What is a good fabric for this?

It sort of depends on where you live. If you live in a cold climate, wool is really nice for this, the view with basically an A-line skirt no gores (insets). You can use a nice plaid, keeping the nap in mind and it turns out cute. I did this a while ago for a teen. However, if you live in a warm climate, I would suggest a poly-cotton with some weight to it. This is really hard to find these days. Everything is either all cotton or jersey of some type. Jersey would work for the view with the gores in it, but might be a bit harder to sew. Jersey doesn't work for the simple A-line skirt...it would be too droopy. It needs a fabric with some firmest to it.
