, but I am very particular about my wood finishes, and this fit the bill perfectly for what I wanted.OVERALLI can say that I'm happy overall with Mahoney's, especially after learning to work with it shortcomings. It's slow drying, so patience is a must. It's an oil finish, so it doesn't provide a ton of protection, so gentleness (or patience with refinishing or re-applying occasionally) is necessarry. It is beautiful, if you're into more natural looking finished with a lot of satiny depth. If it still sounds appealing, get a bottle and try it out! Personally, I'm a fan.

Great finishing oil for unfinished wood projects
Very easy to apply and does a great job of highlighting wood grain and adding richness of color to unfinished wood projects. Wood type effects the number of coats required, amount of oil absorbed and depth of penetration, which, along with temperature and humidity, effects drying time. Open grain woods like walnut require multiple coats and can take up to a week or more to fully dry. It is food safe and provides good protection from moisture and water making it an excellent choice for cutting boards, cheese boards and charcuterie boards.

Good Food Grade Oil
I carve spoons, spatulas, bowls and small objects as a hoby. I have used this oil on a couple of spoons so far and am very pleased with the outcome. The oil spreads cleanly and clear. I have used it on hardwoods which are light colored or have mixed grain. In both cases, no yellowing or color caste can be seen with a clear even finish that dries quickly. I use this in conjunction with natural beeswax for a food grade natural wood finish.

Nice Finish
Turned a walnut plate and finished it with this. Sanded to 400 grit, wiped the plate off, and used this like a friction finish. 3 coats polished into the wood and left in on the lathe overnight. Another day at room temperature and you couldn't feel the oil. Brings out the grain nicely and seals the wood.
