Review: Simply the best compost bin - I didn’t expect to get this excited about a compost bin, but here we are. This new setup has honestly made composting feel easy instead of like a chore. The bin itself is sturdy and well-ventilated, which I love because it keeps everything from getting too soggy or smelly. Turning and adding material is simple, and it holds a surprisingly large amount without looking bulky or out of place. What really stands out is how clean and organized everything feels now. Review: Simplest, fastest composter ever with long durability. Get this one, you won't regret it. - This was my 4th year using one of these composters for my backyard composting (leaves, grass clippings, garden waste, kitchen scraps). It does an awesome job- big enough capacity that there's enough biomass to keep the breakdown happening year round, you can configure the size easily and on the fly, there's easy access to the pile over the edge for turning, etc. The compost comes out consistent- an issue I've had with every other composting system I've ever tried, this one has the best outcome... the mesh design and upright orientation of this composter allows the right amount of air and water to penetrate the pile, so as long as you turn it with regular frequency, the materials break down evenly and quickly. Easiest composting ever! I've tried other types of systems over my years of gardening and permaculture work- those smaller rotating bins or 55gal (or smaller) converted barrels don't have enough capacity to fuel the bio-reactions, and then they get gross FAST, not to mention the issue of limited accessibility to the material through tiny doors; the on-the-ground 3-sided 3-bin system doesn't allow enough air to penetrate the pile and takes up a lot of space; random big piles in your yard blow around and and make a mess, etc. This composter solves all those problems, is cheap, simple, and durable. I've made it this far in the 4 years using just one of these composters- I actively load up materials in batches, then it composts down; I add more material and that composts down; then turn regularly between big additions to the bin when the temperature of the pile drops... after a few months I take off the shell and start a new pile and let the other one rest/finish off until it's ready to be used- the resting pile holds it's shape neatly and I've never had any issues of collapse or blow-away. I increased my garden capacity this year, and so now I'm ready to pick up my second composter to get a second system going for the fall leaf season. I wanted to note on the durability, since this is a plastic product and sits in the sun. I keep my composter outside year round in the intense Colorado sun, and have seen NO issues- no ripping, no fading, no weakening, etc. and it doesn't break down in the elements (110F to -20F temps, rain, snow, large hail, squirrels, etc). I don't cover it nor protect it in any way.... it's just bomb-proof. Can't say enough good things. If you have a big yard with grass, and trees that drop lots of leaves (bag them in the fall to use the rest of the year), and a garden (or neighbors!) that could really use all of that rich organic material (for free!), you MUST be composting... and this is your simplest, cheapest, and easiest solution out there. Last note- because the diameter/ capacity of this pile is large if you have it all the way expanded out, I found it helpful to use a long stem (20 inches or more) compost pile thermometer to give me an idea of the internal state of the pile, so I know when to turn it. **Q: Can you buy two of these and use them to construct one uber large bin?**
A: You can, absolutely. Would I? Probably not. If you have a good bunch of initial compostable material I would think you could sturdy up the perimeter of the 2x unit. The material is kind of like a stiff, thinner bathtub mat with lots of air holes. So it's pretty pliable and might drive you nuts trying to keep it standing up if you don't have enough waste to start. That illustration probably has the bin reduced to about 1/2 to 2/3 the max diameter. I use it almost fully expanded.Hope this is helpful!

**Q: Can I overlap it around a wire mesh composter?**
A: You can, tho there's really no need to. The bin comes with five interlocking plastic "keys" that keep the bin shut pretty tightly. I've used my bins for about two and a half years now and they have stood up to all the wear I could put them to... Mainly putting it up, filling it up to the brim, and taking it down to move it on many multiples of occasions. In fact, I found that the method of using this composter most efficiently is using it to contain all of your materials in by filling it, (preferably by green and brown layer mixing), letting it sit for a day, and then taking it down and setting it back up next to the first stack to refill again. Using it this way, you could potentially have a number of mounds all working sequentially in a row composting, and when one is ready to turn, just use the bin set up next to the oldest to turn the pile into and repeat. These bins are very hardy, I have gotten a lot of use out of mine without the need for any wire mesh just using those keys to keep the screen closed. One thing that may be valuable to you, depending on how fast you can fill it, are little wire stakes to hold it into the ground, though I've never had any issue with it wanting to fall over at all unless there are heavy winds, or if you don't have enough starting material to form as a nice base to hold the circle in place as you fill it. Usually about a foot or two will be fine to keep it up as you fill it progressively, though it's really meant to be used for massive amounts of materials to fill it, as the process of composting works best when the pile is greater than three feet tall. If you do not have much starting material, you could potentially decrease the diameter of the bin to as small as you choose to, as the composter material can be overlapped and still locked together to a pretty small circle if need be.

**Q: Will extreme heat break down the plastic?  I live in Arizona and plastic things do not thrive well for very long outdoors.**
A: We live in North Carolina and had a very hot summer last year...record amount of 100+ days.  We have only had the bins for a year and have seen no breakdown.  The only thing that had happened was in a bad storm we had a 12in tree fall on one of the bins and all it did was tear the top about 2in between holes.  We are very pleased with how they are and for the price you can't beat them...Hope this helps

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best for cold compost piles

I've been using this compost bin for three months. There's a lot to like about it. At the same time, it has some less appealing features that can be extra-frustrating, depending on the type of composting you're doing. Before buying it, think realistically about what kind of composting you'll be doing. First, it's definitely worth it for the price and easy set-up. There are more expensive ones that work better. There's no doubt that those $100-$200, rotating bins will enable you to make compost more easily. You can also build a cheaper one yourself. I mean, you can literally just make a pile in your yard, and it will break down. (I've also read about someone who tied four wood pallets together. Worked great, and the only cost was labor.) But among the less expensive compost bins, this one is definitely the most user-friendly. A few, basic tips: 1. You need a lot of stuff to compost. The material you put in will hold the bin open. Keep in mind that it's been all rolled up in storage, so it wants to return to that rolled state. Make sure you have enough compost material. Use cardboard! It's easy to find, and free. Again, adding it only requires your labor. 2. Consider staking it with a pole or attaching it to a fence. It will make your life easier in the future. 3. Get someone to hold the ends together when you're setting it up. If you're doing it alone, unroll the bin around your body, so that you're inside of it. From there, you'll be able to put in at least the top two locks. Then you can lift it off and put in the other ones. Now comes the difficult part. What kind of composting are you going to be doing? Hot composting? Cold composting? The first one requires you to turn the pile at couple of times a week. With this bin, turning won't be difficult at first. You won't even have to open it. Simply use your shovel (I prefer a spade) to lift stuff out and move it around. As the compost becomes more dense, however, you'll find that it's a lot harder to turn without opening up the bin. And once the bin is open, you have to re-make the pile in a new place, because the bin can't be closed again. Plus, over time, this bin tends to slide up and expose the bottom part of the pile. The structure of the bin also changes when compost gets dense. It becomes less circular and more oval, and the long sides of the oval fold in on one another. About six weeks into my first hot compost pile, I stopped using this bin altogether, since I kept scraping my knuckles on the long edges, which had folded in toward the center. In short, this bin is better for people who are *NOT* going to be turning their compost very often. It's better for cold composting (a longer process, but one that doesn't require turning the pile). If you just want to throw stuff in there and not think about it again, then this is your bin. And unless you're a carpenter, it's probably more attractive than whatever free thing you can whip up on your own.
