In 2009, Sterno replaced the use of methanol as a denaturant with non-toxic Bitrex as part of an ongoing environmental sustainability initiative. Sterno ethanol gel products are certified by the Green Restaurant Association; validated by UL for residential use; and are certified by the US Department of Agriculture as a bio-based product. With regard to roasting skewered food items (including marshmallows) directly over the flame, this is a perfectly safe practice as the fuel emits no harmful emissions.

These are to be used to warm food in chaffing dishes not for a large tea light warmer These do not burn like a candle It burns like an open flame
