Awesome Tomahawk!
My first thing that popped into my head when I pulled it out were: "Wow, this is small." The second thing that popped into my head was : "This packaging is stupid!" (have a knife ready, you'll need one, unless you like fiddling with zip ties for half an hour) The third thing that popped into my head was: "Who cares if these are small, they are awesome!" I am giving this a good review, because I like tomahawks anywhere I can get to use them: Video games (dead rising 2, black ops, red dead redemption), real life, axe throwing competitions on t.v., absolutely anywhere. I am a knife collector, but my love of tomahawks goes deeper than my love of knives. If you are an axe thrower, don't be fooled by the small size, this will throw well, and far, and fast. It is throwing sharp right out of the box, and I nearly cut myself seeing how sharp it was. If you want a small, utility style tomahawk, instead of those flimsy ones we all hate to get suckered into trying out, do not fear, you could put up a fight against a possessed pile of cinder blocks if you needed to. This will kill zombies, mini golems, rabid coyotes, demon monkeys, or anything that you can think of. I won't suggest fighting off a bear or mountain lion, you'll need a shotgun for cqb with one of them. Also, these are a much better size for fighting hawks, mostly due to the fact the voodoo hawk looks like it should belong to optimus prime (who wants a tact'ed out hawk looking like it's from planet cybertron?". I also would advise learning how to throw hawks. They are still good defense weapons when thrown. If a guy with tiny knife threatens you, you take out this hawk, which is well under three inches in blade length, he'll be scared out of the pantyhose he's using to cover his face. Clearing small brush is nothing but easy with this hawk. I was so into this item I bought 4 of them. My grandfather helped design some of the multi-tools sog makes, or used to make, and still has the one they gave him. This is a multi-tool of tomahawks, so don't be afraid to put it through it's paces. Trust me, you won't be able to break it, and if your still unsure about it, try to, sog will replace it with a brand new one. Every sog tomahawk comes with a lifetime warranty. Also buy some grip tape too, you may find the handle to be slippery when you're all sweaty from working with it for a while. Over all, buy MORE THAN one, you'll love them.

Great little tomahawk to starr out throwing with
SOG Fasthawk. I bought this for my son for his tenth birthday (got one in all stainless too) and could not be happier. He has become very interested in throwing 'hawks and I wanted to encourage this activity as we can do it together. I bought a "classic" style 'hawk as well (a "mouse" hawk) along with this item so he two different styles and could see what he liked. By far, he loves the SOG Fasthawk. The edge came hair shaving sharp and while the spike seemed a little blunt, it sticks very well. For his size and strength, this tomahawk is perfect. The handle length and weight and balance are exactly what he needs. I had looked over the 3 pack of SOG throwing 'hawks, but decided that the Fasthawk seemed more durable. My son has chipped them up a little in the month he has been throwing them, but that is to be expected. The stainless steel head sharpens easily to a keen edge and retains it well. As an adult, I think that it is a great throwing tomahawk and could be used in a pinch as a lightweight camp hatchet. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. Oh, almost forgot, for $17 how can you go wrong. Stock up, throwing 'hawks rake a lot of abuse. So, to recap, this is the perfect starting out tomahawk for a boy ir girl or anyone ad it is lightweight, well balanced, well made, and has a price that can not be beat. The low maintenance of the stainless steel is great for a kid too.

Functions great as a low weight emergency axe
I have owned one of these for about a decade. I have never used it as a throwing axe, but have used it primarily as a camping axe and garage tool. Over the years I have used to dig roots out of the front yard, pull rocks and paving stones out, split small amounts of firewood and other basic tasks. This little axe holds up great, it takes a giant beating and sharpens up quick and easy to go back out again. I have take chips out of it over the years and had to resharpen, but I cant blame the tool as most any other axe would have had the same issue given the abuse it was taking. This axe functions best for small and light tasks as it is very lightweight. If you keep it sharp and available it will handle a good many tasks but due to its light weight and small profile, it will struggle for tasks better suited for a medium to large axe and dull quick, that said its a great and cheap investment for an emergency tool, hatchet replacement for camping, etc.

