Renogy Solar Panel Mount for 50W Solar Panel

This is a very well designed and well constructed solar panel mount. I had a half of a Renogy portable 200w suitcase solar kit, and decided to make use of it. I stripped the panel by drilling out the rivets holding the hinges handle, charge controller and leg. This made the panel bare except for the power leads exiting the panel. The panel measured 26 1/2 x 32 3/4 and fit perfectly on the mount, with a bit of room to spare. I used a 4 inch galvanized conduit which I cemented into the ground as my post. I initially put the mount together prior to hanging it but found that more difficult to get it straight and square, so I took it back apart. Once apart, I first secured the bottom bracket on the pole and worked my way up from there. Total time to mount once apart was about 20min. The single panel I used is only 100 W and I have it hooked to two 100 amp hour deep cycle lead acid batteries. I am using the Voyager charge controller that came with the suitcase and in medium sun, initial battery voltage was 11.9vdc and charging voltage was around 12.7v to 13.1v. Pros: The mount is rock solid, very sturdy, perfectly sized for a single panel, and all mounting hardware is included and is of good quality. Cons: The angle brackets are not drilled correctly and this causes issues with alignment and assembly when trying to bolt the side angle pieces together. Basically there is not enough room to install the nuts and washers without getting interference from the other nuts and bolts. The workaround was to not use one of the lock washers, which gave enough clearance for the nut to clear the bolt head coming from the other direction. Not really a dealbreaker, but if the design added just another 1/4 inch to the location of the mounting holes, it could’ve avoided any modification. (see pic) Additionally, the angle brackets, not being drill correctly, did not allow for a flush fit against the horizontal angle bracket. The workaround for that was to use an angle grinder with a flapper wheel to shave the excess off. (see pic) Overall, I’m happy with the mount and would recommend it to anyone looking for a single panel mount for a pole. For the money, you get a really good, very solid, very sturdy, mount that will have no issue holding a panel its place. The mount is constructed of aluminum, making it light, but still providing stability.

I recently made a decision to install a small off grid solar system to supply my basic electrical needs. While I have had years of experience working with electronics. I was a complete novice when it came to generating electricity with solar panels. As such I choose to start my learning process with one 100 watt Renogy monocrystalline solar panel. Having an iron pipe already in place from an unused satellite dish. The perfect solution for mounting my new solar panel appeared to be by ordering the Renogy pole mount available here on Amazon. The pole mount arrived on time and well packaged in a 32" x 5" x 3" box. The assembly and installation manual was quite detailed including a parts list and drawings. All necessary hardware for assembly and mounting on the pole was included. Please note that you will need a few hand tools to complete the installation which are not supplied. The Renogy pole mount consists of aluminum and stainless steel except for the two 4" U-Bolts, washers and nuts which attach the mount to the pole. I completed the installation by myself without help. First by attaching the mount to the pole and then mounting the solar panel onto the pole mount using the supplied hardware. The completed installation is quite stable and has already weathered 50+ mph wind gusts. As an added plus I have found that by turning the solar panel on the pole to face the sun during the day. I can significantly increase the amount of watts generated each day. I am using this 100 watt off grid system to power my Compaq laptop (25-30 watts), a 2014 Vizio 32 inch smart TV with backlight set as low as possible (20 watts) and several very low wattage LED's (total 11 watts) for lighting. On sunny days I have no shortage of power using either the laptop or TV well into the night. Though I try not to use both at the same time! In the future I hope to replace my laptop with a more efficient HP 14" Chromebook hopefully allowing for the addition of a SunDanzer DCR50 solar refrigerator. I am quite happy with the Renogy pole mount and would certainly buy it again!

