desertcart.com: Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Omnibus Vol. 2: 9781401255268: Johns, Geoff, Reis, Ivan, Mahnke, Doug: Books Review: The blackest night is one of DC's brightest spots in their history! - After reading an amazing volume 1, I couldn't resist getting volume 2 as I just had to read Blackest Night, and this beauty gives you everything leading up to it as well! Story: I was already excited to read this when I ordered it, so I went into it with high expectations. I loved every bit of this whole omnibus. Secret Origin almost made me cry, and it really struck deep! I loved seeing the origin of all the other Lantern Corps leaders. That was really sweet, and it was a wonderful build up to the main event! I thought Larfleeze in particular was funny, and definitely dangerous. I did like that Geoff Johns wrote Hal Jordan as remarking that Larfleeze reminds him of Gonzo, the muppet. lol Blackest Night was AMAZING and almost beyond compare as an epic! The story certainly lived up to its hype and namesake. The story also dropped a huge bombshell of a reveal about the DC Universe (which of coarse I won't say here). I really felt the peril of the heroes in this story and I cared about so many characters, especially John Stewart who had fantastic character development. I found myself also rooting for some people who you wouldn't expect to root for...save for the situation. The conclusion was draw dropping, EPIC!!!!!, and was a perfect end to what Johns considers his trilogy that started with Green Lantern: Rebirth. Art: This book is B E A U T I F U L!!!!!!!! I'm not sure if Ivan Reis had just made it into the big time right before he worked on GL, but this absolutely catapulted him to super stardom for sure because his work here is top notch! The choice of number of splash pages and double page spreads were more than usual and the reader will find that this book certainly has an epic feel to it as a result of the many whole page images, especially in Blackest Night! They are all stupendous, and expertly drawn by Reis and Manhke. I also have to say that the colorists, and inkers also did a wonderful job of making sure that the one book in DC's lineup that's all about a color spectrum is indeed a very vibrant, gorgeous book! This book just screams color and I wouldn't want it any other way! This is probably some of the best comic art I've ever seen! Overall: What can I say? Volume 1 really, really impressed me. Volume 2 is an absolute must, and unlike the overpriced Absolute Edition, this affordable omnibus has everything leading up to Blackest Night, and that event in its entirety. So worth getting, and the book itself is nice. I think DC can still improve their large books some more. The binding is still just ever so slightly tight. They really ought to go with a fully sewn binding. I also think DC needs to make the outer spines of their omnis thicker and stiffer. The outer spine on my book bends in the middle with the inner ribbon. This isn't supposed to happen. Even still, the book is solid, is heavy as hell, looks great, reads great....is great! Get this! Review: Huge book, solid storylines, not as good as Sinestro Corps War IMO, but second best era of Johns GL - Product condition described by seller Half Price Books as "used - Very Good", and I would agree. I can tell it's been read and handled, but both the book and dust jacket are in good condition, so this was a great buy. I've read this material before and have a lot of it in trade paperback format and some monthly singles, but not all. I enjoy the omnibus format and for a good price it was worth rebuying the material. I miss having a Green Lantern book this good month after month. Two page spreads look good, no real gutter loss that I've noticed. Some interesting extras in the back, and a lot of variant covers.

Geoff Johns is the best.
I’m just recently getting into DC comics as I had been mostly a Marvel fan since 1988. Had a few single issues of Justice League America, Justice League International, Teen Titans, Legionnaires, and random solo books. I am a huge Geoff Johns fan since his work on Avengers at Marvel. Huge loss for them to lose him. That said, I didn’t know much about Green Lantern or the Corps at all, though my brother in law is a huge fan and I had seen him with the figures and collectible power rings at his apartment and was always curious about the storyline. I’m glad I finally decided to pick this up when I saw it on sale. I was not disappointed at all. I had trouble putting this book down in order to go to bed. I read the whole think in less than three days that is how good the story line is. Since then I’ve been hooked on discovering more DC work by Johns, like Flash and Justice League. Def get this book you won’t regret it. Your wallet might regret is though because you’ll want to buy more. I did end up buying Omnibus 1 and 3 as well. 😂

Love the art, love the story, love the characters!
This is probably the high point of Geoff Johns Run on GL, and it's just great, but all 3 volumes are good and I can't recommend this more. It's exactly how comics should be, rich characters, interconnected space spanning story, takes it's time, has a point, but not preachy, and amazing art. It's really just a great read!

Its worth continuing!
Really fun and a great followup to the first volume. Good character development, and a great overall plot!

Better than the first omnibus!
It keeps getting better. Seems there's no low point for Johns' Green Lantern run. This explores and begins the emotional spectrum with all the new Lantern Corps and has the Blackest Night stories as well. It also has Secret Origins which is cool, you can obviously tell Hal Jordan is based of famous tast pilot Chuck Yeager(which is kinda cool). This is my second favorite out of the 3 omnibus. I have the 4th printing. It has a swen binding and the binding is good, standard DC binding. Eye is good I guess. My copy has a ton of glue in the binding so not a great as it should be. There's only some art gutter lost, not a big deal. Definitely pick this up.