Fast Hawk - Smaller, Faster and just as nice as the original
I've had the larger SOG Tactical Tomahawk for some time now, and it has become one of my most used woods tools. The larger F01T Tactical Tomahawk is well made, holds a good edge, and holds up to my (almost daily) heavy use very well. I've wanted to use it as an everyday carry with my gear, but it was too heavy to justify. I wanted something just as nice but smaller, lighter and able to be carried easier. The RMJ Kestrel fits this need perfectly, but it costs over $400 so that's hard to justify. The SOG tomahawks are a great value for the price. Enter the SOG F06-N Fast Hawk, a slightly smaller version of the larger one. I was surprised when I opened the package, it was smaller than I had expected. Everything was smaller. The handle is not only shorter, but it is thinner as well. Same with the head, smaller but also thinner. It looks like SOG kept the overall balance by making all dimensions smaller. The overall effect is more than a shorter tactical tomahawk, it is a substantially lighter one too. For those looking for a Tactical Hawk, this allows for very fast strikes. For the rest of us who use a hawk as a tool, it makes for a lighter tool, easier to carry, and less fatigue from a day of heavy use. While the small head and lighter weight don't lend themselves to the heavy duty tree work, that the larger version excels at, it is a good compromise and makes limbing trees a breeze. The faster strike makes up for some of the lost weight, but not all. So far, I like it. I have been clearing scrub, dead falls and other nuisance growth in my woods. I have extensive experience with the larger SOG hawk working in this manner. It is great. Today, I took this new Fast Hawk to see how it does. In a word, great. I wouldn't want to drop a tree over about 6 inches in diameter with it, but it could if needed. For smaller scrub, sumac, and other wild weed like softwoods, it made short work of them. I much prefer this new Fast Hawk for taking the limbs off, short fast strikes shave them right off almost effortlessly. It is small enough and light enough to attach as a piece of my standard gear now. I like it, I like it a lot. The larger one throws very well, so I wondered how this little one would fly. It does that well too. The short length gives it a fast spin, so I had to adjust for that, but once I got used to it, it was sinking and sticking in stumps with a good thud. Yup, it throws just as well as the larger version. I don't know why you'd need to do that, but it is fun once in awhile to pass a few minutes. I'll post some comparison pictures of the two so you can see for yourself. For the price, it's highly recommended. It's light enough to take hiking and leave it on my gear. Even though it is smaller, it is still tough enough for real world use, it'll take it.

10/10
These tomahawks are lightweight, easy to throw and develop consistent throws at multiple distances, and are flawless in tactical design in my opinion. The beard drops low enough that these can be used in close quarters protecting the knuckles and can quickly develop into short to medium range threat. Or vice versa if you carry a pair. They are so lightweight and well profiled they conceal easily about your person. As far as the complaints about the handle I think it’s just bad luck. I have a set of three dedicated to just throwing. I have hit or knicked the handle multiple times grouping shots and it still takes a beating. A cheap file set will help with a quick easy sharpening tool and should be used to flatten and sharpen the rear spike. This axe is almost impossible to drop with a bit of practice. You can cleanly stick the axe and control the angle with good wrist control. Reverse grip throws provide a reliable spike first hit that slam the handle upwards and forwards. If used defensively any shot center mass with a reverse grip is going to lodge in the chest or lungs and deliver a handle strike to the face. This could also easily be used for small game. Even a “missed” throw can still deliver tremendous impact. The complaints about the handle are just bad luck. They are actually my favorite aspect of the weapon. I have intentionally thrown this tomahawk to land in a such a way that the handle literally smacks the target every time. They’re basically bullet proof. 6/5 on quality, design, and consistency in the end user products. Some basic maintenance such as sharpening is an obvious must with any blade. I found that I increased the performance when I sanded down the acute edges on the non cutting surfaces and slightly reprofiling the skull crusher. A good quick sanding on the handle in between use keeps the handle smooth yet still grippy and it releases like butter every time. I don’t know I’ve bought a lot of stuff from Amazon and I basically never leave reviews. These are the real deal in every aspect no matter your intended purpose.

Zombieland Camp Axe
Specs: 2" blade edge...3" depth to handle....spike 5/8" x 1/8" taper, 2-1/4" to handle...handle 12" bottom to top of head, x 1-1/8" x 13/16" oval of black grooved poly and hole in butt for lanyard. Head attached to handle by 4 torqex screws with a re-enforcing ferrule. Impressed checkering on sides of head for non-slip pounding. Finished in black. Sheath is stiff black cordura, hollow rivets with 3 snaps on bottom...1-1/4" belt loop. Go to "sogknives.com" for more specs and a short vid. As much as they want to say, this isn't a camper's axe. The edge is semi-hollow ground, and only 9/16" before the hole in blade, limiting the amount of resharpening. I was able to shave my arm with the factory edge. The edge angle is such that the cutting edge starts cutting at the top first when striking. The spike is an abrupt angle edge. Handle is grooved, but it is still somewhat slick. Tried this axe out on a 55gal drum; pierced the sides easily with only marring the paint, using the spike. The Mrs. performed it easily but complained the handle was a bit slick. She chopped on some red fir firewood, but it was near impossible to split the wood due to light weight. This axe is designed with more towards "Urban Survival" in mind. Cutting through drywall was not a problem. It did take repeated strikes for about 4 minutes to get through a wall stud. Tried the spike on a junk vehicle side window & it shattered it easily. We had a fresh, road killed deer near our place. The spike will easily pierce the skull bone with little effort. The cutting edge will penetrate all the way through hide & meat until stopped by the handle. Long swinging slashes to the ribcage severed the ribs completely. Very little dulling of edge even after repeated strikes into bone. Axe cleaned up quickly with soap & water. Wife likes this tool. Has a good use as a vehicle tool when critters reach in through the window and breaking out windows for escape. Would be useful in cutting a last ditch exit out of a room when other exits would be blocked. Would make a great defensive tool in hands that had a bit of training. The slick handle can be overcome by a nylon cord loop or wrapping the handle with para-cord. The sheath has a lot to be desired for belt carry, but the hollow rivets allow for lashing to a bailout bag. Can be attached under the dash by screws through the hollow rivets. Great cutting tool for the price, but a poor choice for a small camping axe. Get a Estwing axe for that. Only main complaint I have is that it is "Made in China". Gave it a 5 Star due to the intended design of personal defense/escape tool.

