Will the gel leave a "gel cast" or leave hair crunchy?

No it will not. Its a texturizing gel so the object is to make your hair more manageable. I have different textures all around but my hair appears to be curly and scrunchy. This worked better on my hair years back before dyes. But if you want your hair to take on the same textures all over, this should help, unless your hair is extremely dry. Then you should try a deep conditioner to soften it before applying this.

How does this product smell?

A faint floral scent. It is not a strong smell. Of course i have had my jar a while and not using, but may use again one day.

Can this gel be used for slicking hair back?

That is not what I use the gel for but I would think you can use it to slick hair back.

Do you have to use a platic cap to initiate the curl like in the old jheri curl days?

This doesnt make my hair like a jheri curl it just enhance my natural curl and provides moisture. I do not use a plastic cap.
