Wonderful collection. Filled up a need I had
Wonderful collection. Filled up a need I had. Just not enough Mark Schultz out there in my opinion. Need more! Besides the glorious contents, the book itself is nicely made, including its large size and paper use.Mark has really improved since his early days, and this is breathtaking proof. His pencils are superb and his inks fantastic. He does not give himself enough credit. Its cool to see the pencil and then the inks of the same image. There were some images that could have been grouped together, however, but this is a collection of several separate volumes, so I get it.Also his Edgar Rice Burroughs stuff was left ambiguously named, perhaps from fear of copyright infringements or something, but there are several Barsoom/John Carter images and some Tarzan. Also a lot of his Conan.Warning: there are just a few female nude images. To be expected, I suppose.

A Really Heavy Book
When other reviewers said this was a heavy book they weren't speaking metaphors. I've been a big Mark Schultz fan since I discovered Xenozoic Tales back in the '90's. I was eager to fill in the gaps of all his work that I'd missed and together with the two collected Xenozoic Tales reprints by Dark Horse, this looked to be it. So in the '60's sense I knew it was going to be heavy. But in the purely physical sense this is one big heavy book, the heaviest I own. It dethroned the previous title holder, A History of Central Asia, making it seem like an Ace paperback by comparison. Okay, a little hyperbole there but this really is the biggest heaviest book in my house and I have many big heavy books. You Schultz fans better get a steel reinforced shelf for this one.

Open this wide!
This gorgeous book manages to make master Mark Schultz's work accessible from a process aspect. From pencil doodle through full-page sketch (occasionally, an alternate or failed version) to meticulous ink-brush, you'll see at least a few examples of each step of his process, ready for optical digestion. It makes the artist look more human.Aaaand what a human! Beautiful scratchy dry-brush end-results abound, without a muscle, horn or rock out of place. Schultz actually seems more ferociously talented for the work and research put in, now.

This book is overwhelmingly good.
This book is overwhelmingly good. For starters, it is MASSIVE. Clocking in at 11 1/2 x 12 inches. Then you are bombarded with page after page after page of excellent art. It's Mark Shultz after all. That's really all I have to say. Buy it already.

Cars, Women, and Dinos. Who would've guessed it?
An interesting and solid look through the works of a man who wanted to keep the traditions of old adventure comics, of the 50s adventure comic to frazetta, alive in his own unique way. I think the man's color works don't get as much appreciation as they should, but his inking is worth studying for any connoisseur.

Happy Viewing.
An excellent coffee table book compendium of the now classic Various Drawings sketchbook series. Would have loved to have seen more of the color work mentioned in vol. 3 but what's there is still great work from one of the best comic book artist/illustrator active today.Buy it!

A great collection of his body of work
As an artist I always loved Schultz for his work in Tarzan and later on the XENOZOIC tales his use of ink and line it's just on par with Frazzetta in my own opinion. It's a great book if you liked any of his comics you'll love this

The media could not be loaded.

Worth every penny!
At first, I thought maybe I was spending a bit too much on this book, but once it arrived... wow! Over - sized, chock - full of Shultz's fantastic work, an artist who deserves to be amongst the illustrator's elite. I've had this coffee table compilation only a short while, and I've looked through it countless times already. For fans of truly great pen and ink art, spend the bucks. There is no downside to the purchase.

Excelente.