Terrific Tactical Tomahawk.
I am a Cold Steel fan, and really admire their quality. I also like the American Hickory handles. BUT, this tactical tomahawk is well built too !!! It throws well, and can be very, very sharp. I do have some training with different weapons, and this little baby is no slouch in that department. It's real use comes from the fact that it is almost designed to run along the Molle webbing of my Maxpedition Sitka. It comfortably sits there and won't go anywhere despite a rigorous hike. One small velcro tie, and this won't slip out accidentally - no way and no how. But the velcro strip is easily removed, and this Tomahawk deploys nicely. On dried wood, from the middle of the summer, this will service nicely. It is smaller and will require a bit more effort to get rid of a downed tree, but from a survival perspective - just perfect. I have not "pressure tested" the handle, but suspect it can withstand a brutish amount of force. It won't come a part on you. I bought mine on a bit of sale, and it was well worth the price. Put this on your wish list, and strike when that iron is hot !!!

thinking the back would make a good glass breaker
I first bought the SOG hatchet to put in my car in case of emergencies, thinking the back would make a good glass breaker. After that, it sat in there for over a year before finally seeing any action. The hatchet head is embedded with two screws into a poly handle, keeping the thing light weight, with the weight centered just below the head. The blade is a shallow grind, but extremely sharp. We used it to chop through the roots of a tree stump we were removing from a friend's yard. The axe was small but sharp enough for us to deftly cut through the exposed roots, letting us pull the stump out more easily. The axe comes with a head cover that buttons closed to prevent it from slipping off. Apart from that, it would be good for splitting wood (using a wood baton to hit the flare just under the head) - I'm sure it can handle some light batoning, and save the blade and finish on my esee and becker blades. If you are looking for tacticool with a side of utility, go ahead and get this. no wood, black phosphate finish on this steel means you'll be set for years to come. My only concern is if the screws will begin coming loose, however they're still solidly in place after chopping through tree roots... so here's hoping they'll last a few more years.

Eigentlich ganz gut

Great hiking axe
Took it out of the box and put it to use on a multi day hike. Typically I take a bow saw and larger knife to process my wood, but wanted to try a hatchet + camp knife instead. It worked extremely well once I realized swinging harder didn't get much added value. Let the axe do its work for you. Great lightweight solution. After the work was done and a nice fire was keeping the group warm, it was also the entertainment for a while as we all took turns throwing it. Three days of this kind of use and it was still in great shape... still sharp enough. I always like to customize a bit so I've recently put a convex grind on it and am ready to test it out now. Overall, very happy with this purchase. [August 2023] So the convex works great on wood processing but might be a bit less sticky when throwing. Or it was me! I did use it chop up some roots with stones and it got pretty beat up. That being said, that 420 sharpened quickly including some serious dents, rolls and chips. Not sure if that's good or bad for you? Still like this little guy a lot!

Another quality product from SOG + update Jan 26, 2016
A very handy tool for you prepper's. Blade is set sturdily, and came in just a few days. I have some other gear from SOG, my multi-tool has lasted 20 years and still can hold a good edge. If I had a complaint (which I do not!), given my height, I could use another hands-length in the handle. The 'pike' should have been 'square' as opposed to the single layer. But if you are a ice-climber, this will work great on that! Update. I have beaten on this for a few months now. I recant my statement on the 'pike', it works just fine, it does NOT bend! It DOES throw very well with practice. Even though I have chopped wood, it did not require a lot of sharpening effort. I've pried some items, it remains just as solid as when first purchased. So I picked up a metal 'hook' for utility belt for it (no I am not Batman), I use it in both my theaters of 'camping and recreation' and for my job.... it goes with me now every day day....