Well engineered. well made, and sturdy. My first Renogy experience, and it won't be my last. I've bought a few solar panel mounts on Amazon, and the vast majority of them are, simply, trash. The last one I had, never held my 50w panel, and kept slipping. This mount, however, is well made, solid, and a nice surprise. It was easy enough to put together, the bolt holes are a little too close together in a couple of places where you connect the vertical to horizontal, but that is my only gripe. All of the parts are machined aluminum, except the nuts and bolts, which are stainless steel. It mounted up on my 4" pole and hasn't budged... and I don't expect it will. I mounted a panel from a different manufacturer on it, and when it's time to replace it, I'm sure I'll go with Renogy. Products like this make me happy that the whole world hasn't cheaped out, trying to make the most by spending the least.

Received it quickly and in good shape. Set it up initially in the house, just to make sure I had all the parts and that I knew how to assemble it. It is very robust. Have a 3-1/2" OD pole, the mount fit just fine on the pole. Have a 27"x59", 20 lb, solar panel mounted to it. While that's larger than any of the panels recommended for it, it has been up on a hilltop now for over a month and remains steady. The stainless steel bolts are nice, but I forgot to put some anti-seize compound on the threads before putting on the pole. During some later panel orientation adjustment, the SS bolt and nut holding one of the end clamps in place seized up on me. Renogy, can I buy just a replacement clamp/bolt/nut from you? I don't see any way to do that from your website.

The product listing is incomplete and does not indicate what the minimum required pole size is. I am genuinely shocked and suspicious that this is not brought up more in reviews, as it does not fit on a 2 3/8 in diameter pole which is a fairly standard residential size for fencing. The product images do not show a large diameter pole either so the listing is quite misleading as well. Please update the description or provide smaller sized U bolts to accommodate smaller poles. Side brackets do not sit flush and have a gap, which means the rails are unable to stay parallel as the manual insists on. The nuts in the corners also collide with each other which makes them nearly impossible to tighten with a "socket wrench" as the manual says. You can barely even use a wrench. Overall this product is unfortunately unusable for me and I'm very disappointed in the build quality for what I paid.

The mount is sturdy and beefy compared to others on Amazon. Negative: If you're using this mount with a Renogy 50W PV panel, the brackets which hold the solar panel onto the pole mount are more than half way off the solar panel, as this mount is too large for their 50W PV panels. I built it as was designed and attached photos. The only thing I did was cut some excess off the vertical side rails holding the PV panel. I just don't like how the PV brackets are compressing a small area (hanging off the panel), was afraid while tightening the PV down to the mount, that the glass on the PV panel would break. We get some high winds around here, and I'm afraid of the glass as well possibly breaking later. I pretty much made a decision right now. I'm going to complete disassemble the unit and cut the horizontal rails to fist the panel so that the brackets aren't hanging so far off the edges of the panel. Ugh.

Although the thickness of the metal is good, the manual on assembly absolutely socket a little complicated for figuring out. Which components go where I just winged it. But it would be nice if they had a picture by picture. Application showing which side the frames go on and how it should be mounted. I would still buy the product even without a good manual because of the quality. And thickness of the material used.

I purchased two of these pole mounts from Renogy because I have had great experiences with prior products. This one surely doesn't meet my expectations. I opened the package and counted all the parts. The kit was missing one nut, 3 lock washers, and one extrusion bolt. There were 5 extra washers in the package. I started building the mounts and found that the instructions are terrible. They claim you need a 18MM wrench when you actually need a 19mm. How can they make this type of mistake? They also provide extrusion bolts that are so long that they cross the path of two perpendicular to it. This makes it difficult to tighten down and will be even more complex when it is sitting up 10 feet high on a pole. Very disappointed with this product.

Excellent product. Holding up well in all types of weather. Have four season extremes to contend with. Tough built.

Very high quality BUT if you are buying the polar mount kit on its own and not part of a deal with an accompanying solar panel make sure to message the seller and specify the size of panel you are intending to mount, as the mounting end clamps come in different sizes depending on solar panel size, ie 35mm for 100w panel, 30mm for 50w panel. Renogy were good enough to send me the correct end clamps after contacting them. None of this caused me any great loss but if you are in a hurry to set up then messaging the seller with your intentions will save you a lot of delay. Otherwise, this is the best quality kit I could fine online for pole mounting. Highly recommended.
