Will plants grow in this substrate?

My plants are doing fine in my tortoise table. You may want to fertilize/feed them from time to time. My table is a closed habitat to keep humidity up for my baby tortoises so the substrate doesn't dry out often. When it does, though, I just dump more water in there.
